The purpose of this research was to examine student teachers’ views on the kind of teachers they would like to be. The participants were 51 student teachers at the primary education department of a state university. The views of these student teachers were collected from unstructured reports that they submitted following a one-semester classroom management course in the 5th semester. The qualitative data gained from the reports, specifically the attributes that the student teachers associated with themselves, were analysed in terms of classroom management according to Korthegan’s Onion Model using a qualitative content analysis method. The data demonstrate that the participants expressed their opinions mostly regarding classroom environment, behaviour and competency. The reports also present their views about the kind of teachers they would grow into and the teacher behaviour they would like to adopt. The results of the study reveal that the student teacher participants were at the levels of interventionist and interventionist/interactionist control; 2 different approaches to dynamic assessment and classroom management styles. They also used authoritative, educational, behaviour-based, and democratic approaches. The study suggests that, in order for the student teachers to express themselves about their teaching in the layers of belief, identity and mission (inner layers) of the Onion Model, they must be provided with opportunities and experiences.

This study aimed to examine the influence of culture on the conflict management styles of Chinese executives when interacting with their German staff in Chinese companies located in Germany. A mixed method was employed. First off questionnaire survey was completed and the data was analyzed with t-test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient methods, then semi-structured interview was conducted and the qualitative content analysis method was used for analysis. This study found that IDV, UAI, IVR dimensions had significant powerful influence on conflict styles of Chinese and German managers; the cultural orientations of Chinese and Germans had also been altered, but their favorite styles remained the same due to the factors, namely: cultural regression, stability of national culture, and various dialectics.

Research focused on ECE (Early Childhood Education) stage teachers brings to light multiple models for classroom management associated with different didactic-pedagogical strategies, ranging from models close to management styles (predominant in the Spanish context) to others in which unplanned or free time predominates. Our investigation is based on the opinion of 1.350 ECE teachers in Andalusia (Spain) on positivist method principles, with an exploratory and correlational intention and the support of an ad hoc designed questionnaire, we try to identify and explore the possible correlations between methodological-organisational aspects, as well as their influence or degree of determination on the interactions that take place in the ECE classroom. The results obtained after a structural equations analysis confirmed the positive influence of some methodological-organisational aspects implemented by the teacher on the type of interactions that arise when working with learning corners in the ECE. We conclude that in order to dynamise the classroom environment it is necessary to diversify the methodological-organisational aspects that accompany teaching work, overcoming the reluctance detected in part of the teaching staff and inviting them to reflect upon training in positive attitudes towards change.

This research aims to find out the students’ attitude toward English classroom environment especially English teacher, English material and English classroom management. This research used descriptive method to find out the students attitude toward English teacher, English material and English classroom management.The population of this research was the ninth year students of SMP Kartika Banjarmasin which consists of two classes so the totalis 67 students. The instrument of the research was questionnaire by using mean score to find out the mean score of them.The result of the data analysis of the questionnaire indicated that the students have positive attitude toward English teacher (59.80), the students have positive attitude toward English material (59) and the students have positive attitude toward English classroom management (55.92).Based on the result, some suggestions are proposed: (1)Generally, the student's attitude toward English classroom environment is positive but there are still some students have neutral attitude so that its suggested to English teacher at the SMP Kartika Banjarmasin in order to learn more skills and pay attention to the classroom environment’s factor and he should be creative in teaching English so that the students can be motivated in learning English (2) To the students, they should make English as interesting subject so that it can give benefit to the future.

Classroom management is commonly understood as the structures and procedures that establish and reinforce a productive learning environment. However, traditional conceptualizations of classroom management are rife with culturally embedded norms, assumptions, power structures, and other roadblocks to a healthy classroom environment for all students. While certain routines can help set the stage for learning, teachers must critically examine such routines and expectations to establish a classroom environment that supports learners’ varying needs and backgrounds. This article unpacks several challenges with classroom management and offers offer a culturally responsive approach that supports community over compliance, moving toward democracy, mutual regard, and safe spaces.

