Technological advances in the 21st century raise the importance of the process of accessing and evaluating knowledge. Knowledge sharing is important in individual level as much as is in organizational level. Effective knowledge sharing among the members of an organization makes a positive impact on the realization of goals set by the organization. Knowledge sharing positively affects the performance of the employees who work to reach these goals. Moreover, in the study behaviors of the individuals communicating during the knowledge sharing process are classified as ethical and unethical. Increase in unethical behaviors decrease the effect of knowledge sharing on the employee performance. Unethical behaviors in an organization are classified as behaviors against shareholders, clients, suppliers, employees as well as against the public. This study examines the role of unethical behaviors on the effect of knowledge sharing on the employee performance in the organizational level.

Purpose The effect of empowering leadership on knowledge sharing is well defined, but factors that stimulate employees for knowledge sharing are still limited. Therefore, this study aims to address to what extent empowering leadership is desirable to create a trustful and fair environment that is conducive for an employee’s knowledge sharing. Design/methodology/approach Through integration of social exchange, equity and uncertainty management theories develop a moderating mediating model that links empowering leadership to knowledge sharing. Three-wave data collection from the sample of 375 managers–subordinates’ dyads was done in Pakistan textile industries. Findings Hierarchal regression analysis and bootstrapping method were applied to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that affective trust partially mediates the relationship between empowering leadership and knowledge sharing. More especially, the findings demonstrate that the relationship between empowering leadership and knowledge sharing becomes strong with high level of distributive and procedural justices. Practical implications This research study uses empowering leadership as a proposed motivational pathway for stimulating employee’s knowledge sharing through development of affective trust and buffering effect of distributive and procedural justices. Originality/value Most of previous research in knowledge sharing just cynosure organizational-level elements like leadership and organizational justices but deteriorate individual factors like trust. Therefore, this study will combine both organizational- and individual-level factors for urging employees for knowledge sharing.

Improving individual employee and organizational performance has been the main concern of many organizations for decades and several factors have also been studied as predictors of employee performance. However, the bulk of studies are mainly conducted in the private sector organizations with few attentions accorded to the public sector organizations, even though at present the difference between the two sectors is not much especially with introduction of privatization and New Public Management in the public sector. Drawing upon Social Exchange Theory and the application of Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS SEM), this study examined the mediating role of public service motivation on the relationship between job autonomy, communication practices and employee task and contextual performance. The participants were 288 senior staff of local governments in north-western part of Nigeria. The findings suggested that both job autonomy and communication practices predicted employee task and contextual performance. It was also found that public service motivation is an important mechanism (mediator) in the relationship.

Public sector universities are preliminary knowledge intensive and to stunt their information effective knowledge sharing among faculty is required. We focus on the faculty of public sector universities that share or limit knowledge sharing. Determining which factors promote, influence or impede sharing of knowledge in institutions constitute important avenues for exploration. This paper has focused on three such influences; “knowledge sharing” “organizational commitment” and “pay satisfaction”. In this regard, a conceptual model is developed in which pay satisfaction serves as mediator between knowledge sharing (KS) and organizational commitment (OC) among faculty members. Data determining the above mentioned variables is collected from 309 faculty members through standardized questionnaires. Data analysis reveals that KS has positive impact on OC and on Pay Satisfaction (PS). Furthermore, pay satisfaction mediates the relationship between KS and OC. This study recommends a KS culture and pay satisfaction of faculty to maintain and enhance level of commitment among faculty. As KS enable better and faster decision making, reduces the loss of know-how, enhances level of commitment and stimulate innovation and growth.

The purpose of the study was to test the relationship between openness to experience and knowledge sharing under the mediating effect of intention to share knowledge and moderating effects of interpersonal trust. The data were collected from employees working in the public sector in Pakistan, with the sample size of 185. The results indicated that openness to experience significantly and positively predict knowledge sharing among employees, although the results showed that intention to share the knowledge does not mediate the relationship between the two. Similarly, as per findings, interpersonal trust failed to moderate the relationship between intention to share knowledge and knowledge sharing. Implications of the study are also discussed which provide a way forward to decision makers in the organizations in finding how to use knowledge sharing in the contextual settings of Pakistan.

This study aims to investigate the role played by public governance in the relation between entrepreneurship and economic growth in the United Arab Emirates (henceforth UAE). To achieve its goals, the study used a time series that extends from (1996-2015), a span of 20 years. The study came up with the following results: there was a positive impact of entrepreneurship activities on the economic growth in UAE within the framework of the public governance. Based on the previous results, the study came up with a set of recommendations that focuses on supporting entrepreneurship activities that play a significant role in the economic growth.

Purpose This study aims to pay attention to the role of social contexts, including perceived relationship conflict and coworker support in creating an individualistic or collectivistic disposition, and how organization members differently behave to share knowledge depending on their personal dispositions. Design/methodology/approach The research model was set and PLS-SEM was used to validate the proposed eight hypotheses. A total of 462 survey data were collected from workers in Korea to test the model. Findings The findings revealed that both perceived relationship conflict and coworker support positively influence knowledge sharing intention by facilitating formation of individualism and collectivism orientation. In other words, individualism and collectivism are motivated by different factors, which applies equally to knowledge sharing. Originality/value This study makes an initial step to explain the relationship between knowledge sharing behavior and individualism–collectivism orientation by using social contexts as a potential antecedent. Especially, along with perceived co-worker support, perceived relationship conflict was also found to have a positive impact on knowledge sharing intention through individualism orientation, which is a significant contribution to the field of knowledge management.

This research studies the relationship between well-being and knowledge sharing. While user innovation has garnered greater attention in recent years, the market has failed to properly incentivize the diffusion of user innovations. This study proposes that this shortcoming could be resolved through a consumer-to-consumer (C-to-C) marketplace and sheds light on non-financial benefits for the contributors, specifically, how knowledge sharing impacts contributor well-being. This research consists of two online survey studies. In both studies, the level of well-being was compared between knowledge sharing contributors and a control group using a scale developed in positive psychology. This study empirically shows that participation in knowledge sharing has a significant positive impact on contributor well-being. In a C-to-C marketplace, contributors diffuse and monetize their creations themselves, resulting in increased well-being. Contributing to knowledge sharing may be a sufficient incentive for user innovators to diffuse their innovations. The findings of this study will gain significance as the utilization of personal knowledge increases due to the expansion of the C-to-C business and the paradigm shift in work style.

This study empirically investigates the less discussed catalytic effect of personality in the relationship of leadership style and employee thriving at work. The growth and sustainability of the organization is linked with the association of leadership style and employee thriving at the worplace. The objectives of this study are to explore the impact of authoritative and laissez-faire leadership styles and the moderating role of the personality trait of conscientiousness on thriving in the workplace. A sample of 312 participants was taken from a leading school system with its branches in Lahore and Islamabad, Pakistan. The participants either worked as managers, teachers in headquarters, or school campuses, respectively. The regression results of the study show that authoritative leadership and conscientiousness have a significantly positive impact on thriving at work. Furthermore, conscientiousness moderates the relationship between laissez-faire style of leadership and thriving at work relationship. The findings of this study have theoretical implications for authoritative and laissez-faire leadership, employee conscientiousness, and managerial applications for the practitioners.
