Purpose: To validate the standard values and evaluate the success rate in the treatment of minor and major trichiasis using thermoablation with a diode green laser. Methods: In this interventional prospective study, individuals with minor or major trichiasis who were treated with thermoablation using diode green laser were included. The patients’ mean age was 72.1 years; the majority were females (54.1%) and Caucasian (98%). The parameters of the diode laser were wavelength of 532 nm, application time of 200 ms, target size of 50 μm, interval between the shots 150 to 200 ms, and power of 600 to 750 mW. The number of shots was defined by the depth of ablation sufficient to reach the pilus hair bulb. The patients were evaluated by slit-lamp every 3 to 4 months, for up to 15 months. The treatment success rate and the association between variables were analyzed. Results: The study sample was comprised of 98 patients with 135 affected lids and 337 lashes with trichiasis. Minor trichiasis (91.8%), unilateral trichiasis (67.3%), trichiasis affecting the lower eyelid (85.9%), and trichiasis resulting from blepharitis (64.3%) were the most common presentation profiles. The overall cure rate at the end of the study was 85%, with 69% being cured with a single session and 82.8% with two treatment sessions. Conclusion: Thermoablation using a diode green laser applying the specified parameters to treat minor and major trichiasis is effective and results in high cure rate.

BACKGROUND AND AIM:Helicobacter pyloritreatment success rates have varied. A systematic review of the success rate of anti-H pyloritherapy in Canada was performed.METHODS: All clinical trials containing Canadian data on the success rate ofH pyloritreatment were identified using MEDLINE searches, through review of references of retrieved studies and by contacting key investigators. Both randomized and open-label trials were included. Treatment effect size was calculated using a variation of Cochran’s Q method.RESULTS: Seventeen papers met the inclusion criteria. Both triple therapies consisting of a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), clarithromycin and either amoxicillin or metronidazole performed well, achieving a success rate of 84% and 82%, respectively. The cure rate of PPI-amoxicillin + metronidazole was 76%. Quadruple therapy consisting of a PPI, bismuth, metronidazole and tetracycline, given for seven to 10 days, achieved a success rate of 87%.CONCLUSION: Both PPI-based triple therapy and quadruple therapy perform well in Canada for the treatment ofH pyloriinfection.

The study use intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injection proceduce for chalazion treatment.1. Objectives: To evaluate results of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injection for chalazion treatment. 2. Method: This noncomparative prospective interventional trial included 72 chalazions of 61 patients. 3. Results: 61 patients (72 chalazions) with 19 males (31.1%) và 42 females (68.9%), the mean age was 24 ± 9,78 years. 31.1% patients was the first time chalazion and 68.9% patients was more than one times chalazion including 78.6% patients was recurrent at the first position and 21.4% patients occur at new position. 72 chalazions with 16 (22.2%) chalazions was treated before and 56 (77.8%) chalazions wasn’t done that. 72 chalazions with 49 chalazions (68.1%) are local in upper eyelid and 23 chalazions (31.9%) are local in lower eyelid. The mean of chalazion diameter is 6.99 ± 3.03mm. Intralesional triamcinolone acetonide is injected to treat 72 chalazions with 16 (22.2%) chalazions are injected through the route of skin and 56 (77.8%) chalazions are injected through the route of conjunctiva. After 2 weeks follow-up, the success rate was 93.1% and 6.9% failed. 4. Conclusion: intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injection for chalazion treatment is really effective. Key words: chalazion, intralesional triamcinolone acetonide.

Abstract Background In China, an indigenously developed electronic medication monitor (EMM) was designed and used in 138 counties from three provinces. Previous studies showed positive results on accuracy, effectiveness, acceptability, and feasibility, but also found some ineffective implementations. In this paper, we assessed the effect of implementation of EMMs on treatment outcomes. Methods The longitudinal ecological method was used at the county level with aggregate secondary programmatic data. All the notified TB cases in 138 counties were involved in this study from April 2017 to June 2019, and rifampicin-resistant cases were excluded. We fitted a multilevel model to assess the relative change in the quarterly treatment success rate with increasing quarterly EMM coverage rate, in which a mixed effects maximum likelihood regression using random intercept model was applied, by adjusting for seasonal trends, population size, sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, and clustering within counties. Results Among all 69 678 notified TB cases, the treatment success rate was slightly increased from 93.5% [95% confidence interval (CI): 93.0–94.0] in second quarter of 2018 to 94.9% (95% CI: 94.4–95.4) in second quarter of 2019 after implementing EMMs. There was a statistically significant effect between quarterly EMM coverage and treatment success rate after adjusting for potential confounders (P = 0.0036), increasing 10% of EMM coverage rate will lead to 0.2% treatment success rate augment. Besides, an increase of 10% of elderly or bacteriologically confirmed TB will lead to a decrease of 0.4% and 0.9% of the treatment success rate. Conclusions Under programmatic settings, we found a statistically significant effect between increasing coverage of EMM and treatment success rate at the county level. More prospective studies are needed to confirm the effect of using EMM on TB treatment outcomes. We suggest performing operational research on EMMs that provides real-time data under programmatic conditions in the future.

908 mW of green light at 532 nm were generated by intracavity quasiphase matching in a bulk periodically poled MgO:LiNbO3 (PPMgLN) crystal. A maximum optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 33.5% was obtained from a 0.5 mm thick, 10 mm long, and 5 mol% MgO:LiNbO3 crystal with an end-pump power of 2.7 W at 808 nm. The temperature bandwidth between the intracavity and single-pass frequency doubling was found to be different for the PPMgLN. Reliability and stability of the green laser were evaluated. It was found that for continuous operation of 100 hours, the output stability was better than 97.5% and no optical damage was observed.
