In a survey of the species of Cladonia occurring in high-altitude environments of Serra do Mar in Southern Brazil, eight species with verticillate podetia were found. Cladonia clathrata and C. imperialis are new records for the Southern Brazil; C. flagellaris, C. penicillata, and C. verticillaris are new for the State of Santa Catarina; C. calycanthoides and C. rappii are new for the State of Paraná. Detailed descriptions, an identification key, illustrations, and taxonomical remarks are provided.

There is a lack of knowledge regarding Lepidoptera species in altitudinal grassland areas, especially in the state of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. Here we report some records of Vanessa braziliensis (Moore, 1883) and Urbanus zagorus (Plötz, 1880) in high altitude areas. We have likely registered both the first record of U. zagorus for the state of Santa Catarina and the highest altitudinal record of V. braziliensis in Brazil.

In the present study we report new records of the anurans Hypsiboas curupi, Scinax littoralis, Dendropsophus elegans, and Crossodactylus schmidti for the state of Santa Catarina. These records expand the geographic distribution currently known for these species and contribute for the knowledge of the southern Brazilian anuran fauna.

A new total of nine continental gastropod forms are incorporated to the previous systematic malacological inventory of Santa Catarina's State/SC, central southern Brazil region, the species Helicina schereri Baker, 1913, Assiminea sp, Lamellaxis clavulinus (Potiez and Michaud, 1838), Lamellaxis (Leptopeas) cf. mizius Marcus & Marcus, 1968, Plekocheilus (Eurytus) sp, Rhinus cf. longisetus (Moricand, 1846), Simpulopsis cf. ovata Sowerby, 1822, Megalobulimus klappenbachi Leme, 1964, and Zilchogyra cleliae Weyrauch, 1965. Included in eight genera and seven families, raise the state record for 220 species and subspecies regionally known (190 gastropods - 148 terrestrial, 2 amphibian and 40 limnic/freshwater –, and 30 freshwater bivalves).

Euphorbia is the largest genus of Euphorbiaceae and is among the giant genera of Angiosperms. In the state of São Paulo, the genus is represented by 23 species occurring in savannas, high altitude fields, and anthropic areas. This work includes an identification key, photographs, and comments on morphology, habitat, and geographical distribution. We reestablish Euphorbia chrysophylla and recognize Leptopus brasiliensis as a synonym of Euphorbia sciadophila. Six new records for the state of São Paulo are presented: Euphorbia adenoptera, E. bahiensis, E. chrysophylla, E. cordeiroae, E. foliolosa and E. ophthalmica. Eight lectotypes are designated.

Based in reliable bibliographical technical reports of recent production, a new total of thirteen marine mollusc forms (eleventh gastropods - sea slugs, and two bivalves) are added and incorporated to the previous systematic malacological inventory of Santa Catarina s State-SC, Central Southern Brazil Region, the species Pleurobranchus testudinarius Cantraine, 1835, Cuthona cf. iris Edmunds & Just, 1983, Flabellina cf. marcusorum Gosliner & Kuzirian, 1990, Dondice occidentalis Engel, 1925, Phidiana lynceus Bergh, 1867, Tyrinna (= Okenia) evelinae (Marcus, 1958), Felimida (= Hypselodoris) marci (Marcus,1971), Tambja sp, Roboastra sp, Glaucus atlanticus Foster, 1777, Bursatella leachi Blainville, 1817, Eurytellina angrensis Marques & Simone, 2014, and Crassostrea mangle Amaral & Simone, 2014, included in thirteen genera and eleventh families, raise the state record for 667 species and subspecies regionally known (11 Polyplacophora, 408 Gastropoda, 10 Scaphopoda, 228 Bivalvia, and 10 Cephalopoda).

Three species of the terrestrial isopod genus Neotroponiscus Arcangeli, 1936 have new records presented in this paper. Neotroponiscus lenkoi Lemos de Castro, 1970, previously known only from the state of São Paulo, is recorded for the first time from the state of Rio de Janeiro. Two other species, N. argentinus (Giambiagi de Calabrese, 1939) and N. lobatus Lemos de Castro, 1970 have complementary records from the states of Santa Catarina and Espírito Santo, respectively. A distribution map is also presented.

An “explosive extratropical cyclone” is an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs when there is a very rapid drop in central atmospheric pressure. This phenomenon, with its characteristic of rapidly lowering the pressure in its interior, generates very intense winds and for this reason it is called explosive cyclone, bomb cyclone. With gusts recorded of 116 km/h, atmospheric phenomenon – “cyclone bomb” (CB) hit southern Brazil on June 30, the beginning of winter 2020, causing destruction in its influence over. One of the cities most affected was Chapecó, west of the state of Santa Catarina. The satellite images show that the CB generated a low pressure (976 mbar) inside it, generating two atmospheric currents that moved at high speed. In a northwest-southeast direction, Bolivia and Paraguay, crossing the states of Parana and Santa Catarina, and this draft that hit the south of Brazil, which caused the destruction of the affected states.  Another moving to Argentina, southwest-northeast direction, due to high area of high pressure (1022 mbar). Both enhanced the phenomenon.

Abstract In Brazil, Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests (SDTFs) are represented by Caatinga, which exhibits one of the greatest species richness and endemisms among the Neotropical SDTFs. However, studies of the flora of this biome remain deficient, especially in scientifically neglected areas, such as the Seridó region. Located between the states of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) and Paraíba, the Seridó region has an underestimated floristic diversity, especially for non-arboreal components such as climbers. Given this scenario, the study aimed to survey the climbers of the Seridó Ecological Station, a federal conservation unit located in the RN state, as well as to provide a multiple access online identification key. Collections were carried out from 2018 to 2019, as well as consultation of material deposited at the UFRN herbarium. In total, 56 species were listed, being 33 herbaceous and 23 woody climbers, respectively, adding 14 species of climbers to the previous checklist of the unit. Five new occurrences were found for the state of Rio Grande do Norte: Cuscuta globosa, Cuscuta partita (Convolvulaceae), Macroptilium bracteatum (Fabaceae), Heteropterys trichanthera and Tetrapterys longibracteata (Malpighiaceae), being the latest a new occurrence of the genus Tetrapterys for the state. Convolvulaceae is the most representative family (18 spp.), followed by Fabaceae (10 spp.), Apocynaceae (eight spp.) and Cucurbitaceae (five spp.). This is the first study that provides an interactive identification key for the Seridó region and for the RN state. New records of the recently described species Odontophrynus maisuma are presented for the state of Santa Catarina, filling gap and extending its distribution about 50 km northward.
