In der Arbeit werden historische und aktuelle Funde von Hausfliegen der Familien Fanniidae und Muscidae auf den Inseln der Tristan da Cunha-Gruppe im Südatlantik zusammengefaßt und diskutiert. Das aktuelle Material wurde 2005 auf den nördlichen Inseln, Tristan da Cunha und Nightingale, gesammelt. Insgesamt sind fünf Arten in vier Gattungen nachgewiesen, einschließlich der Erstnachweise von Fannia albitarsis Stein, 1911 innerhalb des Archipels und von Muscina stabulans (Fallén, 1817) auf der Insel Nightingale. Die korrekte taxonomische Einordnung von Coenosia trina Wiedemann, 1830 wird diskutiert. Auf den beiden Inseln Tristan da Cunha und Nightingale im Südatlantik wurden mit Malaisefallen Trauermücken (Diptera: Sciaridae) gesammelt. Im Ergebnis dessen konnten 4 Arten nachgewiesen werden, von denen Lycoriella sativae (Johannsen, 1912) aus der Literatur schon bekannt war. Drei andere – Bradysia tilicola (Loew, 1850), Hyperlasion viridiventris (Frey, 1945) und Pseudolycoriella setigera (Hardy, 1960) – werden zum ersten Mal von dem Archipel gemeldet. Zur Zeit sind 8 Spezies von der Inselgruppe bekannt. Diese gehören zu den Gattungen Bradysia Winnertz (3 Spezies), Cosmosciara Frey (1), Hyperlasion Schmitz (1), Lycoriella Frey (2) und Pseudolycoriella Menzel & Mohrig (1). Von den 7 namentlich bekannten Trauermücken-Arten des Archipels wurden die männlichen Genitalstrukturen abgebildet. Von Hyperlasion viridiventris (Frey) existierten bisher nur die schlecht erhaltenen Typ­exemplare von den Azoren. Auf der Basis des neuen Materials werden die Männchen und Weibchen redeskribiert. Außerdem wird eine Übersicht über die bis heute bekannt gewordenen Sciaridenfunde von der Inselgruppe gegeben. The resurrection of trans-oceanic dispersal is the most striking aspect of a major shift in historical biogeography toward a more even balance between vicariance and dispersal explanations. Molecular dating of lineage divergences favors oceanic dispersal over tectonic vicariance as an explanation for disjunct distributions in a wide variety of taxa. Although many oceanic islands harbor a disproportionately high biodiversity and number of endemic taxa, the chironomid fauna of the South Atlantic islands of Gough, Nightingale and Tristan da Cunha apparently consists of 6 species only: Telmatogeton goughi sp. n. (described as male and female), Limnophyes minimus (Meigen), Smittia sp. (described as female), Thalassosmittia christinae sp. n. (described as female), Clunio jonesi sp. n. (described as male) and Allocladius lusciniolus Sæther et Andersen (described as female). Except for the marine T. goughi and C. jonesi the other species are parthenogenetic. Limnophyes minimus and A. lusciniolus dominate the chironomid fauna. Telmatogeton goughi is close to T. sanctipauli (Schiner). Thalassosmittia christinae differs from T. thalassophila (Bequaert et Goetghebuer) by having hairy eyes and antenna with subapical seta. Clunio jonesi differs from C. africanus and C. gerlachi by having ultimate flagellomere as long as the 4 preceding segments and gonostylus with only 1–2 apical spines. Allocladius lusciniolus differs from other known females of the genus by having 1–5 setae apically on M 1+2 .

AbstractAlbatrosses and other seabirds are generally highly philopatric, returning to natal colonies when they achieve breeding age. This is not universal, however, and cases of extraordinary vagrancy are rare. The Tristan Albatross (Diomedea dabbenena) breeds on Gough Island in the South Atlantic Ocean, with a small population on Inaccessible Island, Tristan da Cunha, ca 380 km away. In 2015, we observed an adult male albatross in Gonydale, Gough Island, which had been ringed on Ile de la Possession, Crozet Islands in 2009 when it was assumed to be an immature Wandering Albatross (D. exulans). We sequenced 1109 bp of the cytochrome b mitochondrial gene from this bird, and confirmed it to be a Tristan Albatross, meaning its presence on Crozet 6 years previous, and nearly 5000 km away, was a case of prospecting behaviour in a heterospecific colony. Given the challenges in identifying immature Diomedea albatrosses, such dispersal events may be more common than thought previously.

<p>The original material of <em>Isopterygium tristaniense </em>Dixon, an endemic species of the Tristan da Cunha archipelago in the central South Atlantic Ocean, is taxonomically evaluated and some details of its morphology are illustrated. The species is found to be conspecific with the Holarctic <em>Pseudotaxiphyllum elegans </em>(Brid.) Z.Iwats. and it is the third record of the species in the Southern Hemisphere. The global distribution of this species is reviewed and the distribution patterns of the South Atlantic mosses are briefly discussed.</p>

The present report provides the first account of the shallow water hydroids of St. Helena, which comprises 17 species, and adds nine new records to the hydrozoan fauna of the Tristan da Cunha group of islands, raising their number to 34. A total of 34 species, belonging to five families of Anthoathecata and eight families of Thecata, are discussed herein. Although distributional data are given for each species, brief diagnoses are provided for the lesser known or unidentifiable species, and the common taxa are occasionally accompanied by succinct remarks. Illustrations are provided for nearly all species in order to justify their identification and to facilitate identification by others.Fiordlandia protectaandFilellum bouvetensis,both from Gough Island, represent the second world records and extend their known area of distribution.

Material collected by the Norwegian Scientific Expedition to Tristan Da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean in the years 1937–1938 and later attributed by Stephensen, 1949 to Orchestia scutigerula Dana, 1852 has been re-examined and is described as a new genus and species, Gondwanorchestia tristanensis sp. nov. Orchestia scutigerula Dana, 1852 is transferred to Gondwanorchestia gen nov. and compared with G. tristanensis sp. nov.
