Learner’s role in learning a foreign language has been paid more and more attention in the recent years and learner autonomy is widely recognized as an educational goal. How to integrate teaching with developing learner autonomy has become a hot topic in the educational reform. However, few researches have been made in China’s specific class context. The extension learning achievement presentation (ELAP) activity conducted in two of China’s universities is such an exploratory practice. Based on the theory of learner autonomy and the characteristics of university students, the ELAP is designed to make an integration of students’ learning both in and out class so as to promote the simultaneous development of autonomous learning and language use abilities. The combination of classroom teaching with students’ out class learning enables the foreign language learning to become a process of learner autonomy development. In the process of sharing each other’s achievements, the students deepen their understanding of the knowledge learned and widen their horizon. The result of quantitative and qualitative data analysis reveals that the ELAP has greatly stimulated the students’ enthusiasm in learning. They have undertaken reflective learning, made a better understanding of their learning methods and process, and raised their autonomous learning awareness and ability. And the teachers’ orientation in helping shift the students’ learning concept and methods has been proved to be the major affecting factor to success or failure of the ELAP and the cultivation of students’ autonomous learning ability.

This paper explains why learner autonomy is taken into account in language learning where English is a foreign language for the learners particularly in Indonesia. The definition of learner autonomy and its advantages to language learner in EFL contexts will be described within this paper. Many scholars from psychological education and English teaching and learning had proved that language learning can be improved by certain strategy. They revealed the correlation between the autonomous learning with students’ success in learning with different aspect. The definition of autonomy is similar to many different words such as self-regulated and self-determined. Finally, the writer suggests how teacher can promote the autonomous learning atmosphere in the classroom. Keywords: strategy, promoting autonomy, EFL context, Indonesia

The study aims to find out whether it is possible to foster students’ learner autonomy in the context of ESP language learning in non-linguistic universities by using a special approach. The experiment was carried out at National Aviation University in Ukraine with two groups of first-year students of electronics (experimental and control) in 2018-2019. Testings to determine students’ level of communicative competence in English and surveys to identify students’ level of learner autonomy development were conducted in September and May of the same year of education. The control group did not receive any special training, while in the experimental group were created special learning conditions. With the purpose to prepare students to accept responsibility for their learning, they were given the opportunities to choose educational materials; to set goals of their learning; to reflect the process and evaluate the results of learning, etc. Modern technologies were widely used as well as scaffolding (if necessary). According to the results of the experiment, it was stated that only a part of the most active students used the created conditions and gained experience in autonomous learning. The conclusion was made about creating such an environment. It is a challenge that is appropriate to realize to give an autonomous learning experience to aspiring students.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DEIXIS ERRORS IN STUDENTS’ ESSAYS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF GERMAN LITERATURE OF UM Abstract This study aimed at determining the erros in using personal deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis in students’ essays on Niveau A2 in the Department of German Literature of UM and also aimed at determining the factors that motivate the occurrence of deixis errors. The subjects were essays written by students which were made in the course of Aufsatz II. The research objects were personal deixis errors, spatial deixis errors, and temporal deixis errors. The data were collected using the observation method which consisted of basic techniques in the form of recording techniques and continued by using the technique of uninvolved-conversation observation. The research instrument in this study was the researcher (human instrument). The data trustworthiness was gained through intrarater and interrater. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by using the distributional method. The results of this study are as follows. In the essay of Niveau A2 students in the German Literature Department of UM, there are some errors in using personal deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis. Errors of personal deixis are realized in six forms of pronouns: personal pronouns, relative pronouns, indefinite pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, and possessive pronouns. Errors of spatial deixis are realized in adverbs and verbs. Errors of temporal deixis are realized in adverbs and tenses. The occurrences of those errors are motivated by a variety of factors, i.e. interference, over-generalization, communication strategies, elements of foreign language learning, a lack of contrast, the students’ social psychological conditions, domino effect, and redundancy. Keywords: errors, deixis, essay

Norwegian children in the 21st century are quite massively exposed to English as an L2, primarily through subtitled television programmes, films and various computer-based activities. The article investigates to what extent this passive exposure influences their basic phonological competence in the L2 by analyzing their ability to actively distinguish between certain phoneme pairs in English which are considered difficult for Norwegian learners, mainly due to interference from the phonemic system in their L1. The data material was collected through 136 recordings of 11-16 year old pupils in ten Norwegian state schools. By comparing the results to similar studies made in Norway 20-35 years ago, at a time when young people's exposure to English was considerably more limited, the article discusses the effects of incidental foreign language acquisition on young people's L2 competence. The discussion is also placed in the light of recent, international research in this field. By critically investigating some of the findings of that research, the article furthermore attempts at problematizing the concept of L2 acquisition by focusing on the distinction between active and passive language competence. The findings indicate that basic L2 phonological competence is in no way automatically enhanced by passive exposure to the language. The article points to the necessity of structured teaching programmes to counterweight the complexity and variations in the L2 input that young people encounter in their media based exposure to the L2.

The low level of oral skills in learning English  as a foreign language seems to be related to the lack of spaces and opportunities to interact in dynamic learning environments since the texts and study materials are not related to the context in which the student lives. This research answers the question of whether a b-learning ecosystem with devices for monitoring learning and integrated into cultural dimensions of the students’ environment improves the learning of oral skills in learning English. The proposal is based on advances in research on ecosystems of learning and embodied cognition. A system  is designed from the specification of learning spaces integrated into a spiral structure. An online learning environment integrates with an ecosystem with elements  of  Boyacá  cuisine  to develop communicative interactions and autonomous learning activities.  The  proposal is validated by taking as population, grade 11 students from the Colombian system and two equivalent samples of selected students, based on previous performance in the English subject in the current school year.  Statistical analysis  of results supports the positive answer to the research question and supports the importance of the cultural integration of learning b- learning ecosystems in foreign language learning.
