Medieval urban registers constitute a historical source of great importance, particularly since they have survived comparatively often. This article provides a schedule of the surviving Prussia urban registers, structured according to the categories employed by the Index Librorum Civitatum, a continuing project of the University of Halle. Listing both the urban registers already published and those yet unpublished is intended to illustrate the problems involved in producing a modern edition and to suggest possible solutions. In view of how multifarious the Prussian registers can be, it makes good sense to schedule them separately, while structuring the list to concord with the categories employed by the researchers in Halle. Indeed, it would be sensible to flank the calender with scans or digital photographs. However, decisions on the editorial standards to be employed – indeed, the fundamental decision to publish the entire text or merely calender the entries – must be made on a case-by-case basis. Particularly in those cases in which urban registers comprehend a wide variety of entries, individual solutions will have to be found in order to allow scholars to access the various categories of material readily and directly. Publication in the form of pdf files or simple digital editions makes good sense, even if collecting all materials in one central data bank would be ideal. Editions of the resolutions of quasi-legislative bodies should be structured according to the

✓ A total of 40 severely head-injured patients were selected from the Traumatic Coma Data Bank, supported by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, to analyze the recovery of verbal learning across baseline and 6- and 12-month evaluations postinjury. During the initial 6 months, the group demonstrated marked recovery, followed by an absence of improvement over the latter part of the year. Analysis of this recovery curve on a case by case basis revealed three recovery subtypes: namely, a flat curve, a peak-drop curve, or an improvement curve. These three subtypes proved to have concurrent validity when compared with another memory test. Adding 19 new patients to the sample cross-validated the subtypes. However, the memory performance of the 59 patients was dissociated from other neuropsychological tests which showed recovery at more equivalent rates across the subtypes. Analysis of the demographic and neurological characteristics disclosed that the group with a peak-drop recovery curve was less well educated and the group with a flat curve demonstrated a trend toward higher levels of hypoxia. Moreover, the three subgroups were rated by their relatives to have equivalent levels of depression at baseline and at 6 months, but only the improved subgroup demonstrated reduced depression at 1 year. The clinical relevancy of these differential recovery curves is discussed.

This study aims to analyze the enteroparasitic occurrence in children from 0 to 12 years old consulted at the University of western São Paulo Clinical Laboratory, Presidente Prudente, SP, Brazil, in relation to the socioeconomic profile of the attended children. Stool samples were examined and a questionnaire was applied with the objective of knowing the patient's age, sex, medical attendance, characteristic of the habitation, provisioning of water, dejection and domestic waste fates, use of footwear and clinical signs. The software EPI INFO 6 (Version 6.04b) was used for the elaboration of the data bank structure and analysis after previous data codification. Among 1,000 children analyzed, as many as 21.3% presented some kind of parasite. The most frequent protozoan was Giardia lamblia (7.3%) followed by Entamoeba coli (3.9%). The most frequent helminth was Enterobius vermicularis (1.9%) followed by Hymenolepis nana (0.5%). The most frequent protozoan association was Giardia lamblia / Entamoeba coli (0.9%).

Dr James Hutton was the son of Mr William Hutton, merchant in Edinburgh, and was born in that city on the 3d of June 1726. His father, a man highly respected for his good sense and integrity, and who for some years held the office of City Treasurer, died while James was very young. The care of her son's education devolved of course on Mrs Hutton, who appears to have been well qualified for discharging this double portion of parental duty. She resolved to bestow on him a liberal education, and sent him first to the High School of Edinburgh, and afterwards to the University, where he entered as a student of humanity in November, 1740.

AbstractSince 1961 the Laboratory for statistical analysis of ancient languages (LASLA) at the University of Liège has recorded a high number of ancient Latin texts in a computer format. For each of the approximately 1,800,000 words of the corpus lexicological, morphological and syntactical information has been entered. The complete data bank is now accessible through the Internet: an inquiry software package makes it possible for any researcher to look up all occurrences of a specific language feature either in the whole corpus or in the works of a given writer. Research can be done either on a lexis item, or on a type of subordination, or again on the basis of morphological features. The system, which still has to be further developed, is available for anyone who files a request.

