Abstract Absorption The absorption and fluorescence spectra of five substituted derivatives of 10-phenyl-9-acetoxy-anthracene were measured and the oscillator strengths of the 1A→1La1A→1Bb and 1A→1Cb electronic vibration bands were determined. Comparison of the absorption spectra of these compounds to the unsubstituted molecule (anthracene) indicate the presence of bathochromic and steric effects. The fluorescence quantum yield and the mean lifetime of the fluorescence were also measured.

AbstractThe effect of n-heptane and n-butanol mixtures upon the absorption and fluorescence spectra of donor-acceptor-substituted trans-stilbenes is investigated. The electronic-vibration spectra of these compounds depend upon the magnitude of the electric dipole moments in the ground and excited states, upon the relation between the mean lifetime τfw and the time of dielectric relaxation τR, and upon the environment around the solute molecule.

A new pyrene derivative bearing a modifiable silyl function (electron-donating group) and cyano function (electron-withdrawing group) was synthesized as a labelling agent for biological substances. The modified pyrene exhibited a marked bathochromic shift in both absorption and fluorescence spectra. The fluorescence quantum yield of the modified pyrene was also significantly increased compared with that of the unmodified pyrene. The modified pyrene was successfully incorporated into oligoDNA.

Absorption and fluorescence spectra in the range from 350 to 1750 nm of several Tm3+- doped optical performs (rods) for optical fiber drawing were measured. Silica-based matrices of Al2O3-GeO2-P2O5-Sb2O3-SiO2 composition doped with several thousands ppm of Tm3+ were characterized. The preforms were fabricated by the Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition and by the solution doping methods. A new method, Genetic Algorithm SPEctra Decomposition was adopted for processing of the measured absorption spectra. This decomposition made it possible to calculate the oscillator strengths of Tm3+ absorption levels. Fluorescence bands of Tm3+ at 800 nm or 1640 nm were found in fluorescence spectra measured on the preform samples when excited at 1064 nm only.

A series of fluorescence compounds, 4-benzofuranyl-1,8-naphthalimides, were prepared through cycloaddition reaction from 4-ethynyl-1,8-naphthalimides and o-iodophenols which catalyzed by a Pd(PPh3)2Cl2 / CuI system under mild conditions. The intermediate material, 4-ethynyl-1,8- naphthalimide, was synthesized from 4-bromo-1,8- naphthalimide and trimethylsilyl- acetylene. The absorption and fluorescence spectra of 4-benzofuranyl-1,8- naphthalimides were studied and the quantum yields were measured. The maximum UV/vis absorption spectra were in the range of 375-400 nm and the maximum emission spectra were in the range of 470-510 nm. The electro- luminescent properties were also mensurated through a doped electroluminescent device which contains 1% 1,8-naphthalimides and 99% CBP (4,4'-N,N'-dicarbazole-biphenyl), It’s shown the maximum brightness reached 3700 cd/ m2 at 22.5V.

A novel phthalocyanine-like photosensitizer, oxophosphorus(V) tetrasulfotriaza-tetrabenzcorrole ( POTBCS 4), has been synthesized. Its structure and absorption spectrum are unique. POTBCS 4 has an axial P = O group and peripheral sulfo groups. The fluorescence emission spectra, fluorescence quantum yield and quantum yield of singlet oxygen generation have been studied. The uptake and the photodynamic activities against HeLa cells were measured. The results indicated that POTBCS 4 was a potential photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT).

One Bis-Boc-L-alanine-1,8-naphthyridine ligand containing amino acid by amido bond named 2,7-Bis-Boc-L-alanine-1,8-naphthyridine (L1) was synthesized and characterized. And there absorption and fluorescence spectra in methanol is presented. It exhibits electronic absorption spectra with λmax at about 340 nm, which can be tentatively assigned to π→π* transition. The emission spectra of L1 in CH3OH shows a mirror symmetry peak with λmax at about 375 nm. Then, the comprehensive study of spectroscopic properties upon titration of L1 with heavy metal ions as ion source in CH3OH was investigated.

The steady-state spectra of autofluorescence and the reflection coefficient on the excitation wavelength of some stomach tissues in vivo with various pathological conditions (surface gastritis, displasia, cancer) are measured under excitation by the nitrogen laser irradiation (λ ex =337.1 nm ). The contour expansion of obtained fluorescence spectra into contributions of components is conducted by the Gaussian–Lorentzian curves method. It is shown that at least 7 groups of fluorophores forming a total luminescence spectrum can be distinguished during the development of displasia and tumor processes. The correlation of intensities of flavins and NAD(P)·H fluorescence is determined and the degree of respiratory activity of cells for the functional condition considered is estimated. The evaluations of the fluorescence quantum yield of the tissue's researched are given.
