Abstract A new cadmium(II)-based coordination polymer [Cd3(FcCOO)6(4,4′-bipy)(H2O)2] n (FcCOO = ferrocenecarboxylato and 4,4′-bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results of a crystal structural analysis has revealed that the title compound consists of two crystallographically unique CdII centers, one in a general position with a five-coordinated and one on an inversion center with a six-coordinated environment. The CdII centers are connected by FcCOO− units to form a metal carboxylate oxygen chain extending parallel to the [100] direction while the 4,4′-bipy ligands further act as bridging linkers of the CdII centers resulting in a layered polymer. In addition, an X-ray powder diffraction and thermal gravimetric analysis and a cyclo-voltammetric characterization of the complex have also been carried out.

Abstract1,3,5-Tri(1H-imidazol-4-yl)benzene (H3L) reacts with Ni(ClO4)2 · 6H2O under hydrothermal conditions at T = 100°C to yield a new complex: [Ni(H2L)2] · 5.5H2O (1). The product is characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. Complex 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c and exhibits a binodal (3,6)-connected 2D kgd network structure with (43)2(46.66.83) topology.

Abstract In this work, a new type of zinc(II) coordination polymer {[Zn(HIDC)(BBM)0.5]·H2O} n (Zn-CP) was synthesized using 4,5-imidazoledicarboxylic acid (H3IDC) and 2,2-(1,4-butanediyl)bis-1,3-benzimidazole (BBM) under hydrothermal conditions. Its structure has been characterized by infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The Zn(II) ion is linked by the HIDC2− ligand to form a zigzag chain by chelating and bridging, and then linked by BBM to form a layered network structure. Adjacent layers are further connected by hydrogen bond interaction to form a 3-D supramolecular framework. The solid-state fluorescence performance of Zn-CP shows that compared with free H3IDC ligand, its fluorescence intensity is significantly enhanced.

AbstractNano-eggshell/Ti(IV) as a novel naturally based catalyst was prepared, characterized and applied for the synthesis of dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole derivatives. The characterization of nano-eggshell/Ti(IV) was performed using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, and Thermo Gravimetric Analysis. Dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazoles were synthesized in the presence of nano-eggshell/Ti(IV) via a four component reaction of aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate, malononitrile and hydrazine hydrate at room temperature under solvent free conditions. The principal affairs of this procedure are mild condition, short reaction times, easy work-up, high yields, reusability of the catalyst and the absence of toxic organic solvents.

Abstract The coordination polymer [Cu2(TDPH)4(QNX)].DMF, (QNX = Quinoxaline; TDPH = 3,3-thiodipropionic acid), has been prepared by reaction of copper acetate, TDPH, and quinoxaline. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal is monoclinic with a P21/n space group and dimensions of a = 12.889(3) Å, b = 14.983(4) Å, c = 14.091(3) Å, α = 90 °, β = 90.200(11) °, γ = 90 °, V = 2721.18 (2) Å3, Z = 4. The ligands are hexagonally coordinated to the Cu(II) centre in the form of Cu2O4N with one nitrogen atom from the quinoxaline ligand, and four oxygen atoms from four TDPH molecules in a monodentate fashion. The Cu-Cu bond length was 2.642(1) and 2.629(1) Å for the Cu1----Cu1 and Cu2----Cu2 bonds. The QNX ligand bridged the two copper atoms. The catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol using NaBH4 in the presence of [Cu2(TDPH)4(QNX)].DMF, as catalyst was completed within 11 minutes. The 4-aminophenol product was confirmed using 1H NMR spectroscopy.

AbstractA new coordination polymer [Cd(C10H8N2)2 (C10H4O8)]n (C10H8N2 = 2,2′-bipyridine and C10H4O8 = 2,5-dicarboxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate) has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal structural analysis reveals that the CdII cation is coordinated by two 2,5-dicarboxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate ligands and two 2,2′-bipyridine molecules, forming a distorted octahedral CdN4O2 coordination geometry. The 2,5-dicarboxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate ligands link the CdII cations to generate a one-dimensional metal-organic structure running along the [0 1 0] direction. Adjacent chains are further connected by carboxyl-carboxyl O–H···O hydrogen bonds, resulting in a two-dimensional supermolecular architecture running parallel to the (1 0 0) plane in the solid state. The fluorescence properties of the complex were investigated.

A new compound, namely, [Zn(L)2]n (1) was obtained by the reaction of 2-methyl-4-(4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl) benzoic acid (HL) with ZnSO4·7H2O, and the compound was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric analysis. The linear HL ligands were deprotonated to be L− anions and act as two-connectors to link Zn2+ to form a two-dimensional (2D) lay structure with (4, 4) topology. The large vacancy of 2D framework allows another layer structure to interpenetrate, resulting in the formation of 2D + 2D → 2D parallel interpenetration in 1. The weak interactions, such as hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking interactions, connect the adjacent 2D layers into a three-dimensional (3D) coordination polymer. The solid-state UV-visible spectroscopy and luminescent property have also been studied.

It crystallizes in monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 1.24348(13) nm, b = 1.29477(12) nm, c = 1.51480(17) nm and Dc = 1.401 g•cm-3. The results of structural analysis indicated that each Ni (II) ion forms six-coordinated with nitrogen atoms of pyridine and thiocyanate, and the Ni (II) coordination polymer material formed one dimensional chain structure by the interaction of pyridine rings.

Reinforcement of polymer with plant whiskers is a way of improving mechanical properties. Cellulose nanowhiskers (CNW) were separated from commercially available wood pulpboard. Different microscopy techniques, thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction were used to study the structure and properties of the microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and CNW. Because of the high specific surface area of CNW, the increases in total amorphous character of the cellulose decrease the relative degree of crystallinity. After chemical and physical treatment, the CNW in the length of several μm and diameters ranging from 20 - 50 nm was obtained. Both the initial decomposing temperature and temperature of maximum decomposing rate of CNW is higher than MCC, but lower than wood pulpboard.
