The construction industry plays a significant role in national development and economic growth of Indonesia. Contractors are key actors in the construction industry and manage large amounts of construction resources and activities. While the demand for improving the nation's infrastructure is on the rise, the question remains whether the industry, especially contractors, will be able to fulfil this demand. This study investigates whether contractors include technological capabilities as an important part of their company strategies for addressing the dynamics of the construction industry. In particular, it aims to understand how contractors develop and improve their technological capabilities through a technological learning process (exploration, acquisition and internalisation). The investigation focuses on medium-sized contractors, who often play an important role as part of the supply chain for larger contractors. A model is developed to represent the dynamic interactions between key factors that influence the way contractors select and use technology to enhance their performance. Data were collected through a survey and were then used to map the contractors' development of technological capabilities. The study reveals that medium-sized contractors have yet to consider the development of technological capabilities as strategic. The results are expected to benefit the regulator and construction companies in Indonesia in their efforts to improve the performance of the country's construction industry.

Purpose – Public-private partnership (PPP) is mutually beneficial relationships that are formed between the public and private sectors. The private-sector partner typically makes a substantial equity investment, and in return the public sector gains access to new or improved services. When properly vetted and structured, PPP allocate risk to the party best suited to handle it. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between the scale and nature of the PPP's contribution as a driver of the economic growth and gross domestic product (GDP). Design/methodology/approach – Using statistics causality modeling and relevant statistical techniques, the dynamic interactions and interdependencies over PPP and economic growth were addressed and quantified. Findings – Although PPP can free up government resources for other public priorities, three key factors enable PPP to stimulate a country's economic growth: the number of PPP projects under way, the value of PPP projects, and the ideal type of PPP contracts in use. Originality/value – The number, value, and type of PPP, combined with supportive policies, power economic growth. Governments with well-established and enforced policies against corruption, combined with low business transaction costs, a transparent legislative system, and exchange rate and monetary stability are far more attractive to the private sector.

Nowadays, almost none of the fields of human activity can do without supply chain management. In addition, implementation of one in construction companies contributes to major economic benefits. The article considers the application feasibility of blockchain in logistics of construction materials through the usage of RFID technology. An example of introduction to the process of manufacturing and delivery of ready-mixed concrete is given. The main advantages, shortcomings, perspectives, as well as difficulties arising in the implementation of blockchain technology in the construction industry are described. Special attention is paid to the applicability of these technologies.


Greening the supply chain practices is essential to all the sectors. Currently the management looking after the construction activities is also highly focusing on this. It is also coined as sustainable supply chain management. The sustainability is an important factor in construction industry rather than any other industries. The present research paper aimed at identifying and creating awareness of green supply chain management in materials and practices implied in Indian construction Industry. Many of the construction companies are not following sustainable practices in their day-to-day activities. There is a lot of scope to implement the sustainable practices, further helps in reducing the carbon emissions in the supply chain and helps to provide the recycling of the materials and thus reduces the wastage. This improves the construction industry economy and environment. The current research aimed at analyzing the strategies related to green supply chain management practices for construction Industry.

In recent years, mounting environmental and sustainability concerns are driving the construction industry players to adopt green supply chain management (GSCM) in their organizations. GSCM is a converging sustainability approach that integrates environmental thinking and initiatives into the traditional supply chain management (SCM) practices. However, despite having various benefits, this approach has not been widely implemented. Therefore, this paper aims to reveal the challenges faced by Malaysian construction companies in implementing GSCM. A total of 160 questionnaires were distributed among contractors and consultants in Malaysian Construction Companies. Only 50 questionnaires completed by the respondents resulting in a response rate of 32%. The research found that leadership and commitment from top management as the main challenges among construction players in implementing GSCM, in addition to changing mindset and culture and government support and regulation. This finding will allow practitioners to acknowledge and prioritize the challenges embedded with GSCM implementation, thus come out with strategies to overcome the challenges. This research can be further enriched by including an in-depth study on the GSCM challenges through qualitative research.

The construction industry is so fragmented that in its implementation many have resulted in increased costs, delays, and inefficiencies. But this fragmented can not be a reason not to innovate. One approach to the solution used is supply chain construction. The purpose of this study is to map supply chains micro, meso, and macro. This level is tiered from the bottom to the top level as the concept of supply chain management. The qualitative and quantitative research method was used to map and analyze supply chains for each level. The results showed the micro-level is the basis of the supply chain which can be measured by SCOR for example. The meso level focuses on the strength of construction companies. Construction company strategies framework contract and Enterprises Resource Planning (ERP). Macro-level includes supply chain accumulation from micro and meso. It is expected that at the macro level is the harmonization of supply chains between stakeholders, namely the government, contractors, suppliers, and distributors with good policy regulations.

Evidence points to the fact that frequent resignation of project engineers from construction companies is primarily the result of dissatisfaction with the factors that shape the salary scale. This research aims to identify the major influencing factors in merit based salary calculation systems for knowledge-oriented engineers so as to more accurately reflect their contribution to construction projects. Results from a questionnaire sent to managers, engineers and HR professionals throughout the Iranian construction industry revealed that while there was overall agreement on principles to a merit-based approach, engineers in particular identified ‘professional skills’, ‘experience’ and ‘creativity’. Management-oriented parties should take into account engineer perspectives in order to more accurately value the knowledge-oriented contribution of these workers to construction projects. This research provides a basis for understanding the key factors in the merit based salary scale formulation through the construction industry.

This study concluded that the problems of economic growth are determined by a number of factors, the main of which are – economic, industrial, technological, institutional, non-economic. The article focuses on the analysis of institutional factors which regulate companies’ activities by reducing the impact of administrative barriers. This article identifies the role of economic efficiency and its influence on the economic growth of the construction industry businesses. This article offers a method of profit calculation by the reduction of transaction costs. This method is adapted to the construction sector, which features a number of independent and related fields, a large number of participants of the construction process and institutions that altogether lead to the occurrence of administrative barriers. The calculations that were done confirm that the reduction of transaction costs affects the efficiency of construction companies. The resulting extra profit, from reducing the transaction costs, is a source of economic growth for companies in the construction industry.

Effective and efficient management of suppliers within a supply chainis an essential requirement for improving organisational performance within construction companies. However, factors inherent within the supply chain of supplier-buyer exchanges such as culture, politics, dependence and trust may influence supplier relationship quality (SRQ). This research therefore seeks to identify the influence that these factors have upon SRQ in the Ghanaian construction industry and develop a conceptual framework that explains the interconnectivity between them. A literature review isused to develop a conceptual framework of the antecedents influencing supplier relationship quality. Primary ‘perception’ data obtained from 152 building material suppliers is used to test the proposed model using Partial Least Squares (PLS). Findings reveal that culture, politics, dependence and trust have a significant influence on relationship quality in supply chain collaborations amongst purchasers and suppliers of building materials. While politics has a strong influence on dependence, it also generates a negative influence on SRQ and trust. The research confirms the positive effect of trust and dependence in SRQ management and extends understanding of the influence of culture and politics. Practical implications suggest that managers of building material suppliers should focus upon building trust and dependence and be discouraged from over-reliance upon politics and political affiliations as a basis for long-term relationship building
