The article provides information about the stress state protective and decorative coatings during aging. The influence of the discrete nature of the substrate on the change in the stress state of the coatings from the action of the wind load is considered. It was revealed that for each type of coating there is its own critical value of the pore size (unfilled paint), the excess of which leads to cracking of the coatings. A method is proposed for selecting the optimal coating thickness.

This paper presents the results of a systematic study of helium swelling and the subsequent process of degradation of the near-surface layer of aluminum-based nitride ceramics. The samples were irradiated with 40 keV He2+ ions at temperatures of 300 and 1000 K with a fluence of 1 × 1017–5 × 1017 ions/cm2. The choice of radiation doses and temperature conditions was due to the possibility of simulating reactor tests of structural materials. It has been established that an increase in the irradiation fluence leads to the formation of large agglomerates of clusters of helium bubbles, as well as an increase in the degree of roughness and waviness of the surface with the formation of crater-like inclusions. In the case of irradiation at high temperatures, there was a slight decrease in the average size of helium inclusions compared with irradiation at room temperature. However, the density of inclusions and surface roughness were much higher. It is established that irradiation at room temperatures leads to a sharp decrease in ceramics density, as well as deformation of the crystal structure due to an increase in the density of dislocations and macrostresses in the structure. The decrease in ceramics density due to the formation of helium inclusions led to an increase in porosity and a defective fraction in the structure of the surface layer of ceramics.

Nickel coating on zinc alloy is quite promising for the achievement of an additional wear improvement in corrosive environment. To investigate this point, block-on-ring tests were carried out. Blocks measuring 5 × 5×20 mm3 were obtained from real locking components, made of ZP5 EN 12844 and coated by Zn/Cu1Ni5s ISO 1458. As counter material, an AISI 304 with a 40 mm diameter cylindrical geometry was used. Three load levels (5, 10 and 15 N) and three coating thickness levels (low: 5 to 10 µm; medium: 10 to 15 µm; high: 15 to 20 µm) were considered. The sliding distance was initially set to 500 m. Then, since the coating was worn out very quickly during the test, the sliding distance was set to 150 m. The results, in terms of volume loss due to wear, were processed using the statistical tool of two-way ANOVA and Fisher test. It was assessed that the wear rate is strongly affected by the applied load. The coating thickness does not significantly affect the wear.

The influence of kinematic schemes of processing by local surface plastic deformation on the intensification of the stressed state of cylindrical surfaces of parts is considered. On the basis of the finite element method by computer simulation, a mathematical model of the hardening process was obtained to determine the stress state in the surface layer for different hardening schemes. Keywords: kinematic scheme of processing, deforming tool, orbital burnishing, intensification of the stress state, residual stresses, depth of plastic deformation.
