Transport has a great impact on human activities but contributes to many negative phenomena occurring in road traffic, for example, road traffic accidents, emission of toxic exhaust fumes into the atmosphere and a high share of cars in road traffic. For the above reasons, many initiatives have been taken in the field of road traffic management and urban logistics. Based on a literature review, it was found that the problem of the phenomenon of traffic congestion in urban areas remains an ongoing issue. In the first part of this article, the theoretical issues of traffic flow and congestion formation in the city road networks were presented. While the second part outlines the situation of transport congestion in 10 Polish cities based on the worldwide TomTom Traffic Index in the years 2008-2018. This study is a brief analysis of the trends relating to transport congestion based on the TomTom Traffic Index in these cities.

Road traffic accidents in Bangladesh have been rapidly increasing with huge mortality through road accidents each year. There are many causes of road accidents in recent years; one important cause is running of locally made improvised three wheelers (flat bed tricycle) in the urban areas and also on the highways, popularly known as 'Nasimon' and 'Karimon'. This prospective study was carried out in Faridpur Medical College Hospital from January through June 2011, to study the accident patients caused by 'Nasimon' and 'Karimon'. Fifty six (12%) patients were of RTA by 'Nasimon' and 'Karimon' out of a total of 468 patients admitted into our hospital during this period. Most patients (41, 73.21%) were male, highest accidents (24, 42.86%) were observed among 21-30 years age group and most victims (33, 58.93%) were belonged to low socioeconomic status. Commonest (31, 55.36%) victims were passengers of 'Nasimon' and 'Karimon' while maximum number of accidents (46, 82.14%) took place in the urban areas and on the highways. Injury pattern of victims were similar to that found in any other road accident patients. These three wheelers 'Nasimon' and 'Karimon' are run in violating of Bangladesh Motor Vehicles Act (1983) as they are totally unfit for plying on the highways. Strict surveillance against these illegal and risky vehicles on the highways and in the urban areas by law enforcing agencies is required as a measure to reduce the burden of road accidents in our country.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/fmcj.v7i1.10289Faridpur Med. Park-and-ride is a traffic management method of traffic congestion problem in urban areas. As an extent of total demand management, park-and-ride service (P&R service) has broadly implemented in many countries. P&R service has proven to be progressive in alleviating traffic congestion despite of complication in finding parking spaces in the city centers. The objective of this research is to discuss a model to shift car travelers’ to park-and-ride service (P&R service) and to investigate the factors which influence car travelers’ behavior. This study can support policy makers’ with useful information for future planning and development of park-and-ride service. Research outcomes will support policy-making and provide base for future study on modal choice behavior model for park-and-ride service.

Background: Traffic accidents are unpredictable events when they occurred. Thus, understanding the risk factors in road traffic injuries is needed.Objective: This study aims to analyze the risk factors in road traffic accidents in the city of Palu.Methods: This was an observational analytic study using case-control approach with sample of 182 respondents consisting of 91 cases and 91 controls. Purposive sampling was used based on a certain considerations made by the researchers themselves. Data were tested with Odds Ratio and analyzed by univariate and bivariate with a confidence level of 95%.Results: The results showed that the scatterbrained factor (OR = 3.180 95% CI 1.669 to 6.059), undisciplined behavior (OR = 11.990 at 95% CI 5.956 to 24.138), exceeding speed limit (OR = 4.230 95% CI 2.204 to 8.118 ), and no driving license (OR = 10.455 at 95% CI 5.274 to 20.722).Conclusion: This study concludes that the scatterbrained factor, undisciplined behavior, exceeding the speed limit, and no driving license are the risk factors for road traffic accidents in the city of Palu. It is recommended that all parties to cooperate with the good for the sake of safety and driving safety as well as prevention of road traffic accidents.

As cities across the world grow and the mobility of populations increases, there has also been a corresponding increase in the number of vehicles on roads. The result of this has been a proliferation of challenges for authorities with regard to road traffic management. A consequence of this has been congestion of traffic, more accidents, and pollution. Accidents are a still major cause of death, despite the development of sophisticated systems for traffic management and other technologies linked with vehicles. Hence, it is necessary that a common system for accident management is developed. For instance, traffic congestion in most urban areas can be alleviated by the real-time planning of routes. However, the designing of an efficient route planning algorithm to attain a globally optimal vehicle control is still a challenge that needs to be solved, especially when the unique preferences of drivers are considered. The aim of this paper is to establish an accident management system that makes use of vehicular ad hoc networks coupled with systems that employ cellular technology in public transport. This system ensures the possibility of real-time communication among vehicles, ambulances, hospitals, roadside units, and central servers. In addition, the accident management system is able to lessen the amount of time required to alert an ambulance that it is required at an accident scene by using a multihop optimal forwarding algorithm. Moreover, an optimal route planning algorithm (ORPA) is proposed in this system to improve the aggregate spatial use of a road network, at the same time bringing down the travel cost of operating a vehicle. This can reduce the incidence of vehicles being stuck on congested roads. Simulations are performed to evaluate ORPA, and the results are compared with existing algorithms. The evaluation results provided evidence that ORPA outperformed others in terms of average ambulance speed and travelling time. Finally, our system makes it easier for ambulance to quickly make their way through traffic congestion so that the chance of saving lives is increased.

An analysis of the accident rate in the city of Saratov, places of concentration of road traffic accidents showed the need to install photo and video cameras. The assessment of the most emergency areas in Saratov and the experience of installing photo and video cameras in such areas has shown high efficiency.

Recent statistics on the main causes of road traffic accidents and subsequently the main causes of victims’ injuries which may ultimately lead to fatalities, indicate that within urban areas the first place is occupied by prohibited road-crossing, accounting for over 20% of the causes for road traffic accidents. Hence, one of the major direct consequences arising is the severe injury of the pedestrians-up to their fatalities-due to prohibited road crossing through unauthorized places. Thus, the present paper underpins a research study on the vehicle-pedestrian collision, based on a statistical analysis of the pedestrian model, most frequently involved in road traffic accidents. The statistical analysis will be then reinforced by a theoretical study regarding this type of collision. In order to validate the mathematical model, applied to determine the projection throw distance of a pedestrian, we have also proposed a virtual simulation of the vehicle - pedestrian collision, described within the last section of the present research paper.

INTRODUCTION: In the city of Belgrade pedestrians are under the high risk to sustain injuries in the road traffic accidents, they are often with multiple injuries, with long-term treatment and significant consequences. Most of them are in the senior or in the school age group. METHODS: We present the results of the epidemiological analysis of the mechanism of injury and treatment outcome of the pedestrians who sustained the lower limb injuries and additional, the injuries of the other organic systems. We also analyzed the relevant data about the moment of the collision. RESULTS: Regarding the gender, male were significant more injured, in the senior age of life. Patients with multiple injuries, especially with the pelvic injuries or injuries of more than two systems were significant more likely to have a fatal outcome. CONCLUSION: The pedestrians are the most vulnerable group in road traffic accidents. Thus, we need to make actions on two levels: appropriate environment conditions and effective prehospital and hospital treatment.
