We report the strong coupling between plasmonic surface lattice resonances (SLRs) and photonic Fabry-Pérot (F-P) resonances in a microcavity embedded with two-dimensional periodic array of metal-insulator-metal nanopillars. For such a plasmonic-photonic system, we show that the SLR can be strongly coupled to the F-P resonances of both the odd- and even orders, and that the splitting energy reaches as high as 138 meV in the visible regime. We expect that this work will provide a new scheme for strong coupling between plasmonic and photonic modes.

We fabricated two-dimensional (2D) arrays of metal–insulator–metal (MIM) plasmonic nanoislands designed to efficiently shuttle hot plasmonic electrons. These MIM nanostructures exhibit higher catalytic activity under light irradiation, revealing a significant impact on the catalytic activity for CO oxidation.

We investigate the strong coupling phenomenon between a circular cavity and a rectangular cavity based on a metal–insulator–metal (MIM) structure. Finite difference time domain method is employed to well describe the strong coupling phenomenon and the simulation results show that two splitting peaks are observed in our proposed structure, while only one resonant peak is found in MIM structure involving only a circular cavity. The coupling between the circular cavity and the rectangular cavity is manipulated by the geometry of the cavities and the symmetry of the whole structure. An asymmetric lineshape of the transmission spectrum is observed with a narrow linewidth and a deep valley, which has potential applications in plasmon sensor.
