This study aims at giving an account of an analysis of errors made by Iraqi university students in the area of English Relativization system. It focuses mainly on dealing with the investigation of the syntactic errors committed by Iraqi students in English relative clause. This causes a major problem for university students learning English as a foreign language. This comes from the students' interlingual and intralingual strategies. This also indicates that the university students seem to depend on the target language (TL) system rather than on that of the native language (NL). The technique used is an error analysis which Wilkins (1972) highlights its value in giving "greater understandings of the difficulties that learners face, and will perhaps assist in the development of pedagogic strategies." (p. 206). After analyzing and interpreting the errors made in the 100 students' compositions, some recommendations are given.

This study seeks to investigate concord errors made by 200 level English students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) and Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) in their written production of English with a view to finding solutions to them. The data were obtained from fifty semester examination answer booklets written by students during first semester 2017 examination. The data collected were analysed using EA approach developed by Corder (1974). The findings of the study reveal that the errors can be grouped into ten categories out of which concord errors are the most committed by the students under study. Based on these findings, it is suggested that the teachers of English and the students should strive in handling such errors because English students are models of other students from other disciplines after graduation.

AbstractThis study aims to describe and analyze student errors in writing effective sentences. University students, especially those who were in the 1st semester, have not realized and developed Bahasa Indonesia as a skill. In the use of Bahasa Indonesian, students were not consciously guided by applicable language rules. Thus, the Bahasa Indonesian used by students was not as good and correct as expected by competence. Students have not been able to write effective sentences. There were still many students who have not applied the terms of effective sentences. In fact, the ability to write effective sentences is important for students. The approach in this research was qualitative. A qualitative approach was used in this study because the data analyzed were in the form of descriptions of observed phenomenon. In this case, the observed phenomenon was an error in writing effective sentences that occurred in the papers of hospitality students. The researcher identified the sentence that does not meet the requirements as an effective sentence and the factors behind the occurrence of the error. The results showed that students' skills in writing effective sentences were still poor. Of the five requirements for effective sentences, researchers found errors of four requirement. The accuracy was the only requirement in which no errors occurred. Based on the finding, researchers believe that students have been able to avoid writing ambiguous meaningful sentences. On the other hand, errors in clarity were very dominant found in student papers. Based on these facts, plus a test, the researcher concluded that the students have not been able to understand sentence structures well, even when students were asked to determine the subject and predicate in the sentence, more than 30% of students have not been able to determine precisely. Keywords: Error Analysis, Effective Sentence, Hospitality Students

ABSTRACTThis study, conducted at the Department of English Literature of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), aimed to investigate the morphological errors made by university students in their report texts on Indonesia’s Presidential Election in 2014. The objectives of this qualitative and descriptive study were to: a) find out the most predominant morphological errors made by the students; b) investigate the sources causing the errors; and c) suggest appropriate remediation for identified morphological errors. In analyzing the data, the Error Analysis theory, espoused by Gass and Selinker (2008), was applied as it provides six systematic procedures in overcoming L2 learning errors. Results of the analysis revealed that the students respectively made significant morphological errors in: a) the use of derivational morphemes with 46 errors (51%); b) the use of inflectional morphemes with 43 errors (47%); and c) the use of affixes with two errors (2%). The morphological error made by the students was caused by two primary sources, the interlanguage and intralanguage errors. To address these problematic areas, the researchers have suggested several pedagogical remediations to follow up.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesalahan morfologi yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa Departemen Sastra Inggris Universitas Sumatera Utara, dalam teks laporan yang mereka tulis tentang Pemilihan Presiden Tahun 2014. How to Cite: Dinamika, S. G., Siregar, E. B.A.. (2020). The paper proposes to present and analyze the error patterns of Italian native speaker university students with an average level of Spanish in relation with definite and indefinite articles, personal, possessive and demonstrative pronouns, prepositions and adverbs in Spanish. After presenting the principal characteristics of contrastive analysis and error analysis, the author focuses on the analysis of the error patterns. The basis for this is provided by a grammar test prepared by the author, relying on related academic work and personal experience. Apart from this, the paper also relies on data compiled from free compositions prepared by the students. The author provides an analysis and classification of the grammatical errors committed in the tests and compositions, and, after a brief summary of the relevant grammatical rules in Italian, elaborates on the possible causes of the errors.
