The paper describes the control of traction drive and control systems properties of a special rail vehicle WŽB10.1-M used in the Prague metro (subway).  Measured values of main quantities of the control system and experience from duty are included. Software for the traction drive control system was developed at the University of Pardubice.

The paper presents modification of drive and control system for specially developed small size multipurpose mobile platform which has been built based on existing vehicle undercarriage. For such redesigned object new concept of hydrostatic drive and control system is proposed. The control system consists of selected hydraulic components and controllers which were chosen from Sauer-Danfoss PLUS+1 package which is the system dedicated for mobile hydraulic control systems application. The hydraulic system has been equipped with extra valves, enabling to obtain of assumed functions.

De Ruyter from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands has been studying nervous system of blowflies. These insects have extremely sophisticated visual and tactile perception that is much more sophisticated than our own. De Ruyter placed a tiny tungsten probe into the fly’s head, near one of its motion-sensitive neurons to understand motion control system. With the necessary second probe that acts as a ground (and allows for a current), a nearby oscilloscope feeds the air with an audible indication of voltage. When de Ruyter runs his hand across the fly’s field of vision, the oscilloscope’s output becomes loud and continuous, like old radio static. Davidowitz illustrated how sophisticated these sensory systems are and, therefore, why they would be studied in order to model sense and control systems. Roaches run—when they can—along a wall, with one antenna touching that wall for positioning information. This system checks, feeds information, and makes the control corrections for positioning 25 times a second.

In order to reduce the costs of implementing the radial position control system of a three-phase bearingless machine with split winding, this article proposes a driving method that uses only two phases of the system instead of the three-phase traditional one. It reduces from six to four the number of inverter legs, drivers, sensors, and current controllers necessary to drive and control the system. To justify the proposal, this new power and control configuration was applied to a 250 W machine controlled by a digital signal processor (DSP). The results obtained demonstrated that it is possible to carry out the radial position control through two phases, without loss of performance in relation to the conventional three-phase drive and control system.

The article describes the microprocessor system for various digital signal processing algorithms testing. The development of electric drive control systems is carried out with the usage of modeling systems such as, MATLAB/Simulink. Modern digital control systems are based on specialized digital signal microcontrollers. The present market offers evaluation boards, for example STM32F4DISCOVERY, which enables to connect a microcontroller to a personal computer. It makes possible to use the microcontroller as a part of the mathematical model of the control system. However, the designing of the control system simulation model and the program for the microprocessor is carried out in different programming environments. Thus, the software and hardware solution for testing programs for the microprocessor, which is a part of the control system, is relevant. This article deals with the designing of the modeling method in which the prototype program for the microprocessor is debugged as a part of the electric drive control system simulation model.
