In recent years, intensive research on urban transport has been observed. The search is about finding such solutions that will enable, among others: increasing the importance of public transport, matching transport for the needs of people with reduced mobility, increasing capacity, reducing emissions, energy efficiency (technical and organizational dimension through the organization of transport on demand), increasing the vulnerability to recycling and remanufacturing. The paper presents the main concept and technical solutions of the innovative transport system – HMASSUT Prometheus (Hybrid Modular Autonomous System for Sustainable Urban Transport), which combines the concepts of personal rapid transport and an electric vehicle at the L4 autonomy level (according to the Society of Automotive Engineers classification). An assessment of the effectiveness of an innovative transport system using indicators used in road engineering is given in the paper. The concept of simulation and optimization of the transport network is presented together with the theory of cellular automata.

The transport system comes along with a broad range of sustainability issues, including environmental, social and economic stability of the transportation. As we are going through a new development paradigm with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), therefore, our urban transport system should now be “green”, that requires an alignment with the core purposes of several stakeholder groups. The study explores the stand point of the situation in the context of rapid urbanization and addresses the components of our urban transport systems. The study follows a qualitative approach to find out the possible answer considering the daily transport experiences of city dwellers. Urban transport system is considered as the study experimental unit and a sample of four Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) conducted within four groups of urban citizens-adult male, female, older and younger. Finally, the study experiences illustrate with many technical and non-technical strategic solutions, which might be implemented in the context of poor road infrastructure, technology, people’s desires, capital intensive nature and the overall the good governing system. With different approaches towards greening the transport system, research concludes that the non-technical review is more important and quicker solution than the technical solutions for Dhaka city.

The urban transport system is one of the key elements influencing the improvement of human communication. The availability and organization of transport infrastructure definitely affects the comfort of living, especially in large cities. In recent times there is a lot of topics about transport conditions and its negative impact on the environment, as well as about the implementation of low-emission vehicles. The article presents selected problems of low-emission transport as well as the occurrence of transport in selected countries.

Subway plays an important role in urban transport system. Fire as the major risk of the subway, is gaining increasing concern. In this study, fire simulation is performed to estimate fire safety of different compartments of the subway train. Result shows that the two compartments in the middle become dangerous at 150s and the compartments in the two ends are not safe at 300s approximately. The other two compartments are always safe during the simulation time.

Green transport is a concept to build a comprehensive urban transport system, which aims to reduce traffic congestion and energy consumption, promoting a more friendly environment and saving building maintenance costs. From the perspective of urban design, this paper focuses on how to integrate green transport into urban design and discusses the implementation strategy of green transport.
