PurposeThis paper discusses how the features of blockchain technology impact supply chain transparency through the lens of the information security triad (confidentiality, integrity and availability). Ultimately, propositions are developed to encourage future research in supply chain applications of blockchain technology.Design/methodology/approachPropositions are developed based on a synthesis of the information security and supply chain transparency literature. Findings from text mining of Twitter data and a discussion of three major blockchain use cases support the development of the propositions.FindingsThe authors note that confidentiality limits supply chain transparency, which causes tension between transparency and security. Integrity and availability promote supply chain transparency. Blockchain features can preserve security and increase transparency at the same time, despite the tension between confidentiality and transparency.Research limitations/implicationsThe research was conducted at a time when most blockchain applications were still in pilot stages. The propositions developed should therefore be revisited as blockchain applications become more widely adopted and mature.Originality/valueThis study is among the first to examine the way blockchain technology eases the tension between supply chain transparency and security. Unlike other studies that have suggested only positive impacts of blockchain technology on transparency, this study demonstrates that blockchain features can influence transparency both positively and negatively.

The article reveals the content and outlines approaches to the definition of the legal nature of mining. Attention is drawn to the necessity of legal regulation of this activity, which is predetermined by the Federal Program «Digital Economy of the Russian Federation» — a project that provides for normative regulation of the digital environment. In order to support the mission to eliminate digital illiteracy, which is also envisaged in the National Program, the author elucidates the etymology and meaning of the term «mining» and considers various doctrinal interpretations of this concept. The paper presents such analogies of the blochchain technology as the public ledger, DNA, and a layer-cake for a better understanding of the blockchain technology that is associated with mining. Material-technical and organizational foundations of mining are revealed. The author demonstrates advantages and disadvantages of solo mining, pool mining, and cloud mining. The results of comparative monitoring of the attitude to the recognition of cryptocurrency as a means of payment are presented. Attention is drawn to the liberal legal regulation of blockchain technology and mining under the laws of the Republic of Belarus. The paper determines the stages of a law-making process aimed at legal support of mining in Russia. Based on the results of comparison of concepts of entrepreneurial activity and mining, it is concluded that mining represents one of new types of entrepreneurship brought to life due to the needs of digital economy. The author suggests thatmining participants be recognized as self-employed persons. It is noted that the entrepreneurial nature of mining arises questions concerning measures of its state regulation which is difficult within the framework of the existing paradigm, but should be built on the basis of a balance between private and public interests.

Mapping the characteristics and extent of environmental conflicts related to land use is important for developing regionally specific policies. However, because it is only possible to verify the frequency of conflicts on a specific predetermined subject, it is difficult to determine the various reasons for conflicts in a region. Therefore, this study mapped the current status of regional environmental conflicts in South Korea using a spatial text mining technique, then proposed relevant management policies. The results were obtained by analyzing environmental conflict data extracted from the online agendas of regional environmental organizations. Air quality-related conflicts in South Korea are concentrated in western municipalities; development-related conflicts are concentrated in the southern region of Jeju Island; and intensive safety-related conflicts occur in metropolitan areas, particularly Ulsan. Thus, the type of conflict is determined by the local environment, in accordance with the definition of environmental conflict, and the distribution is determined by the location of the stakeholder population. This study reveals the issues and locations related to local environmental conflict that require further attention, and proposes more wide-ranging methods for managing the links between conflicts by mapping environmental conflicts on a large scale rather than on an individual basis.

