A nationwide lockdown was initiated to prevent the worsening of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. This study aims to understand the impact of the lockdown on the well-being of Indians, mainly focusing on their life satisfaction and job satisfaction. Though, before the lockdown, family income was not related to life satisfaction, during the lockdown, it was found that higher income families experienced higher levels of life satisfaction. One’s opinion on the beneficiality of the lockdown too was related to their level of income. Decline in both, job satisfaction and life satisfaction was seen. Gender, marital status and companions during the lockdown were significantly related to life satisfaction. Those who were married were more satisfied during the lockdown. Job satisfaction was irrespective of one’s gender, marital status and educational qualification. An attempt has been made to understand the embracement of work from home culture by Indians. The study also tries to answer if the time one spends on oneself and on social media impact their well-being. A lot of changes were seen in the lifestyle and state of mind of people. With change in working conditions and income for a majority of people, there was uncertainty as to when things would normalize. The importance of companionship during these hard times was also revealed. Like every coin has two sides, this too has its positive side. People have inculcated habits that have improved their lifestyle. A lot of people have also found this as an opportunity to work on their relationships.

The ongoing spread of COVID-19 has become one of the biggest threats to the global economy and financial markets. To contain the impact of coronavirus outbreak, India, just like many countries across the globe, is taking several measures; including a nationwide lockdown, limiting movement of the entire population, shutting down public places and transports, urging the public to stay indoors, maintaining social distancing and developing work from home culture. During the period of lockdown, usage of digital wallets has increased. The digital wallet is a leading concept in India that has been beating credit card handling and is gradually beginning to swap the old traditional payment methods. The Digital wallets are virtual wallets; where one can easily store cash for making offline and online payments. Digital wallet app growth point outs the increasing need for efficient payment methods. These offer a much more secure and faster way for engaging transactions. The start- ups and large corporate businesses are also continuously on the lookout for customer-friendly technologies, thereby giving more value and convenience to the customers; especially during COVID-19 era, to retain old and attract new customers. This study was carried out to find out the factors, which affect consumer preference and frequency of usage towards digital wallets. Using a structured questionnaire with the help of ‘Google form’, the primary data was collected from a sample of 115 respondents. ANOVA and frequency analysis were used to find out the factors that affect the consumer preference and impact of various factors on consumer preference towards digital wallets were also analyzed.

COVID 19 pandemic has taken over the world by surprise, affecting around 4 million of the world population. This unprecedented crisis of the 21st century has led to many world nations having to declare a nation-wide lockdown and prohibit all economical and commercial activities in designated spaces. Most of the corporates, in the wake of this challenge, announced work from home for their staff. This study aims to analyze the impact of work from home on employees during the COVID 19 lockdown. Building on the existing scenario of work from home, the study explores the physical, social, psychological, and financial effects of work from home among the employees. In this context, employees are defined as any person, employed in the private sector and public sector, who are currently undergoing work from home. Based on the review of literature on studies related to work from home and pandemic lockdowns, an online questionnaire was distributed to respondents across India. They were asked a set of questions, which clearly intends to collect enough information to frame a logical research output. 165 working professionals participated in the study. Analysis of the responses indicated that work from home has been associated with increased stress and lethargy, in comparison with work from the office. The results demonstrate that work from home does have a detrimental impact on the employees. On this basis, it is recommended that organizations should develop and implement a work from home policy, with positive considerations to employee wellbeing and motivation. Further research is also suggested, to identify other factors which could contribute to developing an efficient and effective work from home culture.

The rapid and progressing Covid-19 pandemic is building an upsurge of fear, anxiety and stress globally. Repeated episodes of lock down, physical distancing norms, work from home culture in the new normal scenario, travel restrictions, school shutdown, home isolation and quarantine, bed and oxygen crisis, prolonged hospitalization, post Covid morbidities and deaths, Covid orphans, loss of job, lack of recreation, loneliness and the others cumulatively are contributing to tremendous stress on individual mental health. Though by definition ‘Health’ includes “mental wellbeing” apart from physical and social wellbeing but the mental health issues have largely been pushed into backstage in this current pandemic conundrum.

Although beer had a profound cultural, economic and religious significance among traditional societies in central Africa, teetotalism – in other words, abstinence from alcohol – has become widespread in Malawian Protestantism (as elsewhere in African Christianity), and in many churches it is regarded as a mark of true faith. This article examines the origins of the antipathy to alcohol in the Presbyterian missionaries who evangelised Malawi in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, who drew a parallel between the ‘problem of drink’ among the working poor in their home culture and central Africans, to urge sobriety and its concomitant values of thrift and hard work among their converts. Yet research shows that it was new Christians in Malawi themselves (and not the missionaries) who took the lead in making temperance or teetotalism a criterion for church membership. By drawing upon the experiences of other socially and politically marginalised groups in the British Empire at this time, it is suggested that these new Christians were likely motivated to adopt temperance/teetotalism in order to assert to foreign missionaries their ability to lead and control their own churches and countries.
