ABSTRACT We sought to describe the stages of scenario development with emphasis on the most relevant aspects according to the literature and guidelines of The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning and Best Evidence Medical Education, which are discussed and exemplified on the basis of our professional experience. The following stages were described and commented on for scenario design: planning, objectives, simulation structure and format, case description and perception of realism, pre-debriefing, debriefing, evaluation, materials and resources, and pilot test. A scenario design based on good practices involves important elements, and each stage is closely interrelated and interdependent in its creation process.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to develop a best practices document with facilitating components and processes for simulation management. Methods: the methodological research was conducted between April and October 2017, using four approaches: observational research, conducted in an international simulation institution; Definition of theoretical framework, from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning; integrative literature review, in international databases; and comparative analysis. It used Bardin's analysis for the categorization of the information. Results: creation of a document with good practices in simulation regarding management and practice in simulation and management of resources and data, highlighting the use of technology and the training of professionals as the most important allies for overcoming the main limitations found. Final Considerations: the product of this study is a compilation of strategies for simulation management as a tool to enhance the application of the method with greater effectiveness.

Objective: to develop and validate with a panel of experts a scenario of maternal-child clinical simulation, related to humanized childbirth and birth. Method: methodological study based on the Jeffries framework and standardized guides of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation in Learning, which used analysis with descriptive statistics for general aspects of adherence to the aforementioned guide and inferential statistics for validating the checklist of actions through the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). Results: the scenario contains learning objectives, necessary resources, prebriefing and debriefing of guidelines, description of the simulated situation, participants and roles, and checklist of expected actions. The validation obtained an agreement level above 80% in all aspects evaluated by 31 experts, highlighting realism of the environment and setting, vital sign parameters, alignment with scientific literature and encouragement of critical thinking and problem solving. In addition, the checklist of actions was validated with 0.899 agreement among experts, statistically analyzed by the ICC and Cronbach’s alpha 0.908 (95% confidence interval). Conclusion: the simulated scenario on humanized childbirth and birth can strengthen the articulation between women’s and children’s health disciplines, and was validated by experts.

AbstractIn the medical education field, the use of highly sophisticated simulators and extended reality (XR) simulations allow training complex procedures and acquiring new knowledge and attitudes. XR is considered useful for the enhancement of healthcare education; however, several issues need further research.The main aim of this study is to define a comprehensive method to design and optimize every kind of simulator and simulation, integrating all the relevant elements concerning the scenario design and prototype development.A complete framework for the design of any kind of advanced clinical simulation is proposed and it has been applied to realize a mixed reality (MR) prototype for the simulation of the rachicentesis. The purpose of the MR application is to immerse the trainee in a more realistic environment and to put him/her under pressure during the simulation, as in real practice.The application was tested with two different devices: the headset Vox Gear Plus for smartphone and the Microsoft Hololens. Eighteen students of the 6th year of Medicine and Surgery Course were enrolled in the study. Results show the comparison of user experience related to the two different devices and simulation performance using the Hololens.

This analysis explores how to optimise knowledge transfer in healthcare simulation by applying cognitive load theory to curriculum design and delivery for both novice and expert learners. This is particularly relevant for interprofessional learning which is team-based, as each participant comes to the simulation experience with different levels of expertise. Healthcare simulation can offer opportunities to create complex and dynamic experiences that replicate real clinical situations. Understanding Cognitive Load Theory can foster the acquisition of complex knowledge, skills and abilities required to deliver excellence in patient care without overwhelming a learner's ability to handle new materials due to working memory limitations. The 2 aspects of working memory that will be explored in this paper are intrinsic load and extrinsic load. These will be addressed in terms of the learner's level of expertise and how to consider these elements to enhance the learning environment in simulation scenario development and delivery. By applying the concepts of Cognitive Load Theory, this paper offers educators a method to tailor their curricula to navigate working memory and optimise the opportunity for knowledge transfer.

Abstract Nuclear Radiological accident is of great threat to the Nuclear Agency aside nuclear terrorism. In countries with little or no major nuclear infrastructural facilities, it is of great importance to educate stakeholders and employees in the handling and emergency decision involved in the usage of these radionuclides, thus training on this platform gives the maximum and technical know-how in cases where it is difficult to procure types of equipment needed for such educational exercise in real life. Ghana is a country that seeks to increase the use of nuclear technological applications. Sealed Radioactive Sources are used in Ghana for research, Agriculture, mining exploration and brachytherapy. Operators need to train immensely in the handling of these sources. The NEDDTP is a software system to help conduct training and emergency exercises simulation. The NEDDTP is developed by the China Nuclear Security center of excellence with the aim of performing the simulation and training of radiographers and emergency workers in the nuclear industry. This training platform gives a 3D real-life training scenarios, emergency simulation, command and dispatch, Process record and evaluation in exercise with virtual reality display for radiological worker. This paper elaborates on the process for scenario design, types of scenario development for different types of radiological accidents and the stages involved in training with these scenarios.

Inscribed in the scope of Applied Linguistics, this paper reports on the creation process of Bem Legal Journal and discusses its role as a formative space for pre and in-service language teachers. We present the theoretical framework which underpins the publication, providing an outline of the development of the journal since its onset: its objective, conception, and organization. Throughout a quali/quantitative analysis of the issues comprising eight years of publications, from 2011 (the launching of the journal) to 2019, we present an overview of Bem Legal’s publications. The analysis corroborates the need for spaces for language teachers to share their pedagogical practices and experiences and gives evidence to the benefits these spaces bring to all agents of language education.
