<p class="abstract">Cutaneous leiomyosarcomas are uncommon neoplasms, accounting for 1-3% of all the soft tissue sarcomas. They encompass a variety of clinicopathological features that makes their diagnosis difficult. They are divided into various categories, as this division has an important prognostic implication. We describe a rare case of recurrent cutaneous leiomyosarcoma of the anterior abdominal wall in a 50 years old female. </p>

Abstract Hibernomas are rare neoplasms composed of brown adipose tissue. The behavior of these neoplasms has been described as uniformly benign in humans. The only recurrence cited in the English literature involved a sarcoma with hibernoma-like features, which was reported in abstract form. We present 2 cases of hibernoma, one that continued to grow following partial excision and another at an unusual site (anterior abdominal wall). Both of these tumors overexpressed p53 protein by immunohistochemistry, which was a novel finding. A review of the literature highlights recent advances that may help confirm the diagnosis and explain the biology of these rare tumors.

Undifferentiated soft tissue sarcomas are a group of diagnostically challenging tumors in the pediatric population. Molecular techniques are instrumental for the categorization and differential diagnosis of these tumors. A subgroup of recently identified soft tissue sarcomas with undifferentiated round cell morphology was characterized by Capicua transcriptional receptor (CIC) rearrangements. Recently, an array-based DNA methylation analysis of undifferentiated tumors with small blue round cell histology was shown to provide a highly robust and reproducible approach for precisely classifying this diagnostically challenging group of tumors. We describe the case of an undifferentiated sarcoma of the abdominal wall in a 12-year-old girl. The patient presented with a voluminous mass of the abdominal wall, and multiple micro-nodules in the right lung. The tumor was unclassifiable with current immunohistochemical and molecular approaches. However, DNA methylation profiling allowed us to classify this neoplasia as small blue round cell tumor with CIC alterations. The patient was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by complete surgical resection and adjuvant chemotherapy. After 22 months, the patient is disease-free and in good clinical condition. To put our experience in context, we conducted a literature review, analyzing current knowledge and state-of-the-art diagnosis, prognosis, and clinical management of CIC rearranged sarcomas. Our findings further support the use of DNA methylation profiling as an important tool to improve diagnosis of non-Ewing small round cell tumors.

Abstract Ameloblastic fibrosarcoma (AFS) is a rare, aggressive malignant odontogenic tumor. AFS is seen most frequently in second and third decades of life. We are reporting a case of a low grade AFS in a 21-year-old male complaining of a painless swelling in the right side of the maxilla. The patient was treated with surgical excision followed by radiotherapy, which is considered the most effective approach for most of soft tissue sarcomas. AFS has a high-reported recurrence rate (up to 37%); therefore, long-term surveillance for recurrence is crucial.

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a high-grade, malignant mesenchymal neoplasm. These tumors represent the most common soft tissue sarcomas of children and adolescents. RMS is uncommon on the lip and it is rarely seen in adults. Here, we report a rare case of primary RMS, embryonal type, occurring on the upper lip in a 27-year-old female.

Synovial Sarcomas (synoviomas) are the fourth most common malignant soft-tissue tumours, and typically develop in para-articular locations of the extremities in close association with joint capsules, tendon sheaths, bursae and fascial structures. Other less common sites include the head and neck, abdominal wall, intra-abdominal cavity, and mediastinum. In this article, an interesting and rare case of a 25-year-old man with left upper abdominal lump is reported which was subsequently diagnosed as biphasic synovial sarcoma (spindle cell variety) of anterior abdominal wall.
