ABSTRACTWe investigated synthesis, structure, composition as well as electric and magnetic properties of copper tantalum oxide single crystals and powder samples. It was possible to flux-grow single crystals of undoped Cu2Ta4O12. To modify the copper content in this structure, tetravalent and hexavalent ions like titanium and tungsten have been incorporated. Rietveld refinement data as well as magnetic and dielectric properties are presented.

A new perovskite based titano-manganite (La0.5-xPrxBa0.5)(Mn0.5Ti0.5)O3 at x concentration 0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.09 has been successfully prepared by ceramic solid-state technique at sintering temperature of 1300 °C. Dielectric electrical properties of the synthesized materials at frequency ranging from 5 Hz to 1 MHz and magnetic properties have been studied at room temperature. Analyses have been carried out to determine the structural, magnetic and dielectric properties of the synthesized material as a candidate of multiferroic material.

xBST-(1-x)YIG composite ceramics with x=0~1 were prepared by solid-state reaction method. The variations for phase compositions were determined by XRD, and the magnetic and dielectric properties of the composites were studied in the frequency range of 100Hz~1GHz. The results showed that the composites (x=0.1~0.9) are consisted of BST phase and YIG phase and no significant chemical interaction occurs between these two phases. The composite materials exhibit excellent frequency dependences of dielectric and magnetic properties. The resonance frequency and high frequency characteristics of YIG are improved by additions of BST, and when x=0.3, xBST-(1-x)YIG has the best dielectric and magnetic properties.

PbFeBO4 and PbMnBO4 single crystals were synthesized. The X-ray, magnetic, dielectric, Mössbauer, and resonance investigations of the crystals were fulfilled. It is established that single-crystal PbFeBO4 is an antiferromagnet with a Néel temperature TN =114 K, while PbMnBO4 is a ferromagnet with a Curie temperature TC = 31 K. Both single-crystal compounds have a strong anisotropy of the magnetic and dielectric properties.

Magnetic and dielectric properties of 3Y-TZP/20 wt.% Ba 1-x Sr x Fe 12 O 19 (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) composites prepared by solid state reaction method are investigated. The magnetic properties are improved in the composites with the strontium doped barium ferrite. When x = 0.25, the saturation magnetization of the ferrite reaches the maximum. This is due to the migration of Fe 3+ induced by the Sr 2+ doping. The dielectric properties are also improved in the composite with the strontium doped barium ferrite. When x = 0.5, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss possess the maximum. This is caused by the lattice distortion resulting from the Sr 2+ doping. The dielectric properties are analyzed by the universal relaxation law.
