In this article, we address how skilled migrant women experience job search processes in Finland, and the expectations and emotions that arise from these workforce encounters, which we explore through unique qualitative data. Although Finland relies strongly on principles of equality and inclusion, highly educated migrant women face major difficulties in job application processes. The employment level of migrant women in Finland is low compared to other Nordic countries, and even though migrant women are more educated than migrant men and their Finnish language skills are better, they encounter many hurdles in employment. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation is getting more difficult for many women with non-Finnish background. There are multiple hurdles in highly educated women workers’ employment, which relate to structural and cultural aspects and which end up in discrimination in recruitment processes.

Little research has examined exercise-based interventions meant to alleviate depressive symptoms among Korean-Chinese migrant women workers living in Korea. Thus, this study evaluated the effectiveness of a 24-week walking program on reducing depressive symptoms and acculturative stress levels in this population. This quasi-experimental sequential walking program was conducted with 132 Korean-Chinese women over a period of 24 weeks. Participants were divided into either a standard treatment group (n = 69) or enhanced treatment group (n = 63). All participants were instructed to walk using a pedometer. The enhanced treatment group also received mobile text messages designed to encourage walking adherence and improve acculturation. Participants were asked to complete two structured questionnaires, the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale and the Acculturative Stress Scale, to evaluate the intervention programs. At the end of the program, both groups exhibited decreased depression scores, but the decrease in the enhanced treatment group was more significant both at weeks 12 and 24. Acculturative stress was also found to have decreased at weeks 12 and 24. Our findings show the walking program reduced the depressive symptoms and acculturative stress levels among the Korean-Chinese women in this study. Further studies will be needed to analyze the relationship between walking step count and mental health considering exercise intensity.

This study aims to investigates the supporting and inhibiting factors in non vowel Islamic’s Kitab Kuning (The Yellow Books) educa- tion at Pesantren Putri al-Ishlahiyyah Singosari. Qualitative research method is used in this study by using descriptive qualitative data. From the analysis, this study finds : 1) The implementation of the education is still in a traditional form, which is, using only pesantren’s material and exclude the public school’s general material in it’s curriculum. Moreover, language learning methods used in Madrasah Diniyah classes consist of enumeration methods ( bandongan ), rote methods ( hafalan ), and assess- ment methods; 2) This study concludes that supporting factors in this pesantren are: educational infrastructure and facilities , interconnected learning materials, highly educated santri and ustadz . Meanwhile, the in- hibiting factors are : less active and motivated students, lack of the in- structional media and related books, the existence of translation books which make students less motivated to learn the non-translated source books, Monotonous teaching methods, and lastly, insufficient duration due to short period and time allocation.

We use online job application data to study the relationship between search intensity and search duration. The data allow us to control for job seeker composition and the evolution of available job openings over the duration of search. We find that, within an individual search spell, search intensity declines continuously. We also find that longer-duration job seekers search more intensely throughout their search. They tend to be older, male, nonemployed, and live in areas with weaker labor markets. Our findings contradict standard assumptions of labor search models. We discuss how to reconcile the theory with our evidence. (JEL E24, J24, J63, J64)
