Abstract Background: Invasive mucinous carcinoma is a very rare tumor. The colonic metast-asis of IMA is more infrequent. So far, no literatures are published. Case presentation: We report a case of a patient with invasive mucinous adenocarci-noma. After serial months of chemitherapy, the sigmoid colonic metastasis was detected. Conclusions: Symptoms and CT findings can initially be subtle, histological examination remains the gold standard for the definitive diagnosis. Patients with high grade primary lung cancer may have gastrointestinal metastases, therefore their gastrointestinal should be examined to allow early detection and treatment.

Worldwide, lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer, and lobectomy is the gold-standard treatment for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, many patients are poor surgical candidates for various reasons. Recently, image-guided ablation is being used for lung tumors. Cryoablation has been applied for the treatment of cancer in various nonaerated organs; recently it has been adapted to the treatment of lung tumors. Since an ice ball can be detected by computed tomography (CT), cryoablation of lung tumors is performed under CT guidance. Its first clinical application was reported in 2005, and it has been reported to be feasible in a few studies. Minor complications occurred at a high frequency (up to 70.5%), but major complications were rare (up to 1%). The most common complication is pneumothorax, and most cases need no further intervention. Local efficacy depends on tumor size and presence of a thick vessel close to the tumor. Midterm survival after cryoablation is 77%–88% at 3 years in patients with early-stage NSCLC. Although surgery is the gold-standard treatment for such patients, the initial results of cryoablation are promising. In this paper, the current status of cryoablation for primary lung tumors is reviewed.

The colon is an uncommon secondary site for metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma. Distinguishing primary colonic carcinoma from metastatic spread of lung carcinoma can be difficult. We present a case of a patient with lung adenocarcinoma who, on abdominal computed tomography scan examination, was found to have a sigmoid tumor that was thought to represent a synchronous primary colorectal adenocarcinoma. Histological examination of endoscopic sigmoid tumor biopsies confirmed this to be metastasis from the lung adenocarcinoma. The patient subsequently developed major rectal bleeding and deteriorated significantly. This case also illustrates the poor prognosis association with colorectal metastasis of lung cancer.

We encountered a case of primary lung cancer complicated with membranous nephropathy as primary nephrotic syndrome. Because treatment approaches vary greatly for primary and secondary nephrotic syndrome, a renal biopsy was performed for diagnosis. Much time was required to make a definitive diagnosis of primary nephrotic syndrome, as opposed to paraneoplastic nephrotic syndrome. Consequently, the subsequent chemotherapy was ineffective and caused significant toxicity due to reduced performance status (PS) and progression of hypoalbuminemia. Therefore, it is imperative that a diagnosis be made and treatment be initiated without delay before PS declines and hypoalbuminemia progresses.

Gastrointestinal metastases from lung cancer are rare and usually asymptomatic. We report a case of small bowel metastases from primary lung cancer revealed by abdominal pain and severe recurrent anaemia. The diagnosis was obtained with capsule endoscopy. This non-invasive procedure thus represents a valuable method contributing to a rapid and detailed diagnosis while reducing underdiagnosis, and it should thus be considered for lung cancer patients complaining of abdominal symptoms, which may indeed be related to gastrointestinal metastases.