Paul Matthews died on 26 February 1987, following an accident while cycling in Cambridge. He was one of the most influential figures in the post-war revival of British theoretical physics and played a very significant role in the wider university community— in particular, as head of the Physics Department of Imperial College, chairman of the SRC Nuclear Physics Board and vice-chancellor of the University of Bath. Though retired, he was still extremely active both in research and on various public committees, most notably as chairman of the Government’s Radioactive Waste Management Advisory Committee. He was a man of transparent integrity and exceptional good sense.

This article is a basic quantitative analysis of widowhood and remarriage trends among several Plain churches. When compared to past studies of similar topics, a remarkable consistency of findings across both time and sect can be identified. Bereaved Plain spouses have largely experienced widowhood along separate gender-specific paths, in data sets ranging from 1730 to 2019 and from relatively liberal to traditional communities. Positing that much of Amish and Amish Mennonite society is designed to socialize and retain children, this article offers opportunities for deeper study of the parental roles undergirding that society. The primary research suggestions include spousal function in the context of family life, the various factors influencing the health of bereaved spouses, and the "marriage squeeze" present in many churches. The central data sets used in this study were collected from the 2019 edition of the Amish Mennonite Directory and the 2015 Church Directory of the Lancaster County Amish and Outlying Daughter Settlements. These reference books were sampled on a one-in-five and one-in-three basis, respectively. The resultant widowhood cases were contextualized by widowhood cases from studies by Elmer Lewis Smith and researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Storage of soils information in a computerized filing system provides an organized collection of available data in a central data bank, and a fast efficient system for retrieval of data. However, storage in a form compatible with the computer requires soil properties to be recorded predominantly in numerical form. The nature of the data divides soil properties into four categories and each of these data types requires different coding techniques. Continuously varying properties are recorded without modification but code numbers are assigned to dichotomous, multistate unranked, and multistate ranked properties. Although coding of most of these descriptive characteristics follows guidelines established by the Canada Soil Survey Committee (1970), coding schemes for some properties are devised and documented. The data are recorded on three distinct card types: the "Soils Series" card, the "Physical" card, and the "Analytical" card. Standardization of the coding procedures does not imply or necessitate absolute and rigid conformity to a single format scheme. Provided some uniformity exists, data collected by various agencies can be combined and computer analysis of soil properties for a wider range of soils is possible.

Animadversiones, Notae ac Disputationes in Pestilentem Alcoranum is a unique document housed in the University of Genoa library and consisting of the entire text of the Qur’ān in Arabic, a Latin translation of same, and extensive commentaries and marginalia in Latin, with a few short passages in Arabic and Hebrew. The document is dated 1622 and has heretofore received little attention from scholars. Although Animadversiones had none of the impact of other early Latin translations of the Qur’ān, this text is of considerable value as an example of how early Western Christian scholars of the Qur’ān grappled with lexical, syntactical and exegetical problems. This article examines a series of lexical choices made by Lomellini and touches on some of his exegetical discourses, his intended audiences, and possible sources and informants. Special attention is given to the tension between Lomellini’s mission to propagate the Catholic faith and his desire to produce a translation faithful to the meaning of the original.

The aim of the study is to assess the regional differentiation of housing conditions of the population living in rural areas and their changes in Poland between 2004 and 2016. Research was conducted on the basis of secondary data from the Central Data Bank of the CSO. Due to the complex nature of the studied phenomenon, the Ward method was used to identify typological classes of the housing condition level of the population in rural areas in a system of voivodships. A total of two typological classifications of voivodships were performed – the first in view of the level of housing conditions of the population living in rural areas in 2016, and the second in view of the level of changes in the housing conditions of the surveyed population that occurred in 2016, in relation to 2004. As a result of the research, it was found that in 2016, rural areas in the Dolnośląskie, Śląskie, Opolskie and Zachodniopomorskie voivodships were characterized by the highest level of housing conditions of the population. The lowest level of housing conditions of the population living in rural areas was observed in the Podlaskie voivodship. Dynamic, favourable changes were observed in the housing conditions of the population living in rural areas in the conditions of European integration, both in terms of accessibility and quality of housing resources. The highest increase in the percentage of dwellings equipped with central heating and network gas was observed in rural areas in the following voivodships: Dolnośląskie, Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie and Zachodniopomorskie. On the other hand, the largest increase in the percentage of dwellings equipped with a toilet and network water supply occurred in rural areas in the Lubelskie, Łódzkie, Mazowieckie, Podlaskie and Świętokrzyskie voivodships.
