A field experiment was conducted at the botanical garden of the University of Ilorin to determine the effects of weed density and distance on the growth and yield of two varieties of okra (NHAe-40 days and Kirikoi). The experiment was a complete randomized block design with eleven treatments and three replicates. The treatment details include T0 = No weed, T1 = One weed per plant T2= Two weeds per plant, T3 = Three weeds per plant, T4 = Four weeds per plant, T5 = Five weeds per plant, T6 = Six weeds per plant, T7 = Seven weeds per plant, T8 = Eight weeds per plant, T9 = Nine weeds per plant and T10 = Ten weeds per plant.  Data were collected on plant height, number of leaves, stem girth, shoot Fresh and dry weight as well as yield parameters was carried out at the end of the experiment. The result depicts a significant decrease in the vegetative growth and yield parameters with increasing weed density in both varieties. Irrespective of the weed distance, all yield parameters decreased significantly with increasing number of co-habiting weeds except for plant co-habited with one weed at 20 cm and 30 cm weed distance which was significantly the same with the control in both varieties. The result is an indication that absence of weed or early control of weed should be done at the early weeks of growth before the onset of flowering if maximum production is expected.

The decline in productivity of shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) is one of the horticultural crops that are consumed by many Indonesian people, therefore it is necessary to provide potassium elements on the onion crop. Where potassium in plants is very important, it plays a role as a factor in the enzymes in the process of plant metabolism, stomata regulation, and CO assimilation. Meanwhile, if the lack of potassium causes small tubers so that production decreases. This study aims to determine the response of growth and yield of onion (Allium ascalonicum L.) to several varieties and dosages of KCL fertilizer. This research was conducted in the experimental area of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Labuhabatu University, South Rantau District with a height of 13 meters above sea level. The materials used in this study were Sumenep and Maja Cipanas Shallot Seed Varieties, Urea Fertilizer, TSP and KCl. The tools used in this study are the Global Positioning System (GPS), hoe, fat, meter, sample traces, scales, ovens and stationery that support this research. This research is the development of the use of Lapindo mud and mycorrhizae as a planting medium. Lapindo mud contains nutrients such as N, P, K, Na, Ca, Mg, C organic and has a high cation exchange capacity. Mycorrhizae can increase the length of plant roots and are resistant to stress and soils contaminated with heavy metals. The study was arranged using a Randomized Block Design with factorial patterns, the first factor being the planting medium (A) and the second factor was mycorrhizae (P). The first factor is Lapindo mud and cow manure; Lapindo mud and goat manure; Lapindo mud and chicken manure with a ratio of 50%: 50%, respectively. From these two factors, 9 treatment combinations were obtained, namely A1P1, A1P2, A1P3, A2P1, A2P2, A2P3, A3P1, A3P2, and A3P3. Each treatment was repeated 3 times to obtain 27 experimental units. From the study found that there is a real interaction in providing a combination of planting media and mycorrhizae on the growth and yield of mustard plants. The best treatment combination was shown in the combination treatment of planting media (Lapindo mud and cow manure) with 10 gr mycorrhizae / plants (A1P2) on all observations (plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, fresh and dry weight of plants, root length, weight, weight wet and dry weight of root of mustard plants and absorption of heavy metal content).
