Ten species of freshwater microturbellarians of three ordens, Catenulida, Macrostomida and Rhabdocoela, were collected in seven sites situated in the Northeast region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Two species, Macrostomum johni Young, 1972 and Mesostoma productum (Schmidt, 1848), are cited for the first time for Brazil, the citation of M. johni being also the first one for the Neotropical Region. All species are cited for the first time for the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Terrestrial Isopods were sampled in four protected Atlantic Forest areas located in Serra do Mar, state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. A total of 2,217 individuals of six species (Atlantoscia sp., Benthana werneri, Pseudodiploexochus tabularis, Pudeoniscus obscurus, Styloniscus spinosus and Trichorhina sp.) were captured in pitfall traps. The exotic species S. spinosus is recorded for the first time for the Americas. Another introduced species, P. tabularis, previously recorded only from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, had its geographic distribution extended to the state of São Paulo. The most abundant isopods in this study belong to an undescribed species of Atlantoscia.

The Praxelinae comprises two genera—Praxelis and Chromolaena—and 19 species in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost State of Brazil. This is the first taxonomic treatment of these genera in the state according to their current circumscriptions. Chromolaena squarrosoramosa is formally reported for the first time for the flora of the state. The names C. callilepis and C. paraguariensis are used for the first time to refer to species previously known as Eupatorium polyanthum and E. angusticeps. Eupatorium angusticeps, considered in previous studies endemic to Rio Grande do Sul and probably extinct, is synonymized under C. paraguariensis and has its geographical range extended. Two neglected names, C. elliptica and C. latisquamulosa, are re-established, and C. umbelliformis is synonymized under C. elliptica. Furthermore, C. rhinanthacea is recollected for the first time after 40 years, and C. gentianoides is rediscovered in the state after almost 200 years of the original collection. Identification key and morphological descriptions, as well as distribution maps, field photographs, illustrations and general comments on the biology, ecology and identification of the species are provided.

Neognathophausia ingens (Dohrn, 1870) is a bathypelagic crustacean distributed worldwide. In the western Atlantic it has been recorded off the La Plata region, Argentina, and off the coast of Brazil, from the state of Bahia to Rio de Janeiro. We provide new records of N. ingens from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, about 1188 km south of its previous distribution limit off Brazil, filling the gap between the central West Atlantic and Argentina. Five specimens were analyzed and drawings for all body regions and appendages are presented. Mandible, thoracopods 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 and pleopods are illustrated and described for the first time. An updated synonym list and a distribution map for this species in Brazil are provided.

The tick collection of the Museu de Historia Natural Capão da Imbuia was first sorted in the end of the 80's, and a list of specimens was published in 1992. During the last ten years, the collection has grown substantially and became the depository collection for type-specimens. The collection is the most regional representative depository of ticks from the State of Paraná, and it is one of the four largest Brazilian collections in number of specimens. All material was revised, and the data were computerized and catalogued in cards. To date, the collection includes 504 vials, with 2,073 specimens, belonging to 25 species and six genera of the families Argasidae and Ixodidae. The ticks were collected in regional and state parks and in green areas from 60 municipalities distributed within eight Brazilian states. This catalogue corrects some of the records published in 1992 for the state of Paraná and records new host species for Amblyomma aureolatum (Pallas, 1772), A. cajennense (Fabricius, 1787), A. longirostre (Koch, 1844), A. tigrinum Koch, 1844, Ixodes aragaoi Fonseca, 1935, I. auritulus Neumann, 1904, I. fuscipes Koch, 1844 and I. paranaensis Barros-Battesti, Arzua, Pichorim & Keirans, 2003. Amblyomma brasiliense Aragão, 1908, A. coelebs Neumann, 1899, A. nodosum Neumann, 1899 and I. fuscipes are recorded, for the first time, from the state of Paraná; A. longirostre from Rio Grande do Sul; I. fuscipes from Santa Catarina; I. schulzei Aragão & Fonseca, 1951 from Rondônia; and A. rotundatum Koch, 1844 from Bahia. In addition Haemaphysalis juxtakochi Cooley, 1946 and I. fuscipes are recorded for the first time, infesting birds.

Rio Grande do Sul (RS) is the southernmost state in Brazil and includes areas within the Pampa and Atlantic Forest biomes. The semiaquatic bugs (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Gerromorpha) from RS are poorly known, with only 14 previously recorded species. We carried out two expeditions in this state, in 2002 and 2019, across 19 municipalities. Here, we provide new records for 19 species, of which 13 are recorded for the first time from the state, five have their distributions expanded, and one is recorded again from a same locality previously reported in the literature. Furthermore, 13 species were collected for the first time in the Pampa biome and one in the Atlantic Forest.

The Brazilian scorpion Tityus serrulatus is recorded for the first time in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul, thus filling a gap of 567 km in its distribution. A specimen of the scorpion was collected in the urban area of the municipality of Santa Maria (29°43′51.31″ S, 053°48′5.74″ W) on 31 June 2014. A map was generated with the points of occurrence of the species in the state.

