The article presents the results of a study of the process of obtaining a shiny nickel coating on steel from sulfuric acid electrolyte in the presence of an organic brightening additive - a de-rivative of rubeanhydric acid - under different modes of electrolysis. The expediency of using a nickel coating for corrosion protection of the housing of a high-pressure centrifugal pump has been substantiated

The adhesion between the carbon fibre reinforced copper matrix composite material and the coating is of particular importance for the mechanical and functional properties of the resulting system, and also for its handling and for the lifetime of the final product. To have a better understanding of the microstructure at the interface region, three different coating processes, i.e. electroplated Nickel coating, alkyd resin coating and polyolefin coating have been carried out and compared using SEM/EDX techniques. The experimental results indicate that the electroplated Nickel coating gives the best adhesion strength at the interface, suggesting this method the most promising approach and can be further investigated for electrical and electronic engineering applications in power industry.

Abstract The work is aimed at studying the effect of galvanic nickel coating of a stainless steel cylinder on the quenching. In order to compare the results, the polished stainless steel cylinder was used as a sample. In addition, the influence of the formation of an oxide layer on the cooling process was studied. The experiments were carried out in water and ethanol with different subcoolings. The oxidized porous nickel coating led to increasing of the transition temperature from stable film boiling to intensive boiling regime. It was especially noticeable for cooling in water at high subcooling due to the higher cooling intensity caused by vapour layer thinning.

The results of tribological tests for a cathodic arc nickel coating doped with phosphorus are presented. The coating (thickness of 2 μm) is applied by a vacuum arc method from a nickel target with 6% phosphorus. The friction coefficient (Cfr) was determined on the tribometer, the depth of wear h of the coating after tribological tests was determined by the contact profilometry method, and the specific volumetric wear (ω) was calculated. The obtained values of Cfr, ω, and h were used to optimize the parameters of tribological tests (load and slip frequency).

The influence of wetting additive based on C12 - C14 alkyl ester sulfate with essential oils on the quality of nickel coatings is examined in the paper. The additive was tested at different concentrations added to the base electrolyte, taking the following concentrations: the concentration recommended twice lower (C1); lower recommended concentration (C2); upper recommended concentration (C3); the concentration twice higher compared to the lower recommended (C4) and the concentration twice higher compared to the upper recommended (C5). The value of the surface tension of the solution was determined, and the corrosion resistance in the salt chamber was examined. In addition, what is important in the production itself is the visual appearance of the coating, which was determined using the Hull cell test. The additive has been proven to be effective in reducing the surface solutions, which directly affects the production of nickel coatings of better quality and aesthetic appearance.
