To the Editor.— As a high school teacher I have been looking for guidance on preventing the abuse of anabolic steroids by our students. The article "Anabolic Steroid Use by Male Adolescents" by Johnson et al1 not only failed to provide this guidance, but the results failed to support the authors' conclusions. The study shows that, of the teenage users of steroids surveyed, 38% correctly identified liver disease, 35% cancer of the liver, and 30% stunted growth as side effects of steroid use.

In Reply.— Thank you for your letter regarding the article, "Anabolic Steroid Use by Male Adolescents," published in the June 1989 issue Pediatrics. I will attempt to address each of your concerns. The intent of the article was: (1) to inform health care providers about the prevalence of use of anabolic steroids in a population of 11th grade male students, (2) to increase provider awareness of the knowledge and some of the beliefs held by steroid users, and (3) to encourage providers to become knowledgeable about these drugs, so that they might be able to offer more appropriate guidance to the teenager in the clinical setting.

The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of anabolic steroid use among competitive male and female bodybuilders in Kansas and Missouri. A profile was established for users and non-users of anabolic steroids. The results of this study indicated that more than half of the male bodybuilders (54%) were using steroids on a regular basis compared to 10 percent of the female competitors. The types of steroid used were investigated and revealed that on average, four different types of anabolic steroid were used during the year, with individual use ranging from one to fifteen different types; including Dianabol, Deca Durabolin, Anavar, Testosterone, Androl 50, Winstrol, Primobolan, Equipoise, Finaject, Parabolin, HCG, Primacetate, Enanthate, Halotestin, and Maxibolin, in order of the most to least frequently used. The female bodybuilders reported that they had used an average of two different steroids including Deca Durabolin, Anavar, Testosterone, Dianabol, Equipoise, and Winstrol. The principal reason bodybuilders used steroids was related to their perception that these drugs were an important factor in winning competitions. Another important motivating factor for use was consistent with reports that significant gains in strength could be achieved by including anabolic steroids as part of the training regimen in spite of the reported adverse side-effects.

One branch of physics is mechanics. Based on interviews to Senior High School teacher in Jember, mechanics is difficult to learn. The eksternals factor this chapter is dificult to learn is learning Resources. The learning Resources are often less contextuall with around the phenomenon of students. The contextuall learning Resources in the Jember Regency is study of kynematics and dynamics in the traffic of Rembangan Tourism. From this experiment, we get data can be used as a learning resources chapter uniform rectilinear motion, decelerated uniform rectilinear motion, accelerated uniform rectilinear motion, Newton’s Law, and circular motion.
