AbstractWe study the stability of a time-aware version of the popular Massey method, previously introduced by Franceschet, M., E. Bozzo, and P. Vidoni. 2017. “The Temporalized Massey’s Method.” Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports 13: 37–48, for rating teams in sport competitions. To this end, we embed the temporal Massey method in the theory of time-varying averaging algorithms, which are dynamic systems mainly used in control theory for multi-agent coordination. We also introduce a parametric family of Massey-type methods and show that the original and time-aware Massey versions are, in some sense, particular instances of it. Finally, we discuss the key features of this general family of rating procedures, focusing on inferential and predictive issues and on sensitivity to upsets and modifications of the schedule.

This paper considers a consensus control of a general linear multi-agent system with time-varying communication delays. Since each agent can only use the relative output information from its neighbors, a reduced-order observer-based control protocol is proposed to guarantee consensus on the directed communication network. The stability of the closed-loop system is analyzed for the cases with uniform delays and nonuniform time-varying delays, respectively. Moreover, the upper bounds of the communication delays are obtained respectively for the two cases. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed theoretical results.

This paper formulates sufficiency-type global stability and asymptotic stability results for, in general, nonlinear time-varying dynamic systems with state-trajectory solution-dependent parameterizations. The stability proofs are based on obtaining sufficiency-type conditions which guarantee that either the norms of the solution trajectory or alternative interval-type integrals of the matrix of dynamics of the higher-order than linear terms do not grow faster than their available supremum on the preceding time intervals. Some extensions are also given based on the use of a truncated Taylor series expansion of chosen truncation order with multiargument integral remainder for the dynamics of the differential system.

The stability property for a class of dynamic systems with uncertain parameter variation is studied. The uncertainty can be fast time-varying and unpredictable. A new approach for stability study is proposed. The only required information on the uncertain variation is its possible bound as well as structure. That is, no a priori knowledge on the realization of the variation is needed.

In order to enhance the convergence capability of the central force optimization (CFO) algorithm, an adaptive central force optimization (ACFO) algorithm is presented by introducing an adaptive weight and defining an adaptive gravitational constant. The adaptive weight and gravitational constant are selected based on the stability theory of discrete time-varying dynamic systems. The convergence capability of ACFO algorithm is compared with the other improved CFO algorithm and evolutionary-based algorithm using 23 unimodal and multimodal benchmark functions. Experiments results show that ACFO substantially enhances the performance of CFO in terms of global optimality and solution accuracy.

This paper is devoted to the investigation of nonnegative solutions and the stability and asymptotic properties of the solutions of fractional differential dynamic linear time-varying systems involving delayed dynamics with delays. The dynamic systems are described based onq-calculus and Caputo fractional derivatives on any order.

This paper investigates the stability properties of a class of dynamic linear systems possessing several linear time-invariant parameterizations (or configurations) which conform a linear time-varying polytopic dynamic system with a finite number of time-varying time-differentiable point delays. The parameterizations may be timevarying and with bounded discontinuities and they can be subject to mixed regular plus impulsive controls within a sequence of time instants of zero measure. The polytopic parameterization for the dynamics associated with each delay is specific, so that(q+1)polytopic parameterizations are considered for a system withqdelays being also subject to delay-free dynamics. The considered general dynamic system includes, as particular cases, a wide class of switched linear systems whose individual parameterizations are timeinvariant which are governed by a switching rule. However, the dynamic system under consideration is viewed as much more general since it is time-varying with timevarying delays and the bounded discontinuous changes of active parameterizations are generated by impulsive controls in the dynamics and, at the same time, there is not a prescribed set of candidate potential parameterizations.

AbstractThis paper studies the group consensus problem for second-order multi-agent dynamic systems with time-varying delays, where the agents in a network may reach one more consistent values asymptotically. The fixed network topology is in case of being directed and weakly connected. Based on algebraic graph theory and Lyapunov function approach, we propose some sufficient conditions for reaching group consensus. All the results are presented in the form of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). A simulation example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis.
