The purpose of this paper is to do a comprehensive analysis of Cloud based Big Data challenges and opportunity for SMEs in India. Big Data (BD) are big buzz words, and many large enterprises are making significant advances in their product development, customer relations, and increasing profitability by targeting specific customers. Therefore, it has generated interest for both the academic and industry world as it has the potential to enhance the decision making process by providing valuable insights. The large organisations are benefiting from using BD as a tool to gain a competitive edge over rivals by driving new revenue streams and improving internal operational efficiency. The large organisations are already investing as well leveraging BD. On the contrary, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in India are slow adopters of new technologies due to many factors and pose to lose their competitive edge on the world stage. SMEs can also leverage BD to gain a strategic competitive advantage but are resource poor in terms of investment in manpower and financial resources. Major challenges still exist in the adoption of BD especially in information technology architecture. Cloud Computing (CC) can eliminate the need to maintain expensive computing hardware, software, and networking resources. CC can also provide a solution to scalability issues, high speed performance, and fault tolerance for using BD. With CC usage, SMEs can take advantage of BD without significant investment in information technology and manpower. This research uses secondary data as a research data collection technique, which is its limitation. However, a quantitative research methodology using statistical surveys is planned to be conducted in the near future to understand the factors impacting on the adoption of Cloud based Big Data for Indian SMEs. This paper contributes to exploring and enhancing the understanding of the challenges and opportunities for SMEs in India for adopting BD. This study will also have both industrial implications for practitioners in India, as well as those in other developing countries, and academic implications for researchers who are interested in BD adoption in developing countries. Keywords: Cloud Computing (CC), Big Data (BD), Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Challenges, Opportunities, India.

The pillar goals of this research are to review the conditions of MSMEs, their contribution to employment creation, income generation, poverty alleviation, contributions to the local, regional and national GDP, stimulating entrepreneurial climate and the challenges and opportunities in the design, implementations, marketing opportunities, linkages, financial sources, dynamics, survival and policy landscape. To achieve the presented purposes, we collected primary and secondary data through a survey, focus group discussions and documents reviews. We used qualitative and quantitative approaches to analyse the collected data using various statistical programs. We used descriptive and econometric statistical analysis to process the data, obtain the relevant estimation results and fully discuss the purposes under the study. We firmly maintain that the systems we presented, and the methods applied enabled us to tackle the aims of the study. MSMEs in Ethiopian are the chief sources of job, income, significantly contribute to the local, regional and national GDP and key policies to eliminate poverty. In the log-linear regression, we found that MSMEs initial capital, BDS, access to credit facility are the key determinants of MSMEs performance. Majority of the MSMEs produce for local and regional markets; few for national markets and none for international markets. Besides, we found that sex of MSMEs owner/manager, BDS, access to credit and capital size strongly determine the survival of MSMEs. Based on this study, the major obstacles of MSMEs in Ethiopia are the question of sustainability, lack of credit, weak market linkage, insufficient training, weak human resources development schemes, dependency on government and spoon-feeding mentality, oscillations in government policies, price variations, weak links and poor market and product development strategies.

This work empirically analyzes the competitive factors that help make micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) successful. To do this, an empirical study with a sample of 614 companies in Guanajuato, Mexico, has been carried out. The results of the binary logistic regression analysis show that quality, technology, and innovation are the main variables that determine a company’s success. These findings could provide guidelines to help MSMEs improve their competitiveness, and they could help public administrations better support MSME growth.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the main determinants of growth in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in India. The empirical research has suggested that firm growth is determined not only by the traditional characteristics of size and age but also by other firm-specific factors such as indebtedness, internal financing, future growth opportunities, process and product innovation, and organisational changes. No empirical evidence has been provided so far on which of these determining factors are associated with SMEs growth and performance in India. Using a panel dataset of 560 fast growing small and medium enterprises from India the author finds evidence that firm size and age can explain to a large extend the growth in SMEs in India. Firm specific characteristics such as short-term liquidity, future growth opportunities, internally generated funds, and factor productivity are found to be important factors in determining a firm's growth and performance. Economy-wide factors such as inflation and corporate income tax rate (but not gross domestic product) seem to have a significant effect on SMEs growth in India.

Use of Information Technology (IT) at the functional level by the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is a recent phenomenon. Moreover, IT adaptation by the SMEs in India is at an emerging phase. As investments in IT continue to grow, SMEs managers’ awareness of the need to derive the value of IT is also increasing. Research has shown that SME managers are increasingly adopting new IT technologies in all aspects of business activities. On the backdrop, this research intends to measure information technology capability (ITC) in SMEs in Rajasthan state. ITC is a firm’s ability to acquire, deploy, and leverage its IT related resources in combination with other resources in order to achieve business objectives through IT implementation. The paper identifies four dimensions, viz. IT infrastructure, IT architecture, IT human resource, and IT relationship resource, in an effort to measure the ITC construct. To accomplish the above objective a sample of 193 SMEs have been surveyed through a pre-tested questionnaire. Results suggest that model fit statistics are reasonably acceptable and IT human resource as a significant contributor to the ITC construct followed by IT architecture. The study may help the firms to leverage technology to differentiate them from competition. SME managers and entrepreneurs will be able to develop a clear understanding of the critical components of ITC and their role in supporting and shaping business strategy.