Temnocephala lutzi Monticelli, 1913, ectosymbiont on brachyuran freshwater crabs of the genus Trichodactylus Latreille, 1828 is recorded for the first time in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. Two hundred and seventy-nine crabs of two species were examined: 211 Trichodactylus panoplus (von Martens, 1869) and 68 Trichodactylus fluviatilis Latreille, 1828 of which 51 (24.17%) and 28 (41.17%) were positive for T. lutzi, respectively. Crabs of both species carried eggs fixed, exclusively, on the floor of the branchial chambers and/or on the lower side of the gills. Adult as well as young specimens were found inside and outside the branchial chambers. The temnocephalans were always devoid of body pigmentation, although they kept the red eye pigment undiluted in specimens fixed by formalin. The cirrus of T. lutzi showed the typical shape for the species, while the dorsolateral, post tentacular 'excretory' syncytial plates, demonstrated by two special techniques (silver nitrate staining and SEM), appeared with an elliptical shape and a central nephridiopore.

The growth of humankind has brought with it several environmental problems that have worsened over time, including the loss of insect biodiversity. The Odonata order have been indicated by several authors as relevant bioindicators for assessing and monitoring environmental conditions of specific locations. The main objective of this study was to conduct an inventory of the Odonata diversity in the Pampa Biome, of the Southern region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The species survey was conducted between November 2014 and October 2015. Adult insects were collected in Capão do Leão, Pelotas and Rio Grande cities. Each location was visited nine times, totalizing 54 samplings. Entomological nets were used for capturing adult insects, which were then kept in entomological envelopes. The identification of the specimens was carried out with taxonomic keys of Lencioni and Heckman. In addition, Chao-1, the Shannon-Wiener and Jackknife indexes were associated with the sampling areas. During the species survey a total of 2 680 Odonata specimens were collected, representing 45 species encompassed in 22 genera and six families. The Libellulidae and Coenagrionidae families were registered in 60 and 30 % of the specimens sampled, followed of the Aeshnidae, Calopterygidae, Gomphidae and Lestidae, of reduced occurrence. The genera Erythrodiplax, Micrathyria and Ischnura were found at least once in all the visited sites. The study resulted in the registration for the first time of the following species: Progomphus complicatus Selys, Lestes minutus Selys, Homeoura ambigua Ris, and Tauriphila xiphea Ris. These species were not previously reported in any Odonata study of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. In regard to Odonata diversity in the Southern region of Rio Grande do Sul, Libellulidae and Coenagrionidae are the families more abundants. Erythrodiplax and Micrathyria are the most common genera. Miathyria marcella represented 9.6 % of all collected libellulidae and was the most abundant specie. Capão do Leão has the largest species diversity (wealth), the largest number of collected specimens and more diversity than Pelotas and Rio Grande. However, the results showed that the Odonatofauna in the State are still little known, and new studies are needed to better describe this group in other regions.

<p>As abelhas da subtribo Euglossina encontram-se amplamente distribuídas na região Neotropical, sendo mais diversificadas nas florestas úmidas. Objetivou-se realizar um levantamento das espécies desta subtribo em um fragmento de Mata Atlântica, um remanescente de brejo de altitude, localizado em uma região do Semiárido Brasileiro. O estudo foi conduzido no município de Portalegre, Rio Grande do Norte, entre os meses de fevereiro e agosto de 2015. A coleta de dados foi realizada mensalmente entre às 08h00 e 16h00, com a utilização de armadilhas contendo as essências eucaliptol, eugenol e vanilina. Foram coletados um total de 123 machos, distribuídos em quatro gêneros e seis espécies, sendo elas: <em>Eufriesea danielis </em>(43,09%), <em>Euglossa melanotricha </em>(25,20%), <em>Euglossa cordata </em>(15,45%), <em>Eulaema nigrita </em>(13,82%), <em>Euglossa fimbriata </em>(1,63%) e <em>Exaerete dentata</em> (0,81%). O intervalo entre 08h00 e 10h00 foi o de maior atividade, com 54,4% do total dos machos coletados. A comunidade de abelhas da região estudada apresentou maior preferência pelo eucaliptol, atraindo cinco espécies e 67 indivíduos (53,6%). A espécie <em>Eufriesea danielis </em>é reportada pela primeira vez para a região Nordeste do Brasil, enquanto que <em>Exaerete dentata </em>tem seu primeiro registro para o estado do Rio Grande do Norte.</p><p align="center"><strong><em>Euglossina (Hymenoptera: Apidae) fauna of a fragment of the Atlantic Rainforest of the Alto Oeste Potiguar, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil</em></strong></p><p><strong>Abstract:</strong> The bees of the Euglossina subtribe are widely distributed in the Neotropical region, being more diversified in the humid forests. The purpose of this research was to carry out a survey of the species of this subtribe in a fragment of Atlantic Forest, a remnant of altitude swamp, located in a region of the Brazilian Semiarid. The study was conducted in the municipality of Portalegre, Rio Grande do Norte, between February and August 2015. Data collection was performed monthly between 08h00 and 16h00, using traps containing the eucalyptol, eugenol and vanillin essences. A total of 123 males, distributed in four genera and six species were collected, which are: <em>Eufriesea danielis </em>(43.09%), <em>Euglossa melanotricha </em>(25.20%), <em>Euglossa cordata </em>(15.45%), <em>Eulaema nigrita </em>(13.82%), <em>Euglossa fimbriata </em>(1.63%) and <em>Exaerete dentata</em> (0.81%). The interval between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 was the most active, with 54.4% of the total collected males. The community of the bees studied region showed greater preference for eucalyptol, attracting five species and 67 individuals (53.6%). The species <em>Eufriesea danielis</em> is reported here the first time for the Northeast region of Brazil, while <em>Exaerete dentata </em>has its first record for the state of Rio Grande do Norte.</p>
