Background: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy comprising of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia are a major cause of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Neurological manifestations of pregnancy induced hypertension are the most common cause of maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality. Cranial neuro-imaging reveals focal regions of symmetric hemispheric oedema; with parietal and occipital regions getting most commonly affected.Methods: The study was conducted among 65 antenatal women diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and eclampsia at gestational age >20 weeks in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, Kamla Nehru State Hospital for Mother and Child IGMC Shimla. Clinical signs and symptoms, neuroimaging findings were recorded for study purpose.Results: About 17.6% of severe pre-eclampsia and 100% of eclampsia had findings observed on cranial MRI. Headache and visual complaints were most frequently recorded. PRES was the predominant neuroradiographic finding in present study and occipital lobe was commonly affected region. No significant difference was observed regarding blood pressure parameters between MRI positive and negative subjects.Conclusions: Neuroimaging in antenatal with severe hypertensive disorders might aid in better understanding of the poorly explained phenomenon. In addition, this would be helpful in better management of the disorders along with their much-dreaded complications. Patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy should be subjected routinely to cranial imaging for the better perinatal outcomes.

Aim:  The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of Alveogyl, 0.8% hyaluronic acid (HA), and 0.2% chlorhexidine digluconate (CHX) gel in reducing pain and improving clinical signs and symptoms of alveolar osteitis. Methodology: The clinical data of patients treated for alveolar osteitis between 01/01/2015 and 01/01/2019 were retrieved for this study. All patients were initially treated by curettage and physiological saline irrigation. Patients were then divided into 4 groups. Group 1 was considered the control group; no other biomaterials were administered after curettage and physiological saline irrigation. All other groups were administered an additional treatment in the socket after curettage and physiological saline irrigation (Group 1 – Alveogyl; Group 2 - 0.8% HA; Group 3 - 0.2% CHX). Patents were evaluated before surgery as well as days 3 and 7 after surgery. The postoperative evaluations included: Visual analog scale(VAS) pain scores, the presence of clinical signs and symptoms of exposed alveolar bone, disorganized blood clot, inflammation around the socket, and bad odor and taste. Results: Sixty-seven patients were included in the study. There was no statistically significant difference between groups in all control evaluations (p>0.05). There was significantly reduced inflammation around the extraction socket on postoperative day 7 in the CHX group compared to that in the control group (p<0.05). No other significant changes in clinical signs and symptoms were observed among groups. Conclusion: There was no significant difference between curettage with physiological saline irrigation alone and the addition of Alveogyl, 0.8% HA, or 0.2% CHX in the reduction of pain in alveolar osteitis. Abstract Campylobacter jejuni is a leading cause of bacterial diarrhoea worldwide. The objective of this study was to examine the association between C. jejuni capsule types and clinical signs and symptoms of diarrhoeal disease in a well-defined birth cohort in Peru. Children were enrolled in the study at birth and followed until 2 years of age as part of the Malnutrition and Enteric Infections birth cohort. Associations between capsule type and clinical outcomes were assessed using the Pearson's χ2 and the Kruskal–Wallis test statistics. A total of 318 C. jejuni samples (30% from symptomatic cases) were included in this analysis. There were 22 different C. jejuni capsule types identified with five accounting for 49.1% of all isolates. The most common capsule types among the total number of isolates were HS4 complex (n = 52, 14.8%), HS5/31 complex (n = 42, 11.9%), HS15 (n = 29, 8.2%), HS2 (n = 26, 7.4%) and HS10 (n = 24, 6.8%). These five capsule types accounted for the majority of C. jejuni infections; however, there was no significant difference in prevalence between symptomatic and asymptomatic infection (all p > 0.05). The majority of isolates (n = 291, 82.7%) were predicted to express a heptose-containing capsule. The predicted presence of methyl phosphoramidate, heptose or deoxyheptose on the capsule was common.

Background: The diagnosis of Osgood-Schlatter Disease (OSD) is based on clinical signs and symptoms. However, more objective parameters, like thermal images, have been researched to determine, along algometry, valid parameters. Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the thermal differences and the painful sensibility between the knees (with SOS and contralateral) of young soccer players. Methods: 6 young men, aged between 12 and 15, members of football schools, composed the sample. Images were taken from an anterior view of both knees, with the volunteer in a seated position, the knees flexed at 90º degrees and both feet flat on the floor. After the thermal image capture, the patients were submitted to an evaluation with the pressure algometer. Results: According to the results, it was found that the knee affected by the OSD showed temperatures significantly higher than the contralateral (p = 0.027) and also greater sensitivity to the pressure algometry (p = 0.027). Conclusion: it can be concluded that the inflammatory process, during OS Syndrome, promotes a local thermal hyper-radiation, identified with the high sensitive thermographic infrared image, producing a significant difference in local temperature between the knees of a single individual. Moreover, this process also increases the pain sensibility, accessed by pressure algometry.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyze the demographic characteristics of patients with central giant cell granulomas (CGCGs) and peripheral giant cell granulomas (PGCGs) in Iranian population.Methods: The data were obtained from records of 1019 patients with CGCG and PGCG of the jaws referred to our department between 1972 and 2010. This 38-year retrospective study was based on existing data. Information regarding age distribution, gender, location of the lesion and clinical signs and symptoms was documented. Results: A total of 1019 patients were affected GCGLs including 435 CGCGs and 584 PGCGs during the study. The mean age was 28.91 ± 18.16. PGCGs and CGCGs had a peak of occurrence in the first and second decade of life respectively. A female predominance was shown in CGCG cases (57.70%), whereas PGCGs were more frequent in males (50.85%). Five hundred and ninety-eight cases of all giant cell lesions (58.7 %) occurred in the mandible. Posterior mandible was the most frequent site for both CGCG and PGCG cases. The second most common site for PGCG was posterior maxilla (21%), whereas anterior mandible was involved in CGCG (19.45%). The majority of patients were asymptomatic. Conclusions: In contrast to most of previous studies PGCGs occur more common in the first decade and also more frequently in male patients. Although the CGCGs share some histopathologic similarities with PGCGs, differences in demographic features may be observed in different populations which may help in the diagnosis and management of these lesions.Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science Vol.15(2) 2016 p.220-223
