Oracle bone script recognition (OBSR) has been a fundamental problem in research on oracle bone scripts for decades. Despite being intensively studied, existing OBSR methods are still subject to limitations regarding recognition accuracy, speed and robustness. Furthermore, the dependency of these methods on expert knowledge hinders the adoption of OBSR systems by the general public and also discourages social outreach of research outputs. Addressing these issues, this study proposes an encoding-based OBSR system that applies image pre-processing techniques to encode oracle images into small matrices and recognize oracle characters in the encoding space. We tested our methods on a collection of oracle bones from the Yin Ruins in XiaoTun village, and achieved a high accuracy rate of 99% within a time range of milliseconds.

The Kemtek 1000 Sample Processor has been evaluated for precision, accuracy, speed and reliability. Precision was better than 1.0% at all volumes tested and accuracy within ±5%. A l00-tube assay could be set up within 15 min when patient specimens plus two reagents were sampled using a two probe system. Carry-over could be reduced to <0.01% by using a sufficient number of wash steps, the latter being related to the assay requirements. Evidence was found for adsorption of protein to the probe tubing but inaccuracies due to this could be reduced by introducing wash steps between samples. Problems over 12 months have been minor and quickly resolved. The authors were pleased with the way the processor performed and their staffhave confidence in leaving it to set up their assays.

This paper investigates, in the case of the euro area, the standard assumption that the liquidity trap steady state, which arises from the existence of the zero lower bound on the nominal interest rate, is locally unstable. We show that the policy function of the European Central Bank (ECB) is described by a nonlinear Taylor rule. Then, using our estimations, we show that around the liquidity trap steady state the equilibrium is locally determinate for most plausible parameter values. Finally, we find that an inflation shock is more efficient than a demand shock to escape the liquidity trap steady state.

The proficiency with which pilots can make takeoffs and landings using a periscope as the only source of outside visibility was studied under various conditions of flight. A detailed determination was made of the effects of variations in image magnification upon landing accuracy. Speed of transition to flight by periscope was related to flight experience. Effects of various weather, runway surface, and ambient lighting conditions upon flight by periscope were investigated.

This study investigated the relationship between Type A behavior and job performance using three measures of Type A behavior (Milwaukee Scale, A-B Scale, and Type A Measure) and 14 job performance subscales obtained from each participant's record. A total of 103 Kuwaiti employees, 66 men and 37 women, participated voluntarily. Some job performance scales as well as the over-all performance scores were not significantly related to any of the measures of Type A behavior used. These scales were Initiative, Dealing with Others, General Appearance, Accuracy, Speed, Adherence to Rules, Relationship with Colleagues, Adherence to Attendance Time, and Over-all Performance. Following Supervisors' Orders is the only scale for which scores correlated .25, and .26, respectively ( p = .05) with two of the Type A measures. Inconsistency with previous findings may be attributed to treating Type A behavior as a global construct rather than separating out its components and to job-related factors that might moderate the possible relationship as well as the variations in the tests' reliabilities and lengths.

In the last decades, researchers and scientists have been trending towards photovoltaic (PV) solar energy research as one of the noteworthy renewable energies. As a matter of fact, the need for a laboratory system devoted to performing measurements and experimentation on PV systems is being increased. The PV array emulator is designed to accomplish this task by reproducing accurately the electrical behavior of real PV sources. The present paper proposes thus a new control and design of PV array emulators. It is based essentially on a hybrid Damping Injection controller. The proposed control strategy circumvents obviously the existing PV emulator's limitations in terms of accuracy, speed and partial shading emulation. Several results are given and discussed to show the efficiency of the proposed system to emulate PV modules and different PV array configurations under uniform solar irradiance and partial shading conditions.

This paper compares two approaches to determining road markings from video sequences, namely, the method of finding the markings using geometrized histograms and the method based on neural networks. An independent open dataset TuSimple is used to conduct a comparative analysis of the algorithms. Since the investigated methods have different architectures, their work is evaluated according to the following metrics: Accuracy, speed (relative FPS), general computational complexity of the algorithm (TFlops).

Background: Bearing has been widely used in automotive, aerospace, electronics industry, and other fields.Its pre-tightening technology is one of the most critical technologies. It has an important influence on the accuracy, speed, stiffness, and temperature rise of the spindle. Proper pre-tightening force can eliminate bearing clearance and improve machining accuracy and efficiency of machine tools. Therefore, the development trend of bearing pre-tightening mechanism has been paid more and more attention. Objective: In order to improve the processing efficiency and processing accuracy of the bearing system, the structure and function of the bearing pre-tensioning device are continuously enhanced. Methods: This paper retraces various current representative patents relative to the mechanism of bearing pre-tightening. Results: Through the investigation of several patents of bearing pre-tightening devices, the principles and effects of different bearing pre-tightening devices are classified and reviewed. Besides, the future development trend of bearing pre-tightening devices is discussed. Conclusion: The optimization of the bearing pre-tightening device is conducive to improving processing efficiency and quality. A controllable pre-tightening force is the research direction, and more related patents will be invented in the future.