With the development of emerging technology innovations such as the internet of things, classroom management has also shown an informatization trend. Among them, smart classrooms are an important part of the current university information environment construction. The purpose of this article is to build a smart classroom into an intelligent teaching environment with many functions such as intelligent perception and identification, real-time monitoring based on the internet of things technology and cloud computing technology. A questionnaire survey was conducted among freshman students in some majors, and interviews were conducted with the instructors. It was found that 92.19% of the students were satisfied with the classroom learning in the smart classroom environment, and most teachers thought that the teaching effect had been improved. Experiments have proven that the operation of smart classrooms based on the internet of things and cloud computing realizes the intelligence of teaching management services and improves the level of education informationization in schools.

One of the requirements to qualify as a teacher is to undergo a teaching practicum during which one gains teaching experience. This practicum is considered as the most significant way in helping student teachers to become effective classroom teachers. This study investigates UniSZA student teachers perception towards teaching practicum and the challenges encountered by them. 45 Diploma in Teaching of English (TESL) Semester 5 students at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) were chosen as respondents. The research employed qualitative methodology with questionnaire administered to examine the respondent’s answer for every question asked. The findings indicated that the student teachers have different perception and expectation regarding teaching practicum but most of them looked forward to it. The result of this study also highlighted two prominent challenges encountered by the student teachers that were to adapt with the school environment and the classroom management. Findings of this study would provide a deeper understanding on the Teaching Practicum organized by the Faculty of Languages and Communication.

PurposeThe housing construction industry is one of the most lucrative sectors for developed countries. However, homebuyers are often vulnerable when left with latent building defects in their new-build house. Many nations have thus implemented new home warranty schemes to protect consumers and stimulate residential production. These warranty programs vary excessively from state to state given the distinct nature of environments. Previous studies have attempted to compare one with another but did not apply a consistent comparative method when doing so. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics defining a new home warranty and to develop a standardised comparative framework.Design/methodology/approachAfter evaluating the characteristics outlined in multiple home warranty programs, a qualitative content analysis method was used to establish coding, categories and themes in order to create the framework. The methodology relied mostly on cross-referencing from academic papers, methodical reviews, government documents and professional consultant reports.FindingsThis paper reviewed warranty schemes from six countries: Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, France and Malaysia. The findings suggest that home warranty programs are defined by five main themes: political involvement; homeowner protection; financial sustainability; quality management; and dispute resolution. At the end, the research created a comparative framework of 101 codes that could be used to accurately measure the efficiency of a home warranty scheme.Originality/valueGathering all defining characteristics of new housing warranties into a unique comparative framework rectifies a gap in the literature. Such a flexible tool will aid future practitioners in the field to undertake comparative case study analysis through qualitative research methods.

<p>The purpose of this study was to analyze the availability and usability of aids for dyslexia according to the experiences of people with dyslexia. This was a qualitative study in which people with dyslexia were asked to participate by filling out a qualitative survey. The analysis followed the principles of qualitative content analysis method. Participants (N=11) were 15-65-year-old Finnish people with diagnosed dyslexia who use aids for dyslexia regularly. The purpose of this study was to answer the following research questions: (1) How do the people with dyslexia describe the importance of the aids for dyslexia in their everyday life and learning?; (2) Which aids for dyslexia do the people with dyslexia consider the most usable and beneficial?; and (3) What challenges have the people with dyslexia faced when using aids for dyslexia? According to the findings, aids for dyslexia were considered irreplaceably important and supported everyday life in numerous ways. The participants reported that they used aids in many areas of life, such as in school, work, and leisure. The most usable aids were computers (especially word processing soft wares), tablets, and smart phones. Most of the participants had used one or more of them. The biggest challenges were the expensiveness of aids and difficulties in learning to use aids. As the knowledge about dyslexia and number of diagnoses increase, new studies on the possible aids and their developmental needs are required. Versatile aids can provide personal help and support the coping of people with dyslexia in many areas of life. Furthermore, the study showed that, based on the participants’ experiences, more attention should be paid on the product development of aids for dyslexia in the future.</p>