The relevance of the study of application of blockchain in tax relations is due to the need to assess the tax consequences of transactions using digital financial assets, as well as emergence of new directions for improving tax control based on blockchain technology. The purpose of the study is to analyze the provisions of Russian and foreign tax legislation, as well as doctrinal sources on improving legal regulation of tax relations in regard to blockchain technology. The study shows efficacy of the blockchain analysis for the purposes of tax and legal regulation carried out by developing concepts related to applying such technological solution as a tool in conducting cryptocurrency transactions. The theoretical significance of the study lies in the authors definition of the concept of blockchain technology for tax purposes, as well as in proving the value of legal regulation of tax relations applying blockchain. The practical implication is connected with voicing the need to develop legal regulation of applying blockchain technology when creating a system of transactional (automatic) taxation and levying the so-called smart taxes while fulfilling tax obligations in the context of introducing a goods traceability mechanism. This will also contribute to minimizing tax reporting. The research methodology are general and private scientific methods of knowledge: formal-legal, analysis, comparative-legal, and forecasting and modeling. The last two are often applied in tax law in light of digitalization and globalization.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a state-of-the-art review of research on consumers experiencing vulnerability to describe the current situation of the consumers experiencing vulnerability literature and develop an up-to-date synthesised definition of consumers experiencing vulnerability. Design/methodology/approach This systematic review, guided by the PRISMA framework, takes a multi-disciplinary approach to identify 310 articles published between 2010 and 2019 examining consumers experiencing vulnerability. Descriptive analysis of the data is undertaken in combination with a thematic and text mining approach using Leximancer software. Findings A definition of consumers experiencing vulnerability is developed- “unique and subjective experiences where characteristics such as states, conditions and/or external factors lead to a consumer experiencing a sense of powerlessness in consumption settings”. The findings reveal consumers experiencing vulnerability have often been classified using a uni-dimensional approach (opposed to a multi-dimensional), focussing on one factor of vulnerability, the most prevalent of these being economic and age factors. A lack of research has examined consumers experiencing vulnerability based upon geographical remoteness, gender and sexual exploitation. Originality/value This paper is one of the first to examine consumers experiencing vulnerability using a systematic approach and text mining analysis to synthesise a large set of articles, which subsequently reduces the potential for researchers’ interpretative bias. Further, it is the first to generate a data-driven definition of consumers experiencing vulnerability. It provides targeted recommendations to allow further scholarly, policy and practical contributions to this area.

The past decade has highlighted the increasing role of virtual electronic digital currency in the financial sphere. This currency is now performing the functions of investment, storage and accumulation rather than solely the function of measuring the value of goods and services. Thus, the virtual digital currency has come to implement all basic functions of paper money. The purpose of the paperwas to put forward the thesis of the feasibility of introduction in Russia of a new virtual national digital currency operating on the basis of the blockchain technology, which will significantly revitalize the domestic economy. The paper provides the definition of the virtual digital currency and its types, discusses its advantages and disadvantages, gives a brief overview of the experience of using this currency in Russia and abroad, shows the current state of cost capitalization of the virtual digital currency and describes the legal framework for the virtual digital currency application. The paperconcludesthat rather than forbidding the crypto currency, there are all the reasons to arrange the issue and circulation of an officially accepted type of a virtual national digital currency that would give a powerful impetus to the development of all spheres of the country’s economy. Special attention is paid to the mechanism of the national digital currency operation with the government participation. Every citizen will be able to get a salary in a few seconds, buy everything he wants, invest in any project. Records of transactions in the user’s personal digital electronic purse will completely relieve him of paperwork. It is important to note that blockchain protocols do not allow transaction canceling or compulsory change of ledger entries. This means that all transactions will become safe and anonymous, and anonymity cannot be violated if only by illegal operations. This will suit all law-abiding citizens of the country. The advantages of the national digital currency will ensure its wide circulation in the country and lead to significant shrinking of the “gray” and “dark” cryptocurrency markets and revival of the domestic economy.

Introduction. The disagreements in terminology and definition of key concepts of logistics and logistics of the hotel and restaurant business have become a significant barrier to a clear understanding of these economic categories. This fact complicates the interaction of individual subjects of economic relations in the field of logistics. The problem of specification, systematization and standardization of the conceptual apparatus of logistics is now recognized as an actual one by the majority of theorists and practitioners who work in this field. Purpose. The article aims to explore the main approaches to defining the concepts of "logistics" and "logistics of hotel and restaurant business"; to perform frequency analysis of keywords on the basis of statistical analysis of textual information Text Mining; to specify significant predicates of definitions of logistics and logistics of hotel and restaurant business. Methods. Investigation of frequency of predictors of logistics determination has been carried out on a random sample with the help of statistical analysis of textual information Text Mining. The logic and analytical research method and system and structural research method have been used in the process of processing and systematization of the data. Results. Text Mining has made it possible to detect the following high-frequency predictors of logistics definition: "flow", "management", "material", "information", "science", "product" and "consumer". The special focus of the flow processes, in particular the flow of customers, is the specifics of hotel and restaurant business logistics. It means that the consumer moves towards the manufacturer, and not vice versa. The authors consider it expedient to add the following predicators to the definition of the hotel and restaurant business logistics: "the direction of the flow processes", "services", "production", "flow of customers", "section / direction". Conclusions. The article has systematized the main structural elements of the definition of logistics. Significant predicators of the definitions of "logistics" and "hotel and restaurant business logistics" have been revealed. It is established that the formation of definitions of these concepts using the statistical processing of the frequency of keywords caused the results that reflect the essence of these concepts in a proper way. These results can perfectly correlate with the methodology of the formation of scientific concepts.
