The results of the studies of the electrochemical synthesis of multilayer graphene oxide were presented, and the possibility of using it as an electrode material of the supercapacitor was shown. In an alcohol suspension the thickness of the particles of multilayer graphene oxide was less than 0.1 µm with an area of more than 100 µm2. The graphene oxide-based electrode has a high specific capacity of 107 F·g−1 and a high charge retention rate of 97% after 5000 cycles. It was shown that the graphene oxide electrode had a maximum specific energy of 8.7 W·h·kg−1 at the current density of 0.1 A·g−1 and had a maximum power of 2291.1 W·kg−1 at the current density of 4 A·g−1. The application of a lithium-thionyl chloride cell with a multilayer graphene oxide cathode on a nickel grid was tested. It was found that graphene oxide synthesized using the electrochemical method is a promising electrode material for creating a symmetric supercapacitor.

In this work, the Ni–Mn layered double hydroxide (Ni–Mn LDH) nanopetals are fabricated on three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide/Ni foam (RGO/NF) by one-step hydrothermal method, in which the suspension of graphene oxide (GO) is directly reduced by nickel foam (NF) to obtain NF/RGO. The composite, which consists of interconnected Ni–Mn LDH nanopetals, forms a macroporous structure. Such an open space can promote electrolyte dispersion and ion diffusion of active substances, thus enhancing capacitance performance. Remarkable, during crystal growth, RGO can not only provide active sites for Ni–Mn LDH nanopetals, but also effectively connect Ni–Mn LDH nanopetals to NF, further promoting the electrochemical behavior of composite material. Moreover, RGO possess reasonable chemical stability which can improve the mechanical properties of the composite to obtain good stability. The experimental results show that the NF/RGO electrode material with Ni–Mn LDH nanopetals has excellent specific capacitance of 2250[Formula: see text]F[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] at 1[Formula: see text]A[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text], good rate performance (the capacitance retention rate is still 64.0% at 10[Formula: see text]A[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] and excellent cycle life (45.1% at 10[Formula: see text]A[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] after 5000 cycles). NR/NM–LDH is used as the positive electrode and activated carbon is used as the negative electrode to assemble the asymmetric supercapacitor, the proper power density and energy density indicates that the NR/NM–LDH composite has great potential as an electrode material for supercapacitors.

In this study, we present a novel strategy for enhancing polyaniline stability and thus obtaining an electrode material with practical application in supercapacitors. A promising (graphite foil/polyaniline/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) GF/PANI/PEDOT:PSS) electrode material was characterized and used in the construction of a symmetric supercapacitor that provides an outstanding high power density. For this purpose, the electropolymerization of PANI was carried out on a graphite foil and then a thin protective layer of PEDOT:PSS was deposited. The presence of the nanometer PEDOT:PSS layer made it possible to widen the electroactivity potential range of the electrode material. Moreover, the synergy between materials positively affected the amount of accumulated charge, and thus the thin PEDOT:PSS layer contributed to enhancing the specific capacity of the electrode material. The electrochemical performance of the GF/PANI/PEDOT:PSS electrode, as well as the symmetrical supercapacitor, was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge cycles in 1 M H2SO4 at room temperature. The fabricated electrode material shows a high specific capacitance (Csp) of 557.4 Fg−1 and areal capacitance (Careal) of 2600 mF·cm−2 in 1 M H2SO4 at a current density of 200 mA·cm−2 (~4 A·g−1). The supercapacitor performance was studied and the results show that a thin PEDOT:PSS layer enables cycling stability improvement of the device from 54% to 67% after 10,000 cycles, and provides a high specific capacity (159.8 F·g−1) and a maximum specific power (18,043 W·kg−1) for practical applications.

AbstractMgSO4 is chosen as an additive to address the capacity fading issue in the rechargeable zinc-ion battery system of MgxV2O5·nH2O//ZnSO4//zinc. Electrolytes with different concentration ratios of ZnSO4 and MgSO4 are investigated. The batteries measured in the 1 M ZnSO4−1 M MgSO4 electrolyte outplay other competitors, which deliver a high specific capacity of 374 mAh g−1 at a current density of 100 mA g−1 and exhibit a competitive rate performance with the reversible capacity of 175 mAh g−1 at 5 A g−1. This study provides a promising route to improve the performance of vanadium-based cathodes for aqueous zinc-ion batteries with electrolyte optimization in cost-effective electrolytes.

Flower-like C@V2O5 microspheres with high specific capacity were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. The microstructure, specific capacity and electrochemical properties of C@V2O5 microspheres were studied. Results showed that the C@V2O5 microspheres with a diameter of ∼3 m are covered over by V2O5 nanosheets, and therefore have a large surface area which is almost 5 times higher than that of pure V2O5 powders. Moreover, the initial specific capacity of C@V2O5 microsphere is as high as 247.42 mAh · g–1, and after 100 cycles, the capacity retention rate is still 99.4%. Compared with pure V2O5, flower-like C@V2O5 microspheres show higher discharge specific capacity, better rate performance and more stable cycling performance.

Nitrogen-enriched reduced graphene oxide electrode material can be successfully prepared through a simple hydrothermal method. The morphology and microstructure of ready to use electrode material is measured by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Physical characterizations revealed that nitrogen-enriched reduced graphene oxide electrode material possessed high specific surface area of 429.6 m2 · g−1, resulting in high utilization of electrode materials with electrolyte. Electrochemical performance of nitrogen-enriched reduced graphene oxide electrode was also investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge/discharge measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in aqueous in 6 M KOH with a three-electrode system, which displayed a high specific capacitance about 223.5 F · g−1 at 1 mV · s−1. More importantly, nitrogenenriched reduced graphene oxide electrode exhibited outstanding stability with 100% coulombic efficiency and with no specific capacitance loss under 2 A · g−1 after 10000 cycles. The supercapacitive behaviors indicated that nitrogen-enriched reduced graphene oxide can be a used as a promising electrode for high-performance super-capacitors.

Abstract Transition metal oxides as anode materials have received extensive research owing to the high specific capacity. Whereas, the rapid decline of battery capacity caused by volume expansion and low electrical conductivity hinders the practical application of transition metal oxides. This study reported a pseudo-capacitance material polypyrrole coated Fe2O3/Mn2O3 composites material as a high stability anode for lithium-ion batteries. The polypyrrole coating layer can not only serve as a conductive network to improve electrode conductivity but also can be used as a protective buffer layer to suppress the volume change of Fe2O3/Mn2O3 during the charging and discharging process. At the same time, the porous structure of Fe2O3/Mn2O3 composite can not only provide more active sites for lithium storage but also play a certain buffer effect on the volume change of the material. Polypyrrole-coated Fe2O3/Mn2O3 composite as the anode for lithium-ion batteries shows great electrochemical storage performance, with high specific capacity (627 mAh g− 1 at a current density of 1A g− 1), great cycle stability (the capacity not shows obvious signs of attenuation after 500 cycles) and rate performance (432 mAh g− 1 at a current density of 2.0 A g− 1).
