This study examines managerial views on management information systems in strategic planning process. A survey conducted with top managers revealed that most managers are using MIS in the development and implementation of corporate strategies. The findings also show that the use of MIS in strategic planning does not differentiate significantly according to type of industry, size of company budget, or the companys MIS budget allocation. Furthermore, problems associated with use of MIS are discussed, and suggestions are made to narrow the gap between MIS developers and users.

This paper discusses the roles and functions of strategic planning of informationsystems in health services. It selects four specialised methodologies of strategicplanning for analysis with respect to their applicability in the health field. It thenexamines the utilisation of information planning in case studies of three healthorganisations (two State departments of health and community services and oneacute care institution). Issues arising from the analysis concern the planning process, the use to which plans are put, and implications for management.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors that managers have to take into consideration when they implement the strategic information systems planning (SISP) process to develop information systems (IS) in the logistics sector. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected using questionnaires to IS executives in Greek small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of the logistics sector. Factor analysis is performed on the detailed items of the SISP process constructs. Findings The results of this paper indicate that IS executives do not focus on defining goals, which will be used to improve the operations of the supply chain for the IS development. Both IS executives and managers from the logistics department of each organization should participate in the process of information technology (IT) strategy formulation and implementation. Executives from the logistics department of each organization should be aware of implementing environmental and organizational analysis with greater meticulousness, to identify IT opportunities and apply IT strategy with greater agility rather than now. Practical implications A strategic planning process for IS development in the logistics sector is required to achieve the consistently IS planning objectives. This is an important challenge for executives in SMEs who do not concentrate on implementing a strategic planning process for IS development. Originality/value This paper examines the factors that influence the strategic development of IS in the logistics sector and improve the effectiveness of decision-making regarding the supply chain’s operation.

It is now time to actually construct the reference models useful to guide the development of the strategic planning process, and it is necessary to recap some of the arguments and material gathered to date with a look at methodologies from information systems and some of the key elements promoted by them. There is first a description of a process reference model to give context to the development of the information architecture reference model needed to present the information to be contained in the plan. As will be seen, the two models are complementary and each gives strength to the other.

Abstract. Digitalization, enhanced storage capacities, and the Internet of Things increase the volume of data in modern organizations. To process and make use of these data and to avoid information overload, management information systems (MIS) are introduced that collect, process, and analyze relevant data. However, a precondition for the application of MIS is that users trust them. Extending accounts of trust in automation and trust in technology, we introduce a new model of trust in MIS that addresses the conceptual ambiguities of existing conceptualizations of trust and integrates initial empirical work in this field. In doing so, we differentiate between perceived trustworthiness of an MIS, experienced trust in an MIS, intentions to use an MIS, and actual use of an MIS. Moreover, we consider users’ perceived risks and contextual factors (e. g., autonomy at work) as moderators. The introduced model offers guidelines for future research and initial suggestions to foster trust-based MIS use.
