Kuantan Singingi Regency is one of the ruminant-producing districts in Riau Province. Koto Simandolak Village, located in Benai District, Kuantan Singingi Regency, the majority of the people work as farmers. Generally, farmers in Koto Simandolak Village cultivate livestock traditionally, namely by releasing them to the wild. This condition causes several problems including livestock manure, pollution of the village environment, and conflicts with residents. This problem can be solved if the farmer wants to keep the cattle. By holding cattle, the manure will be collected directly in the cage. Animal manure can be processed and used in biogas and organic fertilizer. The Research and Community Services Team of Universitas Riau saw the potential for utilizing livestock manure waste in Koto Simandolak Village. The Team conducts training and assistance in the installation of biogas reactors as well as training and mentoring in the biogas production process using livestock manure. Another output of biogas production is organic fertilizer. The ultimate goal of this service activity is to increase the income of the target community, namely through increasing livestock production, biogas production, and organic fertilizer production.

Can self-organizing special districts created from the bottom up be a tool for community change and development? Focusing on community services districts in California, this study introduces the context in which communities opt out of a county service system to reshape their governing structure for better representation. The empirical part measures their effectiveness, using single-family home sale prices as an impact metric. Leveraging multi-level difference-in-difference hedonic regression methods, the analysis shows that district formation increases the prices annually up to 16 percent, compared to both the surrounding and distant county service areas, indicating their efficacy as a tool for community change and development.

Abstract Background Adult day care centers (ADCCs) are a common service provided for frail older adults in the community. We examined the influence of older adults’ utilization of ADCC’s on their quality of life (QoL), and whether ethno-regional disparities are factors in the gaps found concerning QoL in different regions and between different ethnic groups. Methods Cross sectional data were collected through structured interviews with 360 older adults attending ADCCs. Participants represented three ethnic groups and three regions in Israel. QoL was assessed by SF-36 questionnaire. Results The results revealed a positive correlation between weekly hours at the ADCC, satisfaction with attending ADCC, and QoL. Older adults living in the central region had higher QoL than those living in the southern and northern regions. Veteran Israeli Jews reported higher QoL than FSU immigrants Israeli Arabs in all regions. Connection to one’s residential area was also correlated with QoL. A significant moderating effect of the interaction (ethnicity*area of residence) on QoL was also revealed. Conclusions Attending ADCC is a vital community services to promote QoL in later life. Gaps in ADCC utilization between ethnic groups and residential region may cause disparities in QoL, specifically, in minority groups and those living in peripheral regions. Service providers should minimize the disparities by improving accessibility and availability for each person regardless of ethnicity and region of residence.

Workplace violence (WPV) is more likely to affect those who work in community services, notably nurses. WPV is generally recognized as a workplace health hazard and has been a significant concern in a number of countries. Limited studies have been conducted in the global countries and this study was designed as a cross-sectional study from Saudi Arabia to document the WPV among the nurses. The aim of this study was to enroll the consequences obtain during the WPV among the nurses in Saudi Arabia. In this cross-sectional study, we have enrolled 550 nurses based on the signed of informed consent form and filled questionnaire. The study results indicated that 77.6% of nurses were violated at work. The 90.4% of the majority violations were classified as verbal abuse. The relatives of the patients violated 66.7% of the nurses, and the occurrence occurred during the evening shifts of the working hours between 2.30-10.30pm. The most violations occurred in the patient room, accounting for 46.8% of all violations, with the severe workload accounting for 89.2% of all violations. However, among the violations, 21.4% of the nurses were reported to senior management. In conclusion, this study confirms the nurses who have participated in this were mentally strong in handling the WPV during their job. Further studies are required for looking at the factors that increase the chance of a repeat event and those that decrease it, as well as development of an intervention program for the emotional load that accompanies WPV. To prevent workplace violence in healthcare settings, it is equally vital to implement policies that supplement the existing call to action.
