Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of autotransplantation of a mature third molar to a fresh molar extraction socket using a 3D replica. Materials and Methods Ten patients underwent autotransplantation of teeth. We observed the mobility, percussion, radiography examination, the probing depth and the masticatory function of the transplanted teeth during one year following up, which were transplanted into fresh molar sockets by using a 3D replica, and GBR when it is necessary. Results The average extra-oral time of donor tooth had been shortened to 1.65 min. The clinical examination of the autotransplantation teeth during one year follow-up showed no sign of failure. Expect one patient feel slight sensitive when chewing with soft food at 4 weeks, and 3 points of probing depth deeper at different patients than 3mm and 1 points of probing depth deeper than 4mm at 4 weeks among them, and 1 points of probing depth deeper than 3mm at 5 weeks at the same patient. Conclusions The autotransplantation of teeth using 3D replica is an effective method which can reduce the extra-oral time of the donor teeth and the demand for the experience of a surgeon, and had a high success rate. Clinical Relevance The new 3D replica of donor tooth can make the surgery of tooth autotransplantation much easier, and improve it success rate.

Aim: Study aimed to test whether implants inserted in posterior mandible sites augmented with screw-guided bone regeneration (S-GBR) technique differ from implants placed in non-grafted sites regarding the success and survival rate. Materials and Methods: 20 edentulous patients (mean age 59.45 ± 15.220) were divided in a test group (S-GBR) (immediate implants placed simultaneously with grafting procedures) and control group (implants placed in naturally healed sites). Primary outcomes (implants success; implants survival) and secondary outcomes (clinical parameters of soft tissues: mPI; mGI; probing depth; keratinized mucosa; marginal-bone-level) were evaluated at 24-months follow-up. Results: Plaque levels were higher (p = 0.046) in S-GBR group (0.97 ± 0.882 mm) when compared with control (0.66 ± 0.695 mm). Keratinized mucosa width was higher in S-GBR group (4.13 ± 1.033 mm) than control (3.34 ± 0.821 mm) (p = 0.000) Probing depth (PD) width was higher in S-GBR group (3.50 ± 1.372 mm) than control (2.56 ± 1.332 mm) (p = 0.000). mGI was higher among implants placed in S-GBR group (0.90 ± 1.020 mm) than control (0.56 ± 0.794 mm) (p = 0.061). The difference between the average bone loss (MBL) for implants placed in grafted sites (Group S-GBR: 2.20 ± 1.867 mm) and for those placed in naturally healed sites (Group B: 1.09 ± 1.678 mm) was statistically significant (p = 0.000). The overall implant success rate after 24-month follow-up was 76.7% in S-GBR group and 90.6% in control group (p = 0.001). The survival rate after 24-month follow-up was 86.7% in S-GBR group and 93.8% in control group (p = 0.182). The reconstruction of the alveolar bone using S-GBR technique and immediate implant placement is a valid guided bone regeneration strategy for mandibular alveolar bone with severe horizontal resorption. The choice of S-GBR technique should be based on specific indications as implants placed in grafted sites recorded worse marginal success rate, survival rate and bone resorption than those placed in non-grafted sites.

Utilizing airflow therapy, Schwartz (1976) has claimed an 89% success rate with stutterers following treatment and an 83% success rate at one year follow-up. Such claims have yet to be documented in the scientific literature. The purposes of this study were: (a) to investigate the effectiveness of a modified version of airflow therapy; (b) to examine the relative importance of its two main components—passive airflow and elongation of the first vowel spoken. The speech of two adult male stutterers with a lengthy history of stuttering, was assessed with spontaneous speaking and reading tasks. Results indicated marked improvement in both subjects' speech on the reading task was maintained at follow-up 10 weeks later. For spontaneous speech, results were generally weaker and less durable. Effects of the two treatment components were cumulative and did not allow determination of any differential effectiveness between components. Implications of these findings were considered and directions for future research discussed.

A retrospective study on 15 non-vital immature incisor teeth was done using Ca(OH)2 Pulpdent® paste. A success rate of 100 percent was achieved within one year. The variables influencing the time taken for apexification were also evaluated. The teeth were followed up to a period of 24 months. It was found that older children having narrow open apex had a shorter treatment time than the younger children (NS); teeth without periapical infection showed some amount of root growth and closing of apex that was faster than those with periapical infection (p<0.001). The calcified bridge formed following apexification is a porous structure. This investigation provides information about the time taken and procedure required to achieve apical barrier formation in non-vital immature incisors.

Abstract Objective: Facial palsy may still occur after removal of large vestibular schwannomas. The aim of this paper is to describe the outcome of patients submitted to facial reanimation and make a concise revision about modern techniques available to reanimate a paralyzed face. Methods: A retrospective study of was performed about the surgical results of 12 patients submitted to hypoglossal-facial neurorrhaphy. These patients were submitted to radical removal of large vestibular schwannomas (> 3 cm) before and anatomic preservation of the facial nerve was not possible. Results: In 10 cases (83%) patients had a good outcome with House-Brackmann facial grading III. In two other cases the facial grading was IV and VI. All patients were follow-up for at least one year after the reanimation procedure. Conclusion: Hypoglossal-facial neurorrhaphy is a very useful technique to restore facial symmetry and minimize the sequela of a paralyzed face. Long last palsy seemed to be the main reason of poor outcome in two cases.

Introduction. To evaluate outcomes of wide-diameter (6 mm) implants immediately provisionalized with cement-retained single crowns in posterior molar sites.Materials and Methods. Forty-eight consecutive patients received a total of 53 moderately rough-surface, 6 mm diameter implants in healed sites. All implants were immediately provisionalized with a cement-retained provisional crown. Final prosthesis with cement-retained porcelain fused to metal crowns was delivered 3–6 months later. Patients were followed up for 1 year. Outcome measures were implant failures and success rate, complications, marginal bone levels, bone level changes, papilla index, bleeding on probing, and inflammation.Results. One patient was lost to follow-up. At one year, the implant survival and success rate were 98.1%. The mean marginal bone loss after 1 year was −0.17±1.84 mm. Ideal papilla score was recorded at 83.8% of the sites. More than 95.6% of the sites showed no bleeding or inflammation. No procedure-related or device-related adverse events were reported.Conclusion. Wide-diameter (6 mm) implants can safely and successfully replace single posterior molars. Longer follow-up studies are necessary to evaluate the long-term success of these implants.
