Chapter 6 examines the power relations underlying NGOs’ uneven negotiations of the Girl Effect. For insight into the nature of these dynamics, this chapter considers the conditions that enabled one NGO to theorize and act beyond the terms of the Nike Foundation’s power/knowledge/capital regime while another NGO was constrained by them. It focuses on the material and nonmaterial resources the NGOs mobilized, including expertise and authority, education and training, and administrative and financial independence, as well as time and space, and it examines the boundaries of possibility that resulted from a curricular, pedagogical, and relational perspective.

The purpose of this study, undertaken in 2012, was to describe provision available for under25s in prisons and to gain insight into the particularities of prison education. Six custodial establishments serving the London area were visited (prisons or Young Offender Institutions) and available statistical data were collected from a larger sample. Main findings were that, whilst many prisons are working hard to offer good provision, prison education is constrained in terms of the options available, and the length and level of courses. Some useful methods for addressing some of these problems were being used in different contexts. However, in conclusion, prisons need to focus more on education, training, and employment if they are to provide viable support for young prisoners as they move back into society. The proportion of education and training options at or above Level 2 should be increased.

The main aim of this paper is to present theoretical knowledge and to answer the question of organizing, programming, conducting and managing the training process in order to achieve the best possible education training effects and to generate planned changes in the domain of the provided knowledge, abilities and skills of sportspeople. The findings have theoretical implications for methodological steps, programming algorithm, models and methods implemented in the process of programming and managing education training programmes and give an insight into the calculating, analysis, control and managing education training effects and changes. In accordance with the aim of the paper the multidimensionality of programming and managing methodology are highlighted. The presented methodological approach in designing education and training can be applied to all sports, however, not in its entirety, due to the specific methodological steps of some sports.

In this paper, we reflect on how time is appraised, organized, and managed by a group of researchers conducting an ethnography of 12 low-income families. We develop the concept of temporal dispositions: perceptions and preferences around time that in turn shape temporal practices. The concept of temporal dispositions encapsulates individuals’ background and training, agency and reflexivity, and the dynamic nature of ongoing social life and interactions through which temporal meanings may change or take on new symbolic weight. Overlaid upon each of these are larger social structures and power relations that affirm some temporal dispositions and stigmatize others. We conclude by considering the implications for ethnographic fieldworkers. We argue that analyzing the many ways researchers and participants navigate and perceive time offers insight into unspoken temporal assumptions, ideologies, and inequalities.

Due to rapid technological advancements, firms are paying more attention to the importance of knowledge creation and sharing. Effective knowledge management can be utilized to enhance employee performance, as well as an organization’s competitiveness. Staff training is crucial to the internal knowledge transfer within an organization. Through education and training, an organization can transfer its internal knowledge to its employees. Furthermore, the use of information systems to assist in training and management has been widely adopted by organizations. This study, through action research, attempted to understand how organizations can build a Wiki system to assist in the training of new staff. When employees can obtain work knowledge from more sources, it is easier for the knowledge to be shared and transferred during training. The results show that in the process of implementing Wiki system, providing support for Wiki software design, management skill, and a knowledge sharing environment can enable employees to create and exchange knowledge. The organization itself can rapidly accumulate knowledge capital and enhance the quality of staff through such system in order to enhance its competitiveness.
