The aim of this study was to determine the effect of learning techniques and self confidence of students' speaking skills in Indonesian discussion. This research was conducted on the students of the 107th class of the 17th National Senior High School Palembang in 2017 by using factorial experimental design technique 2 x 2. Type of research conducted is experiment technique analysis which was used Analysis of variance (ANAVA) two ways at level of significance 0,05.The results of this study indicated that mind mapping techniques were more effective than problem-based learning techniques, and then there was an interaction effect betweenStudents' speaking skill in Indonesian discussions by using mind mapping technique and students learning by using problem-based techniques, probability values ​​M_learning (0.795) Ë‚0.05. The mean value of learning with mind mapping technique is greater than the average value of learning with problem-based technique (84.89) Ë‚ (80.89).

The study deals with the developing interactive media for senior high school students. The objective of this study is to find out how to develop interactive media for better speaking skill of senior high school students. The research was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D). The subject of this research was 2016/2017 students of the eleventh grade of Class XI IPA4 in SMAN 1 Batang Kuis. The number of the students was 30 students. The data of this study was collected by using need analysis questionnaire and experts’ judgment. Need analysis questionnaire was calculated by using percentage to get the information of students’ need before developing interactive media. Experts’ judgment was calculated by using likert data, mean and criteria interval of expert judgment to know the validity of interactive media which has been developed. After the data analyzed, it was found that the experts’ judgment result was 4.80 which had a very good criteria interval. The result of the research find that interactive media is a very good to be used in teaching speaking skill.

This study aims to investigate the motivation of senior high school students at 11st grade in reading and writing English texts, especially narrative text.� The study also explores the insight toward the use of mind mapping and cooperative integrated reading and writing in nurturing students� interest and motivation in writing narrative text. The study used qualitative case study to learn and pay attention to phenomena that the students� motivation in reading and writing narrative text are needed to be nurtured. There were 36 students of 11st grade in senior high school in Bandung were involved in this study. Questionnaire and interview were given to the students. The results show that the students who show positive view toward reading and writing narrative texts are 74% students. They interest and willingness in making mind mapping of the narrative, because they know that narratives texts are full of information and moral value. While only 26% students who seem force to read and write narratives text to compose mind mapping. Eventually, integrating reading and composition in the classroom can nurture their reading interest and increase their willingness to read narrative text. Since, many students can understand the moral value of the narrative text through discussing with their friends at the class and making a mind mapping through cooperative learning about the narrative text is very useful to develop their mind.

This study concerns with improvement of students’ achievement in writing recount text through mind mapping technique in Junior High School. The subject of the study was the students in SMP Free Methodist 1 Medan, class VIII-1 which consisted of 37 students. This study was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research. The procedure of this research was done in two cycles in six meeting. The mean of students’ score in test I was 67.24. It was increased in test II to 72.78 and in test III, it became 78.79. The improvement was not only showed in the mean of the students’ score but also in the number of students who got point up to 75. In test I, the number of students who got point up to 75 was only 5.4%. In test II, the number was increased to 29.8% while in test III it became 81.1%. Based on the diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that the students gave good responds in the teaching and learning process. Based on the result of quantitative and qualitative data, it can be concluded that the application of mind mapping technique had improved the junior high school students’ achievement in writing recount text.   Keywords: Writing, Recount Text, Mind Mapping, Junior High School

For vocational high school graduates to be accepted in business and industry, increasing the ability to use international languages, one of which is English is one of the main goals. Thus, the purpose of this community service is to train the students in understanding presentations appropriately. While the particular objectives are: 1) Improve the knowledge of strategies of writing and presentations in English well; 2) Enrich English vocabulary; 3) Improve writing and speaking skill; 4) Increase self-confidence, and 5) Prepare them to become professional graduates in terms of mastering English. There are thirty students of 12th grade of SMKN 56 North Jakarta participating in this training. The training was conducted within 12 hours, which was divided into three sessions for two days. At each meeting, students were monitored and practiced under the trainers’ guidance. The trainers also showed two examples of good presentations on YouTube. The training techniques are the lecture, discussion, brainstorming, and demonstration / direct practice that train students to understand every step by step in presentation and writing. The results show that students’ self-confidence developed, and vocabulary mastery, writing, and presentation skills increased as well. Out of 30 students, 5 participants delivered a presentation without reading the text. Although the results were not significant, the students had active participation in the discussion and practiced in groups and gave the speech in public. The evaluation result was 38.79 of a 1-4 scale with an excellent category. It is concluded that this training is highly needed and useful for vocational students.
