Demaan Sub-district, Jepara Regency as the coastal area directly have an impact of climate change such as a tidal flood. This condition makes the community doing adaptation toward to their environment. The research objective is identifying of climate change toward to the settlement in Demaan coastal area. The research approach used mix method of concurrent by combining data of quantitative and qualitative. A quantitative method used to find out the respondents characteristic from the questionnaire result by descriptive statistical analysis. A qualitative method used to explain the problem and study findings of climate change impact and adaptation conducted by the community. The climate change impact in Demaan coastal area which increased in temperature, tide timetable, tidal flood, brine, sedimentation, dryness, and strong wind. The community conducted adaptation by upgrading on floor, wall, and rooftop. Upgrading of infrastructures by rising of road dimension, improving drainage system, developing public sanitation, and improving waste disposal manage by a provision of landfill close to Apung Market. The Government recommendation should develop related regulation and monitoring of the settlement development in the vulnerable areas of disasters.</span>

The issue of climate change is one of the global challenges and great concerns to humanity. Although Nepal has a negligible share in the global emissions of greenhouse gases, it is more vulnerable to climate change impact due to its fragile mountain ecosystems. A study was carried out to assess people’s understanding on climate change, identify its impacts on their communities and document how they are coping with those impacts. Descriptive and explorative research designs with purposive sampling method were used to collect data from the field. The study showed that more than 50% respondents were familiar with the concepts of climate change and remaining had no idea. Those who were familiar with climate change got knowledge about it from mass media. The result of this study showed that the climate change has several impacts on the study area such as decrease in agricultural production, loss in biodiversity, decrease in water resources and increase in health hazards. During field survey, people suggested that the Government of Nepal must have effective plan, policy and program for holistic approach and develop low cost technology for adaptation to climate change impact and improve livelihood.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ije.v4i1.12185International Journal of Environment Volume-4, Issue-1, Dec-Feb 2014/15, page: 141-160

Abstract Urban areas are becoming increasingly vulnerable to extreme storms and flash floods, which could be more damaging under climate change. This study presented an integrated framework for assessing climate change impact on extreme rainfall and urban drainage systems by incorporating a number of statistical and modelling techniques. Starting from synthetic future climate data generated by the stochastic weather generator, the simple scaling method and the Huff rainfall design were adopted for rainfall disaggregation and rainfall design. After having obtained 3-min level designed rainfall information, the urban hydrological model (i.e., Storm Water Management Model) was used to carry out the runoff analysis. A case study in a tropical city was used to demonstrate the proposed framework. Particularly, the impact of selecting different general circulation models and Huff distributions on future 1-h extreme rainfall and the performance of the urban drainage system were investigated. It was revealed that the proposed framework is flexible and easy to implement in generating temporally high-resolution rainfall data under climate model projections and offers a parsimonious way of assessing urban flood risks considering the uncertainty arising from climate change model projections, downscaling and rainfall design.

Nagan Raya is one of regencies in Aceh Province that has peat ecosystem region, concerning the protection of peat ecosystem as regulated in Article 33 of the Government Regulation Number 71, 2014 regarding Ecosystem Management and Protection of peat states that an effort of taking care peat ecosystem as worded in Article 17 ( 1 ) point b is done through the reservation of peat ecosystem and conservation function as controller of climate change impact. The District Government of Nagan Raya has determined that the protection function of peat ecosystem  and sustainability function into Article 27 ( 2 ) Nagan Raya District Local Law (Qanun) Number 11, 2015 regarding spatial planning and Nagan Raya District Area of peat ecosystem as meant by versus ( 1 ) with its width 11.380,71 ha located in Kecamatan Darul Makmur is widespread in Babah Lueng Village, Kuala Seumayam, Pulo Kruet and Sumber Bakti. In practice, the peat areas in Babah Lueng Village, Kuala Seumayam, Pulo Kruet and Sumber Bakti has been converted by palm plantation and people amongst the plantation area hence the function of the area has been transformed. The research shows that an effort of conserving and reserving the peat ecosystem in Nagan Raya District has not been optimal hence its exploitation is still taking place at the ecosystem and its protection function.
