Real-time remote courses offer the students the valuable resource of cultural diversity and the access to professors who are leaders in their field of knowledge. It also encourages the practice of several skills with technology as a learning tool. We have studied how courses taught by internationally experienced leaders, relying on communication technologies, impact the students and can be a valuable complement to traditional classes offering them a global perspective in its formation. This paper focuses on the validation of the experience looking at student satisfaction for a teaching methodology in a real-time remote model. It also takes into account the recommendations from their professors. This information can provide valuable data to consider in order to further promote this scheme of classes and successfully continue teaching through real-time remote classes.

Distance education is an alternative to traditional education made possible by technology. The essential components for remote teaching are easy access, usefulness, social interaction, and flexibility of time and place. Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) has recently implemented a program to promote the visit of foreign professors to Mexico, this initiative is called PEV (foreign visitor professor). One way to get more benefits from the program is to invite them to give distance classes once their presence year in Mexico has ended. This case study describes student satisfaction with the theoretical-practical courses taught through the real-time distance learning method in the School of Architecture and Industrial Design. The determining factors in the student approval were defined as: the learners’ inclination to take similar courses, the quality of contact between teacher and students, feeling inspired by the professor, and recommending the course to other students. The primary factors of novelty, flexibility, and utility of the remote format were measured using a Likert-type scale. The findings revealed a notable level of acceptance by students. Specifically, the course format factor was positively valued by the sample. These findings are significant to Latin American and international universities because they describe one way to improve their distance or remote teaching and learning offerings.

The purpose of this study is to examine satisfaction of students from academics while pursuing higher education in the field of business in India, focusing on a variety of service quality factors such as, teaching methodology, delivery and assessment, quality of study material, understandability etc. Study relies on finding the relationship between service quality variables and student satisfaction at an academic institution. The motive behind conducting this research is to analyze, how academics play a crucial role in affecting satisfaction level of students, catering students in Noida region.

Electrocardiography (ECG) interpretation is an essential skill for physicians as well as for many other health care professionals. Continuing education is necessary to maintain these skills. The process of teaching and learning ECG interpretation is complex and involves both deductive mechanisms and recognition of patterns for different clinical situations (“pattern recognition”). The successful methodologies of interactive sessions and real time problem based learning have never been evaluated with a long distance education model. To evaluate the efficacy of broadcasting ECG rounds to different hospitals in the Southeastern Ontario region; to perform qualitative research to determine the impact of this methodology in developing and maintaining skills in ECG interpretation. ECG rounds are held weekly at Kingston General Hospital and will be transmitted live to Napanee, Belleville, Oshawa, Peterborough and Brockville. The teaching methodology is based on real ECG cases. The audience is invited to analyze the ECG case and the coordinator will introduce comments to guide the case through the proper algorithm. Final interpretation will be achieved emphasizing the deductive process and the relevance of each case. An evaluation will be filled out by each participant at the end of each session. Videoconferencing works through a vast array of internet LANs, WANs, ISDN phone lines, routers, switches, firewalls and Codecs (Coder/Decoder) and bridges. A videoconference Codec takes the analog audio and video signal codes and compresses it into a digital signal and transmits that digital signal to another Codec where the signal is decompressed and retranslated back into analog video and audio. This compression and decompression allows large amounts of data to be transferred across a network at close to real time (384 kbps with 30 frames of video per second). Videoconferencing communication works on voice activation so whichever site is speaking has the floor and is seen by all the participating sites. A continuous presence mode allows each site to have the same visual and audio involvement as the host site. A bridged multipoint can connect between 8 and 12 sites simultaneously. This innovative methodology for teaching ECG will facilitate access to developing and maintaining skills in ECG interpretation for a large number of health care providers. This paper aims at discussing the potentials of bottom-up design practices in relation to the latest developments in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by making an in-depth review of inaugural cases. The first part of the study involves a literature study and the elaboration of basic strategies from the case study. The second part reframes the existing ICT tools and strategies and elaborates on their potentials to support the modes of participation performed in these cases. As a result, by distilling the created knowledge, the study reveals the potentials of novel modes of ICT-enabled design participation which exploit a set of collective action tools to support sustainable ways of self-organization and bottom-up design. The final part explains the relevance of these with solid examples and presents a hypothetical case for future implementation. The paper concludes with a brief reflection on the implications of the findings for the future of architectural design education.

This paper presents results from an application of a newly developed simulation tool for pollution based real time control (PBRTC) of urban drainage systems. The Oslo interceptor tunnel is used as a case study. The paper focuses on the reduction of total phosphorus Ptot and ammonia-nitrogen NH4-N overflow loads into the receiving waters by means of optimized operation of the tunnel system. With PBRTC the total reduction of the Ptot load is 48% and of the NH4-N load 51%. Compared to the volume based RTC scenario the reductions are 11% and 15%, respectively. These further reductions could be achieved with a relatively simple extension of the operation strategy.

Smoke taint has become a prominent issue for the global wine industry as climate change continues to impact the length and extremity of fire seasons around the world. Although the issue has prompted a surge in research on the subject in recent years, no singular solution has yet been identified that is capable of maintaining the quality of wine made from smoke-affected grapes. In this review, we summarize the main research on smoke taint, the key discoveries, as well as the prevailing uncertainties. We also examine methods for mitigating smoke taint in the vineyard, in the winery, and post production. We assess the effectiveness of remediation methods (proposed and actual) based on available research. Our findings are in agreement with previous studies, suggesting that the most viable remedies for smoke taint are still the commercially available activated carbon fining and reverse osmosis treatments, but that the quality of the final treated wines is fundamentally dependent on the initial severity of the taint. In this review, suggestions for future studies are introduced for improving our understanding of methods that have thus far only been preliminarily investigated. We select regions that have already been subjected to severe wildfires, and therefore subjected to smoke taint (particularly Australia and California) as a case study to inform other wine-producing countries that will likely be impacted in the future and suggest specific data collection and policy implementation actions that should be taken, even in countries that have not yet been impacted by smoke taint. Ultimately, we streamline the available information on the topic of smoke taint, apply it to a global perspective that considers the various stakeholders involved, and provide a launching point for further research on the topic.
