A new species, Anteon amabilis, is described from the People’s Republic of China (Zhejiang Prov., Baishanzu). Also Dryinidae were collected and studied from Xizang Zhang Autonomous Region (= Tibet) for the first time that resulted in the discovery and description of the previously unknown male of Anteon fidum Olmi. Additions to the Xu et al. (2000) key are provided so that these species can be discriminated.

This paper describes, in a humourous way, some of the frustrations, joys, pleasures and pains of a European psychologist working in a hospital in the People's Republic of China. It tells tales of families from distant fields in the remote hinterland and from the more urban communities and shows how these compare and contrast with similar situations in the U.K. Parents love their children whether in Guangzhou or Glasgow and this paper illustrates these cross-cultural connections.

A modest assemblage of hexactinellid and calcareous sponges from the Pennsylvanian (Moscovian) Dikanre Formation has been recovered from the Uygur Autonomous Region in eastern Xinjiang Province in northwestern China. Hexactinellids include the reticulosid Stereodictyum proteron Rigby and Washburn, 1972, and the new amphidiscosid species Stioderma sinensis, S. micra, and S. mega. This is the first time the genera Stereodictyum and Stioderma have been reported from Asia. Also included in the assemblage is a silicified porate permosphinctan, Amblysiphonella cf. barroisi Steinmann, 1882, which is the first report of that genus from northwestern China. Species of Stioderma are described from nearly complete specimens for the first time. Previously described species have been based on isolated spicules or relatively small fragments.
