This study identifies and describes the local wisdom carried out by the coastal communities, especially the people of North Seram, Maluku in preserving the island and marine environment as well as the customary institutions in determining and guarding local wisdom of coastal communities to manage marine resources. The marine resource is started to weaken along with the development of modern technology. This paper provides contemporary phenomena regarding the weakness of customary laws and traditional institutions that regulate marine resources, including social values in the form of rituals, representing the relationship between humans and their environment. The protection of marine resources around them will be an important discussion to see the role of government and society in preserving marine and coastal resources. This study used a qualitative approach to produce descriptive explanations from reports, book reviews, and documents that describe theories and information of both past and present. The result is that the local wisdom maintained as superior cultural practices that are beneficial to human survival, especially in maintaining the sustainability and balance between humans and living objects.

In this paper, we review the role of the rheological properties at the cellular and macroscopic scale. At the cellular scale, the different components of the cell are described, and comparisons with other similar systems are made in order to state what kind of rheological properties and what constitutive equations can be expected. This is based on expertise collected over many years, dealing with components such as polymers, suspensions, colloids and gels. Various references are considered. Then we review the various methods available in the literature, which can allow one to go from the microscopic to the macroscopic properties of an ensemble of cells, in other words a tissue. One of the questions raised is: can we find different properties at the macroscopic level than the ones that we start with at the cellular level? Finally, we consider different biological materials which have been used and characterized, in order to classify them. Constitutive laws are also proposed and criticized. The most difficult part of modeling is taking into account the active part of cells, which are not just plain materials, but are living objects.

The fusiform face area (FFA) is defined by its selectivity for faces. Several studies have shown that the response of FFA to nonface objects can predict behavioral performance for these objects. However, one possible account is that experts pay more attention to objects in their domain of expertise, driving signals up. Here, we show an effect of expertise with nonface objects in FFA that cannot be explained by differential attention to objects of expertise. We explore the relationship between cortical thickness of FFA and face and object recognition using the Cambridge Face Memory Test and Vanderbilt Expertise Test, respectively. We measured cortical thickness in functionally defined regions in a group of men who evidenced functional expertise effects for cars in FFA. Performance with faces and objects together accounted for approximately 40% of the variance in cortical thickness of several FFA patches. Whereas participants with a thicker FFA cortex performed better with vehicles, those with a thinner FFA cortex performed better with faces and living objects. The results point to a domain-general role of FFA in object perception and reveal an interesting double dissociation that does not contrast faces and objects but rather living and nonliving objects.


The author sees synergetics as a very interesting scientific approach to cognition. It seems to be particularly effective in combining the theories of legal and natural sciences, for the simultaneous study of the laws of society and the universe. For the purpose of his study of the possibilities of this theory, the author will use synergetics in defining information processes, and especially in the field of information security. Therefore, considering the conceptual foundations of synergetics, the emphasis will be shifted not so much to the study of the mechanisms of self-organization of the information society as to the exploration of its management capabilities. This is especially important in the context of the coexistence of organizational and self-organizing components, the reduction of the role of anthropogenic factor, the ability to exist in full entropy and to predict bifurcation periods. In this article, the author will try to investigate the natural genesis of information accumulation, natural ways of storing information and known storage devices. However, by comparing the natural and the artificial, ways of transmitting and stealing information from natural and technical storage devices will be considered. An analogy will be made between psychological intervention in the human mind (hypnosis, magic) to obtain information from the brain or subconscious mind and modern hacking attacks for the same purposes.

The regular spiral arrangement of various parts of biological objects (leaves, florets, etc.), known as phyllotaxis, could not find an explanation during several centuries. Some quantitative parameters of the phyllotaxis (the divergence angle being the principal one) show that the organization in question is, in a sense, the same in a large family of living objects, and the values of the divergence angle that are close to the golden number prevail. This was a mystery, and explanations of this phenomenon long remained “lyrical”. Later, similar patterns were discovered in inorganic objects. After a series of computer models, it was only in the XXI century that the rigorous explanation of the appearance of the golden number in a simple mathematical model has been given. The resulting pattern is related to stable fixed points of some operator and depends on a real parameter. The variation of this parameter leads to an interesting bifurcation diagram where the limiting object is the SL(2;Z)-orbit of the golden number on the segment [0,1]. We present a survey of the problem and introduce a multidimensional analog of phyllotaxis patterns. A conjecture about the object that plays the role of the golden number is given.

AbstractWhitehouse adapts insights from evolutionary anthropology to interpret extreme self-sacrifice through the concept of identity fusion. The model neglects the role of normative systems in shaping behaviors, especially in relation to violent extremism. In peaceful groups, increasing fusion will actually decrease extremism. Groups collectively appraise threats and opportunities, actively debate action options, and rarely choose violence toward self or others.

Yet a place remains for cognitive processes to second-guess intuitive responses – that is, to be reflective – and individual differences abound in automatic, intuitive processing as well.

Abstract Tomasello offers a compelling account of the emergence of humans’ sense of obligation. We suggest that more needs to be said about the role of affect in the creation of obligations. We also argue that positive emotions such as gratitude evolved to encourage individuals to fulfill cooperative obligations without the negative quality that Tomasello proposes is inherent in obligations.
