Determining the authenticity of documents is an important task when conducting investigative measures. In practice, for the examination of documents to determine the prescription of their creation, a spectral method is used, in which it is necessary to make clippings from the document under study, which leads to damage to the document under study, and also requires the use of expensive equipment, which affects the price of the examination of the document. The article describes a method for determining the authenticity of a document based on computer colorimetry, which does not require expensive equipment for conducting an examination. This method for determining the authenticity of a document uses a change in the color of the strokes of a ballpoint pen over time, which is caused by the drying of the solvent in the ink of the pen, and also lacks the disadvantage of the need to damage the document under study.

This chapter introduces a cutting-edge research field of computer vision and image understanding – the spatial-temporal behavior understanding. The main concepts, the focus of research, the typical technology, the fast development, etc. of this new field in recent years are overviewed. An important task in computer vision and image understanding is to analyze the scene through image operation on the image of scene in order to guide the action. To do this, one needs to locate the objects in the scene, and to determine how they change its position, attitude, speed and relationships in the space over time. In short, it is to grasp the action in time and space, to determine the purpose of the operation, and thus to understand the semantics of the information they passed. This is refereed as the understanding of spatial-temporal behaviors.

Analyzing and understanding collections of textual documents is an important task for professional analysts and a common everyday scenario for nonprofessionals. We have developed the Jigsaw visual analytics system to support these types of sensemaking activities. Jigsaw’s development benefited significantly from the existence of the VAST Contest/Challenge that provided (1) diverse document collections to use as examples, (2) controlled exercises with a set of analytic tasks and solutions for judging results, and (3) visibility and publicity to help communicate our ideas to others. This article describes our participation in a series of VAST Contest/Challenge efforts and how this participation helped influence Jigsaw’s design and development. We describe how the system’s capabilities have evolved over time, and we identify the particular lessons that we learned by participating in the challenges.

The tax system is nowadays an important tool that can greatly influence the economy of every country. Its proper setup and the setup of all its parts is an extremely important task. This system has the task of raising funds for the state budget through the collection of taxes. The tax system is constantly evolving over time and adapts to the changing needs of the country. The aim of the paper is to compare the tax burden of a selected taxpayer group in the Slovak and Czech Republics. Part of the paper is an analysis of the conditions under which a taxpayer can benefit from a tax exemption and when he is required to pay contributions to the Social Insurance Company. The paper refers to the possibilities of advantageous application of tax rules to specific groups of taxpayers. The paper also includes specific examples of such situations.

AbstractEvolved dispositions influence, but do not determine, how people think about economic problems. The evolutionary cognitive approach offers important insights but underweights the social transmission of ideas as a level of explanation. The need for asocialexplanation for the evolution of economic attitudes is evidenced, for example, by immense variations in folk-economic beliefs over time and across individuals.

Articulatory generalization of velar cognates /k/, /g/ in two phonologically disordered children was studied over time as a function of sequential word-morpheme position training. Although patterns of contextual acquisition differed, correct responses to the word-medial, inflected context (e.g., "picking," "hugging") occurred earlier and exceeded those to the word-medial, noninflected context (e.g., "bacon," "wagon"). This finding indicates that the common view of the word-medial position as a unitary concept is an oversimplification. Possible explanations for superior generalization to the word-medial, inflected position are discussed in terms of coarticulation, perceptual salience, and the representational integrity of the word.

Purpose This study reports on the treatment fidelity procedures implemented during a 5-year randomized controlled trial comparing intensive and distributed comprehensive aphasia therapy. Specifically, the results of 1 treatment, verb network strengthening treatment (VNeST), are examined. Method Eight participants were recruited for each of 7 consecutive cohorts for a total of 56 participants. Participants completed 60 hr of aphasia therapy, including 15 hr of VNeST. Two experienced speech-language pathologists delivered the treatment. To promote treatment fidelity, the study team developed a detailed manual of procedures and fidelity checklists, completed role plays to standardize treatment administration, and video-recorded all treatment sessions for review. To assess protocol adherence during treatment delivery, trained research assistants not involved in the treatment reviewed video recordings of a subset of randomly selected VNeST treatment sessions and completed the fidelity checklists. This process was completed for 32 participants representing 2 early cohorts and 2 later cohorts, which allowed for measurement of protocol adherence over time. Percent accuracy of protocol adherence was calculated across clinicians, cohorts, and study condition (intensive vs. distributed therapy). Results The fidelity procedures were sufficient to promote and verify a high level of adherence to the treatment protocol across clinicians, cohorts, and study condition. Conclusion Treatment fidelity strategies and monitoring are feasible when incorporated into the study design. Treatment fidelity monitoring should be completed at regular intervals during the course of a study to ensure that high levels of protocol adherence are maintained over time and across conditions.

Abstract The techniques of performing a tracheostomy has transformed over time. Percutaneous tracheostomy is gaining popularity over open tracheostomy given its advantages and as a result the number of bedside tracheostomies has increased necessitating the need for a Percutaneous Tracheostomy Program. The Percutaneous Tracheostomy Program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital is a comprehensive service that provides care to patients before, during, and after a tracheostomy with a multidisciplinary approach aimed at decreasing complications. Education is provided to patients, families, and health-care professionals who are involved in the management of a tracheostomy. Ongoing prospective data collection serves as a tool for Quality Assurance.
