Many areas of the world today have access to alternative energy sources to meet their energy needs. A fundamental problem facing societies today is to determine the optimum utilization of energy sources. This paper analyzes the issues involving co-utilization of different types of energy production in Iceland. Formulating a dynamic social optimization problem, expressions are derived for optimal energy supply prices from each energy source. Based on the economic characteristics of the energy sources, an optimal solution is derived that involves both periods of specialization in a single energy source as well as periods of simultaneous co-utilization of available sources.

The growing human population and the increasing energy needs have produced a serious energy crisis, which has stimulated researchers to look for alternative energy sources. The diffusion of small-scale renewable distributed generations (DG) with micro-grids can be a promising solution to meet the environmental obligations. The uncertainty and sporadic nature of renewable energy sources (RES) is the main obstacle to their use as autonomous energy sources. In order to overcome this, a storage system is required. This paper proposes an optimized strategy for a hybrid photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage system (BSS) connected to a low-voltage grid. In this study, a cost function is formulated to minimize the net cost of electricity purchased from the grid. The charging and discharging of the battery are operated optimally to minimize the defined cost function. Half-hourly electricity consumer load data and solar irradiance data collected from the United Kingdom (UK) for a whole year are utilized in the proposed methodology. Five cases are discussed for a comparative cost analysis of the electricity imported and exported. The proposed scheme provides a techno-economic analysis of the combination of a BSS with a low-voltage grid, benefitting from the feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme.

Solar energy represents one of the future energy sources with a high potential, used as an alternative to conventional methods, especially during summer. The advantages of using solar energy are multiple, this type of energy being virtually endless and free, and its use has no negative effects on the environment, being regarded as a clean energy source. Solar energy has multiple applications in agriculture, one of its benefits being that it is used for dryers as an alternative energy source, especially in regions with a high solar potential. In this paper different types of fruits and vegetable dryers, nationally and abroad are presented, as well as results obtained from different methods of solar dryers.

Renewable energy sources provide a perspective for reducing the harmful effects on the environment. They also help to reduce the cost of meeting energy needs after the return on investment in alternative energy. The tourism sector and in particular the hotel business use significant amounts of energy resources. Therefore, the purpose of this report is to present the nature of RES and the ways of application in the hotel industry. Barriers and opportunities for overcoming them are outlined. Some good practices of using alternative energy sources in the hotel business are presented.

The continuous depletion of fossil fuel reserves and threats on climate change makes it essential for searching alternative energy sources. Renewable energy can play a vital role in this regard. Solar energy is the most promising renewable energy source available so far. In this paper, the availability of solar energy in Bangladesh and the prospects of solar photovoltaic based power generation are discussed. Analysis for different sources of solar energy is revealed. Especially the current scenario and prospect of Solar Park is investigated. And the result shows that according to the future plan, Solar Park is going to hold the largest share among all the renewable energy sources. According to the Renewable Energy Master Database, the total renewable energy capacity including all categories is about 2.4 GW. Among these, solar park projects are the main contributors in terms of capacity which is 2,110.56 MW.

The article considers the existing alternative motor fuels and energy sources that can be used in power power plants of road transport, formulated the requirements for promising energy sources (renewable and non-renewable), as well as the prospects for the use of alternative energy sources to create traction in road transport. Keywords road transport; internal combustion engine; alternative motor fuels; alternative energy source; ecological compatibility; energy crisis

ABSTRACT: Wood is the primary energy source for grains and Tobacco drying in the Rio Pardo Watershed (RPW). The amount of firewood produced in the RPW is not enough to supply the demand. Recently, an automatized supply system was introduced in the region enabling the use of sawdust and pellets. In this context, this study aims to compare firewood, sawdust and pellets as energy sources for Tobacco curing in air-forced curing systems. Energetic density was used to estimate the biomass consumption in Tobacco curing. The consumption of biomass is lower for pellet, followed by firewood and sawdust. Pellets and sawdust could complement firewood in the region; however, research is necessary to ascertain the economic feasibility.

Globalization, industrialization and urbanization have led to the global energy crisis. There is a great demand for non-renewable energy sources to meet the energy needs. This in turn has led to the exhaustion of fossil fuels. Therefore there is an urgent need to rely on alternative energy sources that can be replenished and also ecofriendly. Researchers are now trying to find an alternative solution to replace the consumption of fossil fuels with alternate energy sources. This has led to the evolution of the generation of biofuels. The present study aims to give an overview of the development of the different generations of biofuels for sustainable development in the coming future for global growth. It gives an idea to explore next-generation biofuels to meet our energy needs. Although biofuel is not a ‘Green energy”, it can be used as a substitute energy source. Good energy policies should also be announced by the governments to implement efficiently and effectively.
