Corporate Governance is a mechanism that seeks to strengthen the control bodies and their efforts, by combining principles and techniques to invigorate the value of companies and generate confidence in investors and all Stakeholders. This research seeks to analyze the impact of corporate governance on the values of companies that belong to the Latin American Integrated Market (MILA). The financial statements of the 97 companies from the years 2012 to 2018 were analyzed using a statistical panel data model to establish the relationship between the corporate governance variables and the financial performance variables. Lastly, it is concluded that non-economic mechanisms such as the implementation of adequate control policies positively influence the value of companies and generate support for investors.

<p>Maternal mortality (MMR) is the second largest cause of female deaths in Ghana. Yet, many households cannot afford the cost of skilled delivery The study utilized the Panel Data Model to examine the impact of the fee-free delivery (FDP) and the National Health Insurance Policy (NIP) exemptions on MMR in Ghana. The Demographic and Health Survey reports on Ghana from 2002 to 2009 served as the main data source. Data were analyzed using Panel data model with within group fixed effects estimator. MMR declined significantly over the period studied. Both FDP and NIP positively impacted MMR at a 5% level of significance. In addition, skilled delivery was a significant predictor of MMR. Stakeholders would do well to ensure NIP is adequately funded in order to sustain the decline in MMR.</p><p> </p><p><strong><br /></strong></p>

Development of infrastructure industries is essential to enhance the growth of a developing country. The present chapter attempts to examine the impact of infrastructure on Gross Domestic Product and Per Capita Gross Domestic Product of six SAARC countries from the period 1990-91 to 2013-14. The model is mis-specified whenever we have used the restricted panel data model. We have derived the results by employing the unrestricted panel data model. Impact of road, internet users and total electricity production on the level of GDP as well as on the level of PCGDP is highest for India among the all SAARC countries. India has also the highest rate of growth of GDP over the entire period. Rate of growth of PCGDP is highest for Sri Lanka followed by India.

<p>We investigate the impact of R&amp;D narrative disclosure on the market value of equity for a sample of French companies during the period 2000–2004. Using 3SLS estimation on a panel data of 98 French firms, we find, ceteris paribus, positive (but insignificant) association between R&amp;D voluntary disclosure and the market value of equity. Both R&amp;D intensity and R&amp;D capitalization lead French firms to disclose more R&amp;D narrative information. However, they impact differently the relationship between R&amp;D-related disclosure and market value. Indeed, a positive and significant association is found when we control for R&amp;D capitalization. In contrast, when controlling for R&amp;D intensity, we find a negative association. We also find that equity-based compensation and audit committee independence are the most important drivers for R&amp;D narrative disclosure. </p>

Over 30 years of research on the relationship between corporate social performance (CSP) and financial performance (FP) has yielded no conclusive results. Researchers have tried to legitimize (or discredit) social performance on the basis of its surmised impact on corporate profitability. However, the empirical evidence on the topic has been as divisive as the theoretical propositioning. By reviewing the theory and evidence on the topic, this article puts forth four intertwined propositions that could be confounding these results: failure to consider the impact of corporate governance, lumping together all sorts of expenditures under the rubric of social performance, failure to consider the stakeholder relationships, and above all, not accounting for the past reputation and stakeholder influence capacity of the firm. In particular, we contend that it is the employment relations that run like a common thread among these factors and hold the key to the dynamics of CSP-FP link.

In international expansion, staff localization helps Chinese commercial banks to provide services to meet local needs. This paper explores the mediation effect of staff localization and refines the measurement of bank’s overseas performance, to reveal the transmit channel of how the degree of internationalization (DOI) affects bank’s overseas performance. With data from 2009 to 2015 of China’s top five banks as the sample to build a panel data model, the result suggests that staff localization fully mediates the relationship between DOI and bank’s overseas performance, and DOI exercises positive effect on the overseas performance of intermediary business, but no significant effect on the overseas performance of deposit/loan business. Implications and suggestions for bank’s overseas practice are discussed.

The impact of context has little or no consideration in the mainstream corporate governance literature. The purpose of this paper is to consider social, economic, and political elements of the emerging Saudi Arabian market when developing a multi-theoretical model about the relationship between board composition and financial performance.<strong> </strong>The paper attempts to conceptually inform the conversation about context with regard to board composition and firm financial performance in emerging markets. In particular, it discusses these theoretical feedback loops in conjunction with a proposed research agenda for the field.<strong> </strong>The paper proposes shifting the focus of corporate governance in emerging markets from relying on the predominant Western corporate governance theories to the alignment of those theories with considerations on emerging markets context. Such an approach involves significant implications for corporate governance theories and management practices. The paper describes the conditions in which certain formation of board of directors is composed in the Saudi Arabia may generate a competitive advantage. The consideration of emerging markets context can have implications for society as it may influence firms and governments to improve corporate governance standards and practices<strong> </strong>A literature gap in the corporate governance literature identified in this paper holds theoretical and practical implications. This research will enable comparative studies with other emerging markets, and will provide a conceptual benchmark for future corporate governance research.
