In this paper, we report for the first time two spider species for Albania, four for Bulgaria and two for Greece: Altella lucida (Simon, 1874) (Bulgaria), Eresus moravicus Rezác, 2008 (Bulgaria and Greece), Filistata insidiatrix (Forsskål, 1775) (Albania), Harpactea samuili Lazarov, 2006 (Greece), Loxosceles rufescens (Dufour, 1820) (Albania), Pritha parva Legittimo, Simeon, Di Pompeo et Kulczycki, 2017 (Bulgaria) and Pritha vestita (Simon, 1873) (Bulgaria). The recently described species P. parva is the first report for the Balkan Peninsula, while P. vestita is the first record for mainland Europe. Their congener Pritha nana (Simon, 1868) is removed from the Bulgarian checklist of spiders (misidentification). As a result of our report, the number of spider species increases to 571, 1049 and 1183 in Albania, Bulgaria and Greece, respectively.

The first report of Phimodera flori Fieber, 1863 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Scutelleridae) in the Balkan Peninsula (Mt. Olympus, Greece) is presented. This continental European and Central Asian species is rare in southern Europe where it has been found only at high altitudes of the Alps and the Pyrenees so far. It has been regarded as extinct from the 1970’s in many countries. The species is recorded for the first time for Greece, being Mt. Olympus the southernmost known locality.

Abstract Poa jubata A. Kern., an annual South-eastern European species, is reported for the first time from Italy. It is a therophyte linked to temporary ponds with soils flooded during the winter period. It is a very rare and enigmatic species, currently known only from a few localities of the Balkan Peninsula. Recently, it was surveyed in an Apulian wetland, near Brindisi, where it grows with several other annual hygrophytes. For its taxonomical isolation, it is included in a monospecific section, as P. sect. Jubatae. In addition to a detailed description, the chromo-some complement (2n = 14) of this species is examined for the first time and a new iconography is provided.

First records of peracarid crustaceans obtained from the Cayo Matías Ocean Blue Hole, southwestern Cuba, aredocumented. In addition, two new species of isopod and amphipod are herein described. Gnathia micheli n. sp. (Isopoda,Gnathiidae) and Boca normae n. sp. (Amphipoda, Aristiidae) were associated with filamentous algae at a depth of 20 m.Both represent the first report for a blue hole and the amphipod constitutes the first record of the genus for Cuba and theCaribbean Sea. Three other isopods, i.e. Gnathostenetroides sp., Cirolana parva, and Cirolana crenulitelson, and the cumacean Procampylaspis sp. are documented for the first time from the same blue hole.

AbstractA total of 19 helminth species (1 trematode, 11 cestodes, 7 nematodes) were collected from 45 vagrant shrews, Sorex vagrans (Mammalia, Soricidae), in western Montana, USA. One trematode (Brachylaima sp.), 2 cestodes (Paruterina candelabraria, Staphylocystoides longi), and 6 nematodes (Baruscapillaria rauschi, Eucoleus oesophagicola, Longistriata meylani, Paracrenosoma sp., Parastrongyloides winchesi, Pseudophysaloptera formosana) are reported for the first time from this host. Baruscapillaria rauschi n. comb. is proposed for Capillaria rauschi Read, 1949. This is the first record of merocercoids of P. candelabraria from a shrew, and the first report of the genus Paracrenosoma in North America.

The invasive harvestmen Leiobunum sp. A (Arachnida: Opiliones) spread rapidly across Europe. Since the first report from the Netherlands at the beginning of the 21st century its known range covers most of the western and central European countries, reaching Berlin in the East. In this note we report for the first time two new sites from Poland which move its range 230 and 300 km eastward, respectively. It was found in Chocz near Pleszew and Dąbrówka near Poznań (Wielkopolska Lowland). Chocz is now easternmost site of this species in Europe. Morphological measurements and drawings are given. Female genitalia are described for the first time.

The caddisfly species Rhyacophila pubescens Pictet, 1834 is reported from R. North Macedonia for the first time. Our investigations showed the presence of this species at only one locality at Osogovo Mountain, above the Sasa mine. R. pubescens is commonly distributed in Central Europe but has been rarely found in the southeastern parts of the continent. This record marks the southernmost occurrence of this species in the Balkan Peninsula and increases the number of Rhyacophila species of R. North Macedonia to seventeen. The results obtained in our study a) provide information on the distribution of R. pubescens in the Balkan Peninsula; b) comment on the ecological preferences of the species and c) serve as a valuable source of information for further biodiversity and population studies.

Summary Three acanthocephalan parasites, namely Neoechinorhynchus (Neoechinorhynchus) quinghaiensis, Rhadinorhynchus ganapatti, and Bolbosoma sp. are reported for the first time from Philippine fishes. N. (N.) quinghaiensis (Neoechinorhynchidae) may have been introduced into the country through the importation of carp species from China, where this parasite was first described and is presumed to be naturally occurring. The adult worms of R. ganapatti and the isolated cystacanth of Bolbosoma sp. represent the first record of parasites from both the family Rhadinorhynchidae and Polymorphidae in Philippine waters, respectively. These three new records encompass a third of all listed acanthocephalan parasites that have been reported in Philippine fish species to date, highlighting the need for more biodiversity-focused parasitology research, in light of potentially numerous more undocumented parasite species.

Cryptopodia angulata is reported for the first time from Saurashtra coast of Gujarat state. One adult female was found in trawl catch near Sutrapada village of Saurashtra coast on January, 2012. Although the species is not common in Indian waters, this species has been reported from the south east coast of India. This is the first report from Saurashtra coast.

This paper is a first report on species of endosymbiotic ciliates (Litostomatea, Trichostomatia) inhabiting the intestine of zebras in South Africa. Ciliates from Mountain Zebra were investigated for the first time in the world. The wild population of mountain zebras in general and the Cape Mountain Zebra subspecies in particular is low in numbers: this species is included as vulnerable in the IUCN Red List. Approximately 15 species of trichostome ciliates from 9 different genera were found in the samples collected from wild zebras in Western Cape, South Africa. Some of the ciliate species are also common to horses and other equids, while others are unique for zebras. The ciliates of Triplumaria genus common to elephants and rhinoceroses, and the species Blepharosphaera ceratotherii previously described in rhinoceroses were found in equids for the first time.
