Happiness is a subjective assessment of individual wellbeing. Adolescents, especially secondary school students living in Islamic Boarding School, experience dramatic changes from learning at their dormitory with face-to-face teaching method to distance learning at home with minimum activities outside their houses. The survey was conducted on 111 respondents of students who had to return home due to the outbreaks of covid-19 pandemic for two months. The research found that the dramatic changes made them had difficulty to adapt new activities at home for a long time while studying independently through distance learning. Only a third of the sample felt happy during the online learning while the majority felt negative emotions such as boredom, unhappiness, and loneliness. The adolescents’ life satisfaction and community engagement significantly correlated with happiness although the size effects were medium. Female students also had lower happiness variables than males. To maintain their happiness, during the pandemic, most of them prefer activities that mostly trigger a sedentary lifestyle.

The challenges proposed by the knowledge society requires a change of mentality and routines of our students. Consequently, a shift is also needed in the role played by teachers in their education. 34 secondary school teachers from three Spanish high schools, from Ceuta, Madrid and Asturias, working as part of a network, began to introduce project-based learning (PBL) and cooperative learning to facilitate this change. We analyze the correlations between the beliefs and the attitudes of teachers when they were initiating a methodological transition in their patterns of teaching. At the same time, we compare the competencies and strategies related with PBL that 372 secondary school students from these high schools consider being personally important with those who they believe necessary to improve their learning or to be successful with academic requirements.

This study examined the effect of the constructivist method on junior secondary school students’ achievement in poetry in Nigeria. Sixty junior secondary class-two students participated in the study. The instrument used was a questionnaire developed by the researchers. The experiment consisted of 12 weeks of full intervention and 6 weeks of follow-up meetings. The study used repeated-measures ANOVA to see the achievement level in poetry of each participant across control and treatment groups post intervention. Results show a significant effect for the constructivist method on achievement in poetry among students in the treatment group compared to the control group. They also show that the effect of the constructivist method on students’ achievement in poetry is not determined by gender. The implications for research and practice are discussed in accordance with these outcomes. The researchers conclude by emphasizing the importance of a follow-up study in the Nigerian context that would make the teaching method more robust through the use of the constructivist method for high academic achievement and improved school counseling.

This article assesses the effect of multimedia instructions on the academic performance of secondary and higher secondary school students in a developing country. The total sample size was 600, and the respondents were the secondary and higher secondary school students of Bangladesh. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires. Finally, data analysis was performed using a two stage structural equations modelling approach. As per the study results, communicative and interactive class atmosphere (CIC), motivational teaching method (MTM), memorizable study materials (MSM), organized class lecture (OLC) of multimedia instruction have directly positive relationship with academic performance of secondary and higher secondary students. The findings of the current research applies to policy makers, school administrators, researchers, as well as academicians. This research presented a conceptual model which has been examined and validate of a developing country. The outcomes suggested both theoretical and practical implications.

Abstract - With the current needs of shaping 21st-century classroom in schools, the use of technology has now become compulsory for teachers to incorporate in the classroom. The exposure to technology is highly necessary for the current generation to prepare them for the future ahead. Digital storytelling is one of the tools available in the market for learning. There is no much research yet found in Malaysia that investigates the usefulness of the digital storytelling in promoting secondary school students’ writing skills. Therefore, this research tries to implement one digital storytelling tool in teaching Writing for English Form 1 and tries to identify the elements of digital storytelling tool that might be able to promote students’ writing skills. This research involved fifteen Form 1 students. The data was collected through four (4) time series tests in a pre-experimental research study. The students’ performance in each treatment were marked according to the Rubrics to Assess Digital Stories and were analysed using Friedman Ranks Test. The finding shows that there is an improvement in students’ performance after four treatments of using the Digital Storytelling tools. For the elements of digital storytelling tool that affected after using the digital storytelling tool, the student respondents always applied six elements: ‘Overall Purpose of the Story’, ‘Dramatic Questions’, ‘Choice of Content’, ‘Pacing of the Narrative’, ‘Quality of the Images’ and ‘Good Grammar and Language Usage’. Furthermore, there is an improvement in student respondents’ post-test marks after four treatments of using Storybird. The study shows a relationship between elements of digital storytelling tool in the four treatments and students’ writing performance in post-test. All of the elements shows a significant relationship with students’ writing performance except for ‘Dramatic Questions’.

Physics has continued to generate favorable commendation in the educational landscape of every society in the modern-day world. However, the concern about the increasing decline in students performance and the growing purported difficulties associated with the subject has continued to attract research attention. There are intimations that secondary school students in rural communities are more likely to commit less effort to science subjects. Thus, the primary purpose of this study was to investigate cooperative instructional strategy as a well-researched teaching method that could also improve students commitment to physics. Two hundred and nineteen secondary school students in the rural communities in Kogi State, Nigeria, enrolled in the science classes participated in the study. A quasi-experimental pre-test, post-test research design was employed for the study. The participants were grouped into two different groups for the pre-test and post-test analyses. The experimental group was exposed to the cooperative instructional teaching method, while the control group was taught conventionally. An independent-samples t-test was performed to determine differences between the observed and the control groups on a commitment to physics in the post-test study with a statistically significant MD= 10.85, t (117) = 20.026, p = .001. It was concluded that cooperative instructional strategy enhances students commitment to physics. The study recommends robust training of teachers on the use of collaborative instructional strategies.
