Globalization, industrialization and urbanization have led to the global energy crisis. There is a great demand for non-renewable energy sources to meet the energy needs. This in turn has led to the exhaustion of fossil fuels. Therefore there is an urgent need to rely on alternative energy sources that can be replenished and also ecofriendly. Researchers are now trying to find an alternative solution to replace the consumption of fossil fuels with alternate energy sources. This has led to the evolution of the generation of biofuels. The present study aims to give an overview of the development of the different generations of biofuels for sustainable development in the coming future for global growth. It gives an idea to explore next-generation biofuels to meet our energy needs. Although biofuel is not a ‘Green energy”, it can be used as a substitute energy source. Good energy policies should also be announced by the governments to implement efficiently and effectively.

The growing human population and the increasing energy needs have produced a serious energy crisis, which has stimulated researchers to look for alternative energy sources. The diffusion of small-scale renewable distributed generations (DG) with micro-grids can be a promising solution to meet the environmental obligations. The uncertainty and sporadic nature of renewable energy sources (RES) is the main obstacle to their use as autonomous energy sources. In order to overcome this, a storage system is required. This paper proposes an optimized strategy for a hybrid photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage system (BSS) connected to a low-voltage grid. In this study, a cost function is formulated to minimize the net cost of electricity purchased from the grid. The charging and discharging of the battery are operated optimally to minimize the defined cost function. Half-hourly electricity consumer load data and solar irradiance data collected from the United Kingdom (UK) for a whole year are utilized in the proposed methodology. Five cases are discussed for a comparative cost analysis of the electricity imported and exported. The proposed scheme provides a techno-economic analysis of the combination of a BSS with a low-voltage grid, benefitting from the feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme.

An overview of the substantiation of the relevance of the transition to mass ecological housing construction, which is determined by an acute shortage of housing and a high increase in the cost of electricity, is given. The development of an ecological substantiation of an energy-independent house using the example of a one-story house, taking into account natural and climatic conditions, is presented. The characteristics of the work of all utilized engineering systems are considered. It has been established that the housing and utilities sector, being one of the main sources of air and groundwater pollution, creates a large amount of household waste, which has a detrimental effect on the environmental situation. Renewable energy sources have an inexhaustible supply, since they are obtained from natural processes that will not be exhausted in the foreseeable future. Thus, the prospects for renewable energy sources are in considering them to replace fossil fuels. Economic efficiency is defined, which implies that the energy source is economical both in relation to the net cost of production and in relation to supply. The development of renewable energy sources will play an important role in the transformation and digitalization of the Russian power industry. Technologies of energy storage, intelligent systems for forecasting production and demand, predictive analytics of equipment condition, consumption management and many others will be developed.

The energy crisis of 1973-1974 showed that it is difficult to constantly increase the power supply of production, based only on traditional energy sources. The power supply of society is the basis of its scientific and technological progress. It means that it is necessary to introduce unconventional, alternative energy sources more widely. Unlike fossil fuels, unconventional forms of energy are not limited to geologically reserves. Their use and consumption does not lead to the inevitable exhaustion of stocks. However, currently, the reform of world energy markets and increasing the share of renewable energy sources in their structure is a long and innovative process. Lots of countries (Russia in particular) bear significant risks because of reforming their own energy market, which causes a slight increase in the share of renewable energy sources. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to analyse the influence of environmental factors on the development of renewable energy sources in Russia. The result of this study is a system of econometric equations, which allows to evaluate the impact of changes in key drivers of the development of the renewable energy market.

There is a huge renewable potential found in Nigeria which is yet to be explored. The heavy reliance on fossil fuels such as crude oil for its energy production has made it a top contributor to greenhouse gases up to 1.01 % of global emissions. Pertinent efforts have been placed on exploring renewable energy sources given the increased awareness of its sustainability. Furthermore, indicators suggest that crude oil will become a much less significant driver of the energy sector in the coming years. In the light of these issues, this paper presents the potentials that renewable energy has to offer, challenges that could limit its exploitation, and the current status of energy initiatives, including the decade-old renewable energy master plan. Meanwhile, we also discuss the benefits of adopting renewable energy technologies for urban and rural communities. In conclusion, the adverse effect of the exploitation of fossil fuels on the environment, including global warming, glacial meltdown, and acid rain, can be mitigated. Overall, the carbon footprint can be reduced if the potentials are appropriately utilized and converted into an accessible and affordable energy source. Although renewable energy projects have a high initial cost of running over a long life, the cost is small or no compared to conventional sources. The authors recommend the need to explore alternative energy sources that will be environmentally friendly and meet present energy demands.
