The objective of this study is to understand UAE consumer behavior towards organic food. Six determinants were chosen to investigate the factors that were identified as potential influencers. These determinants were identified from the current research published on organic food buying behavior patterns. The chosen independent determinants are identified as: health and lifestyle, environmental concern, safety and trust, convenience and price, subjective norms and attitude. Purchase intention was identified as a dependent variable to test. Six hypotheses were formed based on determinants to test their influences on purchase intention. A random sampling of 423 participants was used in collecting the data. Multiple regression analysis tests were used to understand the significant influence of these six variables. The result of the analysis indicated that all six variables have a positive contribution towards consumer purchase intention of organic food. The implications for stakeholders and policy makers point to a need to upgrade the accessibility of organic food to a wider population such that the supply chain for organic foods and organic products extends beyond the big supermarkets to the smaller grocery stores and corner shops.

On behalf of the editorial team, with immense pleasure, I present this issue of USHUS – Journal of Business Management (UJBM). This issue comprises of contemporary articles which are very pertinent in the changing business environment.  Given the controversies that surfaced in the year 2015 on the Indian food industry on the whole, especially noodles, the article on "Are we nodding for Noodles? - An empirical evidence among the Bengaluru youth" addresses certain critical facts that can be useful to the manufacturers in mapping the buying behaviour of the consumers. The authors have explored the consumers' acceptance level of the Ready-to-cook and packaged food. Interestingly, the study finds that despite the allegations, popular brands such as Maggi, Yippee, etc. still perform well, and they do have the potential to capture larger market share.  The article on "Marketing of Organic Food Products at Madurai City" investigates the increasing demand for organic food products. This article throws light on how the retailers can design their marketing strategies to attract people to buy organics food products and thereby increase the cultivation of the same. With increasing urbanisation and rise in health consciousness among the people, this article indicates that the demand for organic food products is only going to see an upswing. As the countries are preparing to embrace a paperless economy, the article titled "Futuristic perspective of online buyers for sustainability of E-Commerce" explores the ways and means of sustaining E-Commerce business. The study traces the growth of ECommerce business in India. It primarily focuses on the different perspectives of the online buyers. Changes in lifestyle patterns and the ubiquitous presence of sophisticated technology has led to the emergence of a new breed of citizens who are extremely tech savvy. "Changing Access Patterns of Tech Savvy Citizens" sheds light on the different ways in which digital technology consumers use modern technology.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the determinants of organic food buying behaviour in an emerging economy like India, where organic food yet has low market share in spite of its potential. Using the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) as the underlying basis, it attempts to explain the effect of attitude, subjective norms and the perceived behaviour control (PBC) on buying intention towards organic food among respondents in Delhi-National capital region, India. Additionally, it attempts to discriminate functional and constructive attitudes. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative questionnaire survey approach was used on 306 respondents and multiple linear regression was used to validate the research model. Findings Attitudes and PBC have a significant positive impact on the intention to purchase organic food. This paper found subjective norms to be weak and barely significant to intention. The results conclude that health motives, past purchase behaviour, knowledge, affordability and trust in organic certification label are the main facilitators in organic food purchase. Primarily, the respondents see buying organic food regularly as being of value and enjoyable to them. A more favourable appearance vs conventional food was negatively related to behavioural intention. Originality/value This research could aid all stakeholders in the organic food sector, particularly emerging economies like India where the organic market is still nascent. It could be an essential driver to improve customer involvement and thus aid them in the decision-making process to choose organic food over conventional food. It also attempts to establish the usability of TPB in assessing functional attitudes based on constructive attitudes for organic food purchase.

Research findings on buying behaviour towards organic food product are still inconsistent. Therefore, this study aims to examine a significant relationship between environmental consciousness, health consciousness and social influence and young consumers’ purchase intention towards organic food product. The total of 150 questionnaires was designed and distributed at the public area of Kerteh, Terengganu. In return only 140 questionnaires were returned and usable. The result of the analysis showed that environmental consciousness is the most significant factor to influence young consumer purchase intention towards organic food product. Health consciousness and social influence on the other hand, showed a result as have no significant relationship in determined a factor that influencing young consumer purchased intention towards organic food product. In these relations, marketer and future researchers should see the important factor to explore the opportunities to cater for this market segment in future.

Globally, the organic food market is the most successful green market. Young consumers, the decision-makers of the future, are perceived as being more environmentally concerned than older cohorts. The aim of this study was to consider young consumers’ attitudes and behaviours concerning organic food, where the organic food market in the UK is more mature than in Poland. Empirical research was conducted using a web-based survey questionnaire (CAWI) with consumers (n = 973) in both countries. The associations between four constructs (general pro-social attitudes, green consumption values, receptivity to green communication, and buying behaviour) were considered using CB-SEM. We extended the model with two new constructs to explain young consumers’ purchases of organic food. UK respondents are significantly more conscious green consumers with higher environmental attitude intensity than Polish residents. Intensity of pro-environmental attitude components influences directly and indirectly the choice of organic food. People with a higher intensity of pro-environmental attitudes are significantly more likely to choose organic food. Perception of organic food influences purchases only in Poland. The components of pro-environmental attitudes and perception of organic food alone do not explain the variability in behaviour, despite a good fit of the model. This suggests that other independent variables may be of influence.


The organic foods are perceived as more nutritious, healthy, and nature-friendly than conventional food. Consumers, therefore, are switching over to organic food products and are willing to pay a premium price. Findings of my study reveal more women were open to buying organic food products than men – the percentage was 77 per cent for women and 23 per cent for men. Buying in organic stores located in and around Coimbatore. However, the consumers have concerns on organic produce, primarily the certification and authenticity of organic food products has to be improved. They lack awareness towards originality and certification process involved in Organic food products. Also, this market is huge and untapped. So, there are innumerable benefits for all the stakeholders; however, a few challenges.This study provides a better understanding of consumers' attitude, purchase intention and actual buying behaviour towards organic food products. For this purpose, a survey data were collected from 773 Coimbatore consumers through structured questionnaire. Statistical tools adopted to execute the results. And necessary findings provided with data interpretations.

PurposeThe paper aims to investigate existing research in factors impacting organic food purchase with special reference to eco-labels and identify the relative influence of various determinants.Design/methodology/approachA conceptual framework is proposed of organic food buying behaviour after analysing a sample of 154,072 consumers reported in 91 research studies from 2001–2020. The factors are categorised into four categories on the basis of relatedness. In addition, the factors were analysed based on time, region and national economic status.FindingsThe impact of consumer psychographics, socio-demographic and product-related factor categories were found to be more pronounced compared to supply-related factor category. The results show that among individual factors like health concern, environment concern, knowledge and awareness, eco-labels and price followed by trust in organic food are the most important factors in organic food purchase. The findings suggest that eco-labels increase trust in organic food by reducing information asymmetry in consumers. However, there were differences in perception and factors importance between high-income economies and emerging economies.Originality/valueThe study is unique, as it analyses secondary research based on criteria of high-income economies and emerging economies. The conceptual framework can also be incorporated further into different cognitive models like the theory of planned behaviour.
