Barriers To Change: A Case Study Investigation On Factors Hindering Organizational Transformation

Regardless the size, organizations need to transform themselves to meet the demand of current competition era. Nevertheless, many organizations were failed to implement change despite having a clear organizational strategy. The aim of this research is to investigate factors hindering organizational transformation and change. To achieve such aim, a qualitative case-study investigation was conducted in a State-owned Enterprise located in Greater Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia, involving 10 participants which consists of top manager, middle managers, line managers and the workers.The findings of this study reveals that transformation effort in the company were hindered due to several factors: commitment and initiatives issues, change management issues, language issues, communication issues, and time constraint issues. Implication for theory and managerial practice were also discussed.

AbstrakTujuan Penelitian ini adalah mencari model penanggulangan kemiskinan berbasis komunitas yang berdasar dari potensi dan permasalahan yang di miliki oleh desa.Metode penelitian  ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus yaitu meneliti suatu kasus atau fenomena tertentu yang ada dalam masyarakat yang dilakukan secara mendalam untuk mempelajari latar belakang, keadaan, dan interaksi yang terjadi . Pada penelitian ini di lakukan di Desa Plantaran Kecamatan Kaliwungu Selatan Kabupaten  Kendal Provinsi, Jawa Tengah. Dengan informan 2 orang dari masyarakat, 2 orang perangkat desa dan 2 orang fasilitaor PNPM Mandiri Perkotaan yang mendampingi desa plantaran Hasil penelitian di peroleh model penanggulangan kemiskinan berbasis komunitas yang berdasar dari potensi dan permasalahan yaitu dengan mengacu pada empat bidang yaitu 1)ekologi, 2.Rekreasi, 3) Edukasi, 4)Ekonomi melalui lembaga keswadayaan masyarakat yang struktur organisasinya menggunakan sistem pada Universitas yaitu Universitas Kehidupan Dewa Dewi PlantaranKesimpulan dari penelitian ini mengacu pada kegiatan yang di lakukan untuk mencapai visi dan misi dari universitas Kehidupan Dewa Dewi Plantaran  itu sendiri yaitu mengacu pada empat bidang yaitu 1)ekologi, 2.Rekreasi, 3) Edukasi, 4)Ekonomi melalui lembaga keswadayaan masyarakat yang struktur organisasinya menggunakan sistem pada Universitas  Kata Kunci:Universitas Kehidupan, Dewa Dewi Plantaran,Penanggulangan  Kemiskinan, Komunitas Abstract The purpose of this study is to find a community-based poverty reduction model based on the potential and problems that the village has. This research method uses a qualitative case study approach that is examining a particular case or phenomenon that exists in society that is carried out in depth to study the background, circumstances, and interactions that occur. This research was conducted in Plantaran Village, South Kaliwungu Subdistrict, Kendal Regency, Central Java. With informants 2 people from the community, 2 village officials and 2 PNPM Mandiri Urban facilitators who accompanied the plantaran village The results of the study were obtained by community-based poverty reduction models based on potential and problems, namely by referring to four fields, namely 1) ecology, 2. Recreation, 3) Education, 4) Economy through community self-reliance institutions whose organizational structure uses systems at universities namely Universities Life of Goddess Plantaran The conclusion of this study refers to the activities carried out to achieve the vision and mission of the university of the Life of the Goddess Dewi Plantaran itself which refers to four fields namely 1) ecology, 2. PurposeThis paper adopts a sensemaking lens to explore the process of entrepreneurship-driven organizational transformation for sustainability.Design/methodology/approachAnalysis is based on an in-depth case study of a large European meat company. Sensemaking by top and middle managers is analyzed over the period of 18 months.FindingsThe findings show how, over time, bidirectional sensemaking, that is, sensemaking for and of sustainability-oriented entrepreneurship, directed and accelerated organizational transformation for sustainability. The case company transformed with regard to organizational strategy, structure, operations and identity. The process revealed temporally different involvement of top and middle managers in sensemaking.Originality/valueThis paper offers unique insights into fast and emergent sustainability-oriented change in an established organization within a highly topical context. The results highlight how continuous and increasingly shared sensemaking can help top and middle managers navigate organizational change for sustainability in dynamic environments over time.

This paper is intended to highlight the importance of management and administrative ethics in the inception and sustainability of a profound construction company in the Arab world. Osman Ahmed Osman & Co™ was established in 1947 as a local construction company. The company has gone through 4 pertinent change management phases that shaped and demonstrated its sustainability. It currently exists in 29 countries covering 4 continents with approximately 75 thousand employees (Arab Contractors, 2014). This study hypothesized that management and administrative ethics would lead to success, sustainability, and continuous growth.The research methodology used in this study was a mixed methods approach. A qualitative case study and quantitative survey analyzed the effect of management and administrative ethics on success and sustainability. The findings of this study have been limited to present the continuous growth of the company due to the consistency in applying management and administrative ethics. The study concluded by proposing applying management and administrative ethics to assure the growth and sustainability of any regional or global company.

This research discusses the Duties and Authorities of the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) particularly in budgeting function, the obstacles, and efforts to overcome these problems. This paper uses a qualitative case study. Data were derived from interviews and literature study. The results showed that the DPRD Central Java has an important role in budgeting. The obstacles arising are related to limited funds, adjusting time, schedule, and different activities between DPRD members, and other aspect like communication. The efforts made to overcome these obstacles include increasing funds, adjusting time and activity, as well as encouragement from the Deliberative Council, therefore all DPRD members attend at the APBD discussion with the executive.

Promoting moderate Islam in the education sector to prevent radicalism and violent extremism, particularly in Indonesia’s Islamic universities has been considered important. This study demonstrated how values of moderate Islam empower student to prevent radicalism and violent extremism in university. This research is qualitative case study. Eight students and two teachers at a public Islamic university in Central Java, Indonesia were recruited to participate. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observation. The result of the study shows that the values of tolerance, inclusivity, flexibility, and objectivity in understanding religious texts were internalized to empower students as agents of religious moderation. The presentation of learning materials were adopted from national journals, reputable international journals, websites, and official social media platforms for moderate Muslim intellectuals. The materials contributed significantly to the prevention of hate speech and hoaxes.
