BACKGROUND: Currently, several types of designs of support rings of M. Muller, Burch-Schneider, rings of the company Protek (Switzerland), implanted in the BB are widely used, which are used in the surgical treatment of long-standing fractures of the BB, as a rule, as a device that strengthens the walls of the BB. AIM: Study of the deformation properties of the repositional-fixing ring. MATERIALS AND METHODS: For carrying out mechanical tests, a ring with an external diameter of 52 mm was made by the method of sequential sintering using additive technologies by the company Konmet LLC, Moscow. Laboratory mechanical tests were carried out by the Testing Laboratory of Medical Devices and Materials of the N.N. Priorov National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics. RESULTS: As a result of static testing of the ring for compression, tension, torsion, and joint stretching and twisting of the edges of the ring connector, its deformation properties are studied. Load corresponding to the deformation of 2 mm, kN: compression 0.180; tension 0.061; torsion (torque corresponding to the angle of rotation of 5 degrees, Nm) 2.653; joint tension with twisting of the edges of the ring connector (load corresponding to the deformation of 10 mm, kN) 0.048. CONCLUSION: The results of the initial study of the deformation behavior of the ring structure show that it is necessary to refine the ring design and further study the deformation and strength characteristics of the ring.

Purpose. To assess the severity of penetrating eye trauma in children in Tajikistan. Material and methods. Retrospectively there was analyzed 277 case histories of children with a diagnosis of penetrating eye injury, admitted to the children’s department of the National Medical Centre of the Republic of Tajikistan for the provision of specialized ophthalmological care. Results. The average age of children at the time of injury to the organ of sight was 7.06 ± 3.01 years, mainly these were villagers (70%). Children under 7 years old accounted for 57.8% of those admitted to the hospital. The terms of admission to the hospital ranged from 1 to 14 days, an average of 43.02 ± 33.35 hours. The severity is caused by damage to 2 or more structures of the eyeball in 81,3%. Wounds larger than 6 mm prevailed and amounted to 63,5%. Endophthalmitis at admission was noted in 8,3% of cases. Enucleation was performed in 2 children; 244 children underwent primary surgical treatment. Visual acuity at discharge was higher than 0.1 in 72 of 275 children (26.2%), lower than 0,1 in 194 (70.7%). Conclusion. Almost every second child (43.0%) is admitted to the hospital for primary surgical treatment of an eyeball wound after 24 hours. About 2/3 of cases of eye damage are characterized by large wound sizes. Stab wounds were noted in 90.2% of cases. In 58.8% of cases, damage to the cornea was observed and in 68.6% – damage to the lens area.

Reactive powder concrete (RPC), typically with higher compressive strength, is particularly attractive to structural engineers to apply them in infrastructures for enhancing their resistance under severe environments and loads. The main objective of the initial study presented in the paper was to investigate the behavior of two types of these new cementitious materials differing in the nature of microfibers. The RPC mixes were reinforced with steel and then with basalt microfibers. To evaluate the structural performance of developed unconventional materials, properties were investigated experimentally and compared with the control normal concrete mix. Mechanical tests indicated that dispersing fine fibers for making RPC, a mean compressive strength of 198.3 MPa and flexural strength 52.6 MPa or 23.2 MPa, respectively, were developed after 28 days of standard curing at ambient temperatures. In composite structures consisting of steel girders and a concrete slab, it is necessary to prevent the relative slip at the steel and concrete interface using shear connectors. The very high RPC strength enabled a material saving, weight-reduced application of precast construction, and particularly effective joint to steel beams. The investigation of such shear connection efficiency, in the case of the higher strength concrete deck, using standard push-out test specimens was executed. Finite element numerical models were developed. The outputs of the studies are presented in the paper.

Experience in surgical treatment of 65 patients with complex fractures of the acetabulum is presented. All patients underwent open reposition with internal fixation of fragments by reconstructive plates. Basic moments of the performance of portals to acetabulum, steps of reposition and fixation in multi-segment comminuted fractures are described. Algorithm for determination of indications to surgical treatment of complex acetabular fractures was determined. Clinical and roentgenologic results were studied at terms from 1 to 9 years. Excellent results were established in 39.5%, good and satisfactory in 34.9%, poor in 25.6% of patients. It was shown that in complex bi-columned fractures the technique of open osteosynthesis was the most effective when used within the first 3 weeks after injury. Simultaneous use of anterior and posterior accesses considerably facilitated the performance of reposition and stabilization of multi-segment comminuted fractures and enabled to achieve favorable treatment results.
